Thanks for coming out to cheer us runners today. It was great to see a friendly smiling face.

1B Todd Helton played his 1,999th career game Tuesday. When he reaches 2,000 games, he will be tied for 225th all-time with Ellis Burks. Of the 14 active players who have played more games than Helton, only two -- Yankees SS Derek Jeter (2,357 games) and Braves 3B Chipper Jones (2,331 through Tuesday) -- have played their entire career for one franchise.

According to the model, Jeter is one of the worst shortstops in the majors.
The cost to attend the Career Fair will be $22, which includes not only admittance into the Career Fair, but will also reserve you a seat located in the Field Box section for that night’s game between the Houston Astros and the Chicago Cubs!
The other big change is that the Astros will be more aggressive regarding promoting players than they have under previous regimes. Evidence of this can be seen in the promotion of last year’s 48th round pick Dan Meszaros to AA Corpus Christi and young pitchers Jordan Lyles, Ross Seaton, and Brad Dydalewicz starting the year in low-A Lexington. 2009 draftees can expect a rapid rise through the system if they learn quickly and perform well.
The "Top Chef" star, 39, has not revealed the baby's father.
The Brewers, in a major shakeup, have fired pitching coach Bill Castro, demoted shortstop J.J. Hardy and designated infielder Bill Hall for assignment.
Wesley Wright just walked into the clubhouse. Guess he's the replacement for the recently demoted Felipe Paulino...
"From a team standpoint and what the front office or Ed might do, I don't think [there will be punishment]," Cooper said. "He apologized. But I might get something, though. I might make him run until he gets tired. I'll figure something out."
Phones and monitors for replay will be installed near the field at every ballpark, and decisions will be made by crew chiefs after consulting the New York office.
Astros director of amateur scouting Bobby Heck announced on Saturday the club had reached agreement with first baseman Phil Disher, a 15th-round pick from South Carolina; third baseman David Flores, an 18th-round choice from Cal-State Sacramento; right-handed pitcher Ashton Mowdy, a 19th-round pick from Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College and left-hander Michael Hacker, a 25th-round pick from Consumes River College, California.
If Lance had the career he has had so far in a larger market, his name would be all over the place. If he ever hit like this in New York or Boston, he would be the next president.
"I knew I hit it well. Thank God for the [Craig] Biggio Boxes, I mean the Crawford Boxes, that it went out," Backe said
The 'Stros have tabbed former Phillies GM Ed Wade as their new top guy in the front office. It's hard to dream up a more uninspiring hire. Wade did nothing to distinguish himself in Philly (other than as a guy who's willing to overpay grossly for mediocre relievers). In reality, Wade will be little more than a toothless yes-man for Tal Smith and Drayton McLane. In other words, the Astros will continue their decline as an organization.
Wives gala: The 18th annual "Black Ties and Baseball Caps" wives' gala will take place Aug. 9 at Minute Maid Park, with proceeds benefiting the Houston Area Women's Center.
This year's gala will be co-chaired by Jill Borkowski, wife of relief pitcher Dave Borkowski, and Sara Burke, wife of infielder/outfielder Chris Burke.
Say what? Orlando Palmeiro's nickname is "O." Mark Loretta's is "Lo."
This would normally be considered a rather useless fact, except that it cleared up a bit of confusion left over from Wednesday's game with the Reds.
In the seventh inning, Loretta was hovering around the on-deck circle, presumably preparing to hit for pitcher Dave Borkowski. Loretta was introduced by the public address announcer. But a moment later, Palmeiro went to the plate.
Apparently, there was a bit of a misunderstanding.
"I said, "O," Garner said. "And Loretta thought I said, "Lo."
"The biggest thing for me right now is locating the fastball," said Albers. "I have to trust my stuff a little more. Maybe I over-adjust at times. Sometimes I try to do too much instead of just going back and focusing on the basics. If I start locating the fastball and have confidence in that, then the other pitches will come."
In preparation for this four-game series against Arizona, the Astros made a move to provide them with some additional bullpen depth by calling up lefty Mark McLemore from Triple-A Round Rock.
McLemore appeared in 14 games with the Express, including four starts. He posted a stellar 1.91 ERA in 33 innings of work. He struck out 47 and batters hit just .169 off him.
"He's in the bullpen and available," said manager Phil Garner.
The Sampsons had the game on in the delivery room, and at one point, Heather turned to Chris and said, "Woody Williams hit a home run?"

"We hit some balls hard against the kid. We did have a couple of opportunities that we didn't capitalize on," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "It was tough seeing him for the first time. He threw a really nice game."

The set includes a bobble of Roy Oswalt (promotion on July 28) on the bulldozer given to him by Drayton McLane after being named the 2005 NLCS MVP. Another bobble to be given away features Astros catcher Brad Ausmus catching a wave on his surfboard (promotion on June 16). Carlos Lee's ranching bobble will be given away to the first 10,000 fans on Sept. 15.

The scouts and player development staff were unable to attend Wednesday's ceremony, considering that baseball season is underway and they have responsibilities around the country. Purpura's staff is working to send the rings through overnight mail.

Jay Miller, the president and CEO of the Triple-A Round Rock franchise, is taking a carload of rings back with him on Thursday, and Gottfried will do the same when he heads to Double-A Corpus Christi.

Additionally, the club announced that the tandem of Bill Brown and Jim Deshaies will serve as the television broadcast team for all 155 of the team's broadcasts this season.
Larry Dierker, who served as a color analyst on selected broadcasts from 2004-05, will assume a greater role within the club's community development team and will not appear on broadcasts this season. Dierker will assist the community development office with special events, charitable, and promotional projects. He will oversee the Astros Alumni activities, including the annual golf tournament. Dierker will also devote a significant amount of time toward a major event benefiting literacy next Spring, and the Dierker family will have grandchildren born in both August and October.
"After considering priorities at this stage of my life and baseball career, I have decided to move toward the community relations aspect of baseball," said Dierker. "I also want to devote more time to my friends with the Astros Alumni Club. It was a difficult decision to give up broadcasting, but I have always tried to follow the path with my heart, and this is where it is leading me."
