I want MMP to sound like a revival of Stomp during the playoffs next year.

Why limit it to the playoffs?  I say whistles and stomping all season long.

Manfred speaks:

Major League Baseball's investigation into the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal remains underway but no other teams are currently under suspicion, commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters Wednesday.

"I have no reason to believe it extends beyond the Astros at this point in time," Manfred said at the owners meetings in Arlington, Texas, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Manfred is a coward.

Slick trick to cheat in Dodger Stadium.

You know Blummer was sitting in the outfield.  He could have been the one stealing signs.

To me, this is all a bunch of WFW by all those losers.  I say keep doing what you are doing.  People are assuming the Astros cheated and have judged them.  They, especially Mike Fiers (who let's be honest, no one really gives a shit about), can suck it.

Talk Zone / Re: More controversy

The whole thing is stupid.  If you can't beat the Astros it must be because they are cheating.

Fiers is an ass.  He does realize that if the Astros were illegally stealing signs, he benefited from it by getting wins?

Of course they did, but being lucky in being born well does not mean they lack talent or ability. Thinking otherwise without personal knowledge is an insult.

It was a comment on their genes not their capabilities.

Reid Ryan did not have “a baseball job.” This is a corporate business position, not a baseball job. Luhnow and his staff handle baseball.

If a baseball background were required before being hired, many front offices in MLB would have to get rid of there nerds and analysts.

Y’all are just looking for something to bitch about.

You worded that well, thank you.  I've been trying to figure out why so many are "up in arms" over this.  As long as things continue to get better  - I think they did under Reid - then woohoo for us!  As long as they leave Luhnow alone I'll be happy.

I think both Reid and Jared lucked out in the sperm pool.

Doesn’t sound like The Old Man is taking it well:

Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan says in a text message he will not continue in his role as an executive advisor to the owner of the #Astros: “I will not be back with the club and will leave it at that.”

Talked to a guy I didn't know before today, a Rockies fan who recognised my Astros and asked me what happened?  I just said they blew a great opportunity for another title.  His explanation, the gnats just wanted it more...  it sounds cliche maybe, but hard to argue.

Bullshit.  The Nationals did not want to win more than the Astros.  That's a slap in the face to the Astros.  The difference was some balls ended up in gloves and some didn't.

Frito Pie doesn't guarantee a win, it's simply preparation and dedication.  It's like hitting a 2-0 line drive 110 mph with the bases loaded...it usually plates two runs, but baseball is a cruel mistress sometimes and the BBGs are fickle.  You do what you can do, not matter what.

I stopped posting in the gamezone, they seemed to win when I stopped.   Maybe I shouldn't have been reading it either.

My seats were too high up to judge HPU’s work, but he looked consistent. Only y’all watching TV can say. The replay of the 2-1 pitch to Soto shows HPU missed it, and Greinke’s reaction showed he thought so too. I am beyond bummed about Greinke’s effort being wasted, and the media’s fixation on “it should have been Cole” in the 7th angers me. Hinch made the absolute correct choice if Greinke was coming out. After Eaton grounded out in the 7th, I allowed myself to think “If he gets the next two guys, he may pitch a complete game shutout.” I did not say it to anyone, but maybe my thought alone jinxed him. Ugh.

I keep thinking (against my rational mind) this result was pre-ordained. Certainly was at least bad luck at the worst time.

Our thoughts.

I know why Hinch did what he did, but I really wanted Greinke to stay in.

Cortisone shots basically shut off your immune system, which eliminates all the swelling/inflammation. I got one when I had a severe cold last year. I was up 24 hours straight and felt like a god.

The catch is...it shuts off your immune system. What could possibly go wrong?

I think Amy and Kate get along really well also.

I'm like Jim, you never know.  Cole may be willing to give Houston a ride.  it maybe an expensive ride, but knowing it would be three aces (and yes, I still consider Greinke an Ace-he hasn't lost a WS game) for at least two more years would be something really strong to consider.

So I guess I’ll ask the question.

Do the Astros dump Osuna, either via trade or outright release, in the off-season in an effort to try and right this ship in the face of all that has gone on?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Personally, IMO, no.  That is my answer to this date.  They decided to give him a second chance.  If he screws up his second chance, then let him go.  I say, trying to make him a better man is better for society, than not.  But, giving chances are always limited.

