The Bus Ride Discussion Forum / Tri-City 2019
« on: June 15, 2019, 04:10:49 pm »
There is no Tri-City 2019 header, so I thought I would use 2018.    I see that  Joe Perez is back-hopefully he can have an injury free season.

Bogar the interim manager.  This job may have fallen in Bogar's lap.

Will be interesting whether Nolan has influence with how deep starting pitchers go in each game.  This is a short interview.

The Bus Ride Discussion Forum / Singleton interview
« on: March 03, 2014, 10:36:39 pm »
Jon had the first really in depth interview that I am aware of about his weed habit....interesting to learn that last year he dropped the weed and then substituted alcohol during the season, after which he stopped drinking prior to winter ball.  Really tough to play highly rated baseball with dependence issues, though I know some really great players have.

Had another surgery last week-this time to his throwing shoulder-labrum tear, which followed TJ surgery last year.  Not looking too good for this young man.

I don't really agree with Krugman often (albeit I don't have a Nobel prize in economics), and even though his cure for this economy is specious (he thinks the Federal government has not provided enough liquidity) I will agree him that there is a Bad Moon Rising.   Pray that we are both idiots and better times are ahead.

Talk Zone / RIP Willie Davis

Colorful life--love the quote:Former Dodgers general manager Buzzie Bavasi once said of Davis: "There was nothing more exciting than to watch Willie run out a triple. ... He could have been a Hall of Famer, but he had million-dollar legs and a 10-cent head."

Talk Zone / Worst baseball brawl?

I was reading about Bill Dickey on Wiki and was amazed to read about his personal coach and mentor Albert Edwin Dickey, who lost his index finger to Ty Cobb who bit it off at the knuckle.  Eat your heart out, Mike Tyson.

Talk Zone / Interesting article about Shoeless Joe
« on: June 01, 2008, 05:03:12 pm »
http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080601/SPORTS/806010326&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL

I found this article about Shoeless Joe who briefly played after the Black Sox scandal in Bastrop, La, the home of Shane Reynolds.  I remember as a child hearing my grandfather talking about watching him play, but I thought it was mostly BS.

Reading about Joe's talent makes me even more sad about "better athletics through chemistry".   Joe claimed he was innocent of the scandal--was simply sticking by his teammates, but regardless of his guilt or innocense I could hardly think of another player I would rather watch.

Talk Zone / Jim R.
« on: April 27, 2006, 06:20:41 am »
Watching Taveras mature as a hitter makes me think of last year when it seemed that Willie could only bunt or beat out an infield ground ball for a hit.  He seemed to break out of this mold during the playoffs and continues this year.  I remember Jim stating that Willie was a good line drive hitter in AA ball and not to worry.  Another good call, Jim.

Talk Zone / Ed Ott
« on: December 23, 2005, 09:53:51 am »
Does anyone know if Ed Ott is still coaching?  I will never forget that famous moment in 1991 when Rob Dibble started a brawl when he threw a fast ball BEHIND Eric Yelding--at the bottom of the ensuing pile, Ed was choking Dibble whose face began turning blue.  I haven't heard anything about him in years and was just wondering.