How do you characterize Altuve's blunder - stupid, selfish? Given the game situation and the skewed risk-reward ratio, there is no justification for the steal attempt. It's not just that he forfeited the go ahead run for his team, but how many more stress pitches could the Astros have put on Strasburg? Hard to gauge how much damage he caused to his team's chance to win the game.

teams have been known to run on strasbooger.  it didn't work, but it was worth the early shot (if it had been the 9th inning, then quite questionable).  Suzuki doesn't seem like the best catcher either.

FWIW, I think Yordan's big problem is the long season. I think he's tired. People used to talk about that. Maybe it isn't true anymore.

he was rested during the season.  and if he's that tired then take him off the roster.

MLB review is a jooooooooke.

The fact that something that obvious can't be reviewed tells you all you need to know about the umpire's union.

the umpire couldn't hear it because it is so loud in MMP

Does anyone think Reddick could've brought back LeMahieu's home run? I think yes.

I thought he would have had as much of a chance as Springer.  I felt Reddick's advantage would have been his having played RF throughout the season.  But, if it had been caught then there would have been no Altuve HR.  Which to chose??  One would have been awesome and one was awesome.

i've used gametime for regular season games and was pleased, but dammmm prices are high.

145
Well, if the Astros get to the WS then they clench at home, that should be fun.

146
The Astros only used 2 pitchers compared to 4 for them.  At least that was good.

But seriously, I hope the bats get rattled on the way back to Houston.

147
I thought it was Urquidy the whole time.

148
Verlander needs to kick some ass in the dugout when they god willing goes three up three down.

149
Reddick keeps making me smile with those catches.

150
they chant MVP for LeMahew (yeah that is spelled wrong and I don't care)

151
i'm ready to end this NY trip, but I still want to leave on a win.

152
Jose Jose Jose Jose Jose

153
FS1 should filter the crowd chants when they are saying, "fuck Altuve."

154
Neither has Brantley on that breaking ball.
Neither has Brantley on that breaking ball.

then help him too.

155
T6:

Gurriel...take a pitch at his shoulders for strike one...fouls off one in the dirt...1-2...lines out to RF
Correa...full count...walks on a pitch closer than strike two
Alvarez strikes out swinging

Boone out...leaves Paxton in

Chirinos flies out F7 at the wall on the first pitch

4-1 Yankees

and it was so "close" to going out.  good grief.

156
leave him in, robbi hasn't done anything.

157
Jim, you need to help Yordan because he's not looking good at all.

158
Astros have had baserunners in every inning.

i'm trying.......

159
yordi wanted to swing at that one going away.

160
Sanchez' catching doesn't matter much if no one gets on base.

161
Stevie Wonder

no one ever remembers Ronnie Milsap.

162
time for the astros to quit messing around and score the runs.

163
Me too, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

well not with an attitude like that.

164
They're resting up for tomorrow.

i'd rather they end it today.  Don't give the other team any hope.

165
that's the way to show'em Astros.

166
third time through the order, let's get it done.

167
And one went down.  Another can't mathematically decrease any further.

I'm trying to remain positive, but they are making Paxton look like Cole.

168
So the Astros have four guys in a row tonight hitting:  .056, .176, .063, and .000.

well, that one went up a little bit.

169
If Jake can get a hit, they all should be able to get a hit.

170
Jake has the a handle on the rake, let's hope he can use it more this game.

171
and now would be a great time for Alvarez to show them why he is on the roster.

172
There's still time to score more runs than them.

173
Well he doesn't have to worry about it now.

174
Shit fire.

175
Wild pitch (should have been caught) plates a run...1-0 Astros

If not caught, at least blocked.

they like him

205
well, this will be interesging.  change of behind the plate umpire.

206
it'll be interesting if severino come out.  radio guys were saying earlier he hasn't thrown more than 83 pitches this year.

207
I hate when he ends up on his knees after swinging.  I blame that on Carlos Gomez.

208
now would be a good time for springer to get a hit.

209
I think the commentator is right.  Gardner didn't read that ball well at all.

apparently it was too high.

210
Exactly. This is not hard to figure out.

But, they will get to a third time if they are used that much in relief....

They just need to see the ball and hit the ball.  It's simple, right?

211
Also, Joe Fucking Smith

I really thought JFS meant just fucking score, now I see it for what it is.

Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

wouldn't we all.

247
I understand it.

But now he's out after seeing 1 pitch in the zone.

Over. Matched.

Post season is different than regular season.  I don't think he's earned that much time over Reddick.

At least George tied it up.

248
Pinch hitting for Jake there was a desperation move. Terrible.

I would have at least tried Reddick over Tucker.

249
Tucker swings at pitches higher than Altuve would.

250
Why is Tucker the golden child????  Seriously, I don't understand it.

251
Our pen is going to have to handle at least three innings tonight. I wish that worried me less.

it wouldn't worry you so much if our team could score runs.

252

254

266
Ordinarily I'd be optimistic about tomorrow with Verlander on the mound, but since we're in an American League park and he won't be batting, I'm not sure where the runs will come from.

JV would have bear their asses awake.

A lot. Reddick makes contact; Marisnick does not. Reddick also is an elite defender.

I'd love to see Marisnick start, but I know why he doesn't start.  Marisnick and the rest of the team know their roles.

My guess is the rotation after game 4 is subject to change for the same reasons JV pitched on short rest. This team will get a huge boost if Greinke can step up and beat the damn Yankees.

My WAG is Greinke will have a great game.  And hopefully gets a little bored during it.

272
I just finished saying a rosary and my prayer to St. Rita.  The rest is up to the men on the field.

So, I'm seeing all the day after managers saying how JV was "over confident" or too tired and should not have pitched yesterday.  I still stand by the decision.

Partly, I'm just sick of people who rarely watch the games start commenting on them now.  It's getting on my nerves today.

276
And then there were 6 outs left

277
That was a little too close.

278
The Rays stole the Astros swagger.

279
Here's what we need:

1.  1 run in the 7th - to remind ourselves what this feels like (scoring a run)
2.  2 run dong in 8th Alvarez or Yuli (get within a run)
3.  Game tying steal of home in the top of the 9th by Straw
4.  Game goes to the 15th inning and we get a walkoff from Ted

There... this is best I can make with this shit given,

you forgot to say that the Astros don't give up any more runs.

280
woo-hoo double play!!

281
7 guys hit over 30 Homers - just asking for barrel on a ball to the stands to remind our guys what is possible.

How about George?  We need to get him going.

sure, George can get it started.  Good Luck getting him to respond Sambo.  Good luck.

282
why not James back out?

283
I for one am not too optimistic about the Astros winning on Thursday either.  Today was the day.  They'd rather be somewhere else.

Cabo?

284
I think too much frito pie was consumed by us all today.

285
We need some belief.... its too predictable (pop-ups, tappers to the mound, and stupid takes).

We score in bunches --- all it takes is one and then we go from there.

which one is the one?

286
4 innings in 2 hours.  I may not stay awake the whole game.

287
JV deserved better from the Astros hitters.

288
It's fucking embarrassing how much they're sucking off the crowd of the team that had the second lowest regular season attendance this year.

BFiB?

289
Keirmaier is a good CF.  I get part of what I asked for.

I still send Altuve.  Has to be perfect play and it was.  But at least the Astros had some life.

290
Where is the MVP when needed?  Altuve and Bregman get on and Alvarez can finally hit a homerun and get out of his funk.  Did that funk start when Jim R went to Europe.  Maybe Jim needs to make sure Alvarez knows he is watching??

291
I'll give them a call.

You couldn't have done that yesterday?

292
You know, Verlander might be pitching better if his team could get some hits.  Must suck to feel as though you can't pitch without making a mistake.

And right now, I blame this offense way more than Verlander.  At least he is trying.

293
this is quite frustrating to watch.

294
These guys are hurting my feelings.  They are better than they are playing.  Baby Jesus help the Astros score some runs so they can start having fun again.  Please and amen.

295
I hope Garrett has a shutout in him Thursday.

These at bats are fucking pathetic.

what good is a shut out when your team doesn't score either?

296
At what point do the Astros start hitting this Rays bullpen?  It does not seem like they have scored many runs off of them.

297
Well, the hitters have to win this one.  Assuming the Rays wouldn't score would be stupid.

I am most interested in the overall cat-n-mouse game being played here.  So many teams are following the Astros high draft pick generating "model" that the value of the play is increasingly diluted.  I wonder how many are also following the minors development part of the model as well.  It will be fun to see what the next innovation is that they dream up to stay ahead of the pack.

I don't know that the realize how in-depth Luhnow & Company's plan is.  Those that left (Mike Fast) will have an idea, but it seems to me they think it is an easy fix.  I don't think there was anything easy about the Astros' rebuild.

You obviously missed my point. A group of you (and you know who you are) say almost nothing but negative things about the team. I'm not even sure that some of you are really Texans fans down deep. Perhaps the Tennessee Titans nee' Houston Oilers really is your team. The stark difference between the misery that we've all endured as Astros fans, I've heard very little of  comments like "the GM's an idiot. AJ's lineups and pitcher usage is horrible. etc. ad nauseum." We maintained a positive outlook during the Astros darkest days. I've heard nothing positive about the Texans. You should be grateful that it appears that you've got a QB. Cheer about that.

Ummm, I'm not a Texans fan.  But, I still think you are wrong for saying what you did.

Suit yourself. Wallow in your misery. We'll just have to read many more comments from people who never coached or played about BOB being an idiot and the club's numbnuts owner and GM. I'll take Sean Payton any day of the week.

What a horrid statement.  Wallow in your misery?  Astros fans (us in particular) wallowed in a lot of misery I guess we should have jumped on any number of other teams wagons.  I'd never seriously tell a fan to leave the one they support.  Part of supporting your team is being honest about them.

And if I remember correctly, a lot of your "nation" wore bags on their heads when Hebert was their QB.  Aren't they the originators of the bagheads??

But, I will give you the fact that Sean Payton is a good coach.

We just have to make the playoffs before we worry about that.  I think the A's were playing a bit harder than the Astros - like they had more to fight for.  I think both teams have a lot to fight for though the A's are under more pressure than the Astros, but that can change when one is lackadaisical.

I cannot abide Popeye's.  In fact, I find it particularly distasteful.  If I want fried chicken, it's Frenchy's or nothing.  On the other hand, I love CFA's chicken sammich.  And their waffle fries...I'm all about the surface area to mass ratio.

You should join Neil and I when we go to lunch there.

I do not believe for a second that Trump will not win Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.  He will win a second term easily.  It simply doesn't matter what ridiculous  or evil thing he does or how he hurts people.  People will believe they deserved it and God wanted them to be punished by such a godly and honorable man.  Plus, Hillary used a private server.

You are right.  My sister said this weekend that Hillary was more evil than Trump.  On what good green earth is that true?  My brother uses bible verses out of context to say the right is just and the left is foolish.  I have no doubt you are right.  As a country we are going to reap what we sow.

364
While complacency is and would be a terrible thing, here's the latest state polling on Trump's job approval; the state-by-state numbers being important because that's how the game is played.

Trump is underwater in:

- Michigan (by 11)
- Pennsylvania (by 12)
- Wisconsin (by 10)
- North Carolina (by 9)
- Virginia (by 17)
- Utah (by 3)
- Texas (by 1)
- New Hampshire (by 26) (not a typo)
- Iowa (by 4)
- Arizona (by 9)
- Colorado (by 18)
- Florida (by 3)
- Georgia (by 5)
- Minnesota (by 15)
- Nevada (by 23)
- New Mexico (by 9)
- Ohio (by 2)

Also with:
- Independents (by 10)
- Women (by 25)
- Every age group except over 65s
- Every ethnic group except whites

While the Democrats' path to 270 is narrow, Trump's is narrower than his baby fingers wrapped around his micropenis.  In 2016 he threaded the needle by < 80,000 votes across MI, PA & WI and, right now, his job performance is disapproved of by double-digits in each of those uber-critical states.  He's also underwater in Ohio, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Georgia and U-fucking-tah.  Job disapproval doesn't necessarily translate into votes - hence the eleventying-down on the racism - but he can't afford to lose a single state he won last time and right now he's in danger of losing a lot of them.

It's the economy, stupid.  And while the Dow is good, that isn't trickling down to the miners and car workers and many, many others for whom he promised to make things great again.  He's also chopped off farmers at the knees and is trying desperately not to fuck up holiday shopping.

"His" people are the ones taking it in the ass the most; they should be the ones to run him out of the White House on a rail - a heavily reinforced, steel rail - directly into the waiting cuffs of a NY state trooper.

There isn't a policy implemented that does not try to harm someone weaker than themselves.  I have no faith in the American people that vote to do the right thing to save this country.  I am just going to do what I can to try and make it better.

I’m waiting for more data.  He pitched well in his last starts prior to the trade, and it was the Mariners after all. It’s seems likely that he is better than what we had, and that curve ball was real nice, but it seems a bit early to conclude much more than that.

You pitch against the ones they send up.  Yeah, the Mariners aren't good but you still have to get them out.

Jake is not a starter, he is a late inning replacement. Because of the injuries, he's now asked to play more and that is exposing his lack of production. Makes others have to do more in this lineup. So basically, yeah, he's not producing as a starter because he's basically not a starter and never will be. So yes, others being injured means he gets to play and that means he's producing well below Mendoza. I would rather see Straw play more than Jake for that matter. Straw is the bench player, Marisnick the starter. Should be the other way around.

Some of us get it, you don't like Marisnick.  I don't feel as confident as you do that Straw would be a bigger upgrade.  But, that's what's great about this place, we can disagree.

Airbnb. I was in Toronto last September coincidentally when the Astros were there. My trip was an unqualified success, but not really baseball oriented although I did see a game.

The Blue Jays would be a far more interesting team to see, obviously.

I did Airbnb in Toronto also.  Highly recommend that.  You can probably find a place on the Lake and walk to the game.  I wasn't overly impressed with their ballpark, but it was a fun game because of who I went with.  The Blue Jays were playing the Rangers and they also booed Odor.  It was great.

Options may determine the initial decision, but roster construction fascinated me, and I am wondering what it ultimately may be. Marisnick’s new-found offensive progress complicates things for sure. Straw has too much value to be traded, I think, and I have liked Kemp all along. I really hope Alvarez hits when he comes up so DH will be solved. Then there is Tucker who is hitting again. The team needs a frontline pitcher, and someone has to go in that trade.

Agreed!  I definitely think we are going to miss someone due to a trade.  Right now we are forming a lot of attachments, but these players are auditioning on a big stage right now.  In Luhnow I trust.

I'd say half of the people here are not rooting for the good guys.

I'm disappointed to report that there are very classless Astros fans.

While we all understand that we would like White to do better I don't think any of us would say horrid things to him at the game.

Apparently, there was one fan that was saying all kind of things about White.  The couple were talking trash to his family.  Then the drunks got worse and starting trash talking the family.

It was apparently really bad that security got involved.

no, i meant when listening to Sparks and Ford how much is the tv delayed?  I find it hard to watch when i already know what is going to happen.

Game Zone 2019 / Re: BoSox at Houston 05/24/2019

If they're sticking with 13 pitchers, and everything they've said indicates that, either he or Kemp has to go when Altuve comes back (was told the radio said they're thinking during the Cub series).  I see no reason they would keep White over Kemp.

And regarding Springer's replacement, MM is correct:  keeping Tucker down until June 1 gives the Astros this year and then 6 full years before he's a FA.

6 years?  May not matter with a new cba.. I think if they want/need him up tell be here.

You know, for your 8th and 9th inning guy to give up HRs and still win I think it's great.  Unfortunately they were going to give up a run sooner or later.  They gave it up and still won.  I'm ready for a new streak to start tomorrow.

Astros pitching

It is never one thing when it comes to the Astros and their pitchers, never one number that screams, “gotcha!” The team’s process is both more subtle and more expansive, “not a secret sauce,” Hinch says, “as much as a combination.”

The information flows. The conversations continue. The Astros carry on.

New Yankee or old Yankee? Seats are so expensive at New Yankee that it has priced out many of the characters, but the bleachers in the old days were a little edgy, and I liked it.
