Most of these writers could watch a sex tape of Jeter and their wife and say it was the most beautiful art they ever saw.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

To be fair, the writers might be willing to make such an indecent proposal in hopes of receiving one of Jeter’s famous “post-date” gift baskets.

Glad I’m not watching. Sounds like the Texans were never even in this one.

Our offense genius head coach seemed surprised that the Ravens blitzed early and often and had no scheme to offset or counteract it. Of course, the Texans were coming off a bye and the ravens blitz more than any other team in the league, so draw whatever conclusions you see fit.

The fact that they already announced Jared taking his place rather than searching for a replacement says to me that Jim wanted his son in the job to start grooming him, and shoved Reid out to make it happen.

Crane is the controlling owner, but far from the only owner. I’m surprised he was willing to jam his son into this role given that the minority owners own a significant portion of the team and would likely prefer to explore other options.

@hostros7, My church was having some work done so we met at Higher Ground this last Sunday.  Here's a pic:

Everyone else in the division lost today.

Bye week, then the Ravens followed by the Colts on a Thursday night.  That's going to be a big game!

The Thursday night affair could result in Brian Hoyer starting at NRG for the first time since he was on the wrong side of a 30-0 playoff game and, unfortunately, playing for the Texans.

Agree.  I am fairly certain that Cole will run in and rip the ball from Hinch's hand if Greinke shows any sign of weakness as the game progresses.

Hinch’s plan A has to be Greinke - Cole - Harris - Osuna, right?

Well, it comes down to one game.  If the players need any additional motivation, other than it's Game FUCKING Seven of the World Series, they need to re-evaluate their career choice.  As several people have pointed out, *this* is the reason they went out and got Zach Greinke.  *THIS* is the reason you want to win your division, have home field advantage.  Regardless of tonight's outcome, I'm proud of this team and proud to be an Astros fan.  However, this is the best team the Astros have ever had, and if they don't finish it, I will be disappointed in the outcome.  Getting to the Nats pen will be key, I think.  They can certainly do it.  They just have to go out and do it.

Well said. I would add please keep Trea Turner off the base paths.

I’ll be there again tonight.

Did you know that 21 is also Zack Greinke’s number? Well, it is, but he’s actually 36. So much symmetry and a symmetry simultaneously in this match-up, not only of number and ages but ages and years.

To add a little levity, the best moment from the broadcast team tonight just occurred. The camera panned over drunken Astros revelers who are apparently too cocked to realize the outcome and happened to scan by exactly the type of woman I hope AB encounters over the next 36 hours... picture April Bigcannons from East Bound and Down. She gives a little shimmy for the camera and a hot mic pics up a “woah” from Smoltz (I think, not positive). I rewound and confirmed the “woah” though. Anyways, back to our present situation.

Definitely two different strike zones tonight.

The umps are at least consistent in that they’ve  had two different strike zones in every game this series

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

220
Goddamnit George. You don't have to swing so fucking hard

Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Someone needed to tell him it was the 2nd inning, not top 9. Keep the turnstiles moving. Paxton only threw one strike, which was a gift from the HPU.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

221
Fuck. JV didnt make his pitches when he was up in the count.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

224
An extra run would be welcome.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

225
Ken Rosenthal providing the hard hitting analysis.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

226
Given that they expected to burn through their bullpen, it made no sense to carry a one-hitter guy.  Shame for CC, but this is on Boone.  Now they’re short a pitcher but need to rack up a lot of innings if they want to win the series.

I’m pretty sure he can be replaced on the playoff roster if he’s injured. If so, CC would then also be ineligible to play in the next series, if the team advances.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

227
Diaz hasn’t provided quality ABs off the bench.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

228
Sabathia looks like he's wearing pajamas styled to look like a uniform. Yankee pajamas, I bet they sell them somewhere.

Pajamas? They took the pinstripe sheets off a California king bed set and got to work.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

229
Damn, Chirinos took one off the sore left upper arm, and the classy Yankees fans cheer.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

230
The normally well above average Yankees infield defense has been shockingly horrible.

The announcers are trying so hard to come up with another explanation.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

231
Sparky says that tonight is the 6th postseason game in which both Springer and Correa hit home runs, which is the most of any duo of teammates ever.

Good fun fact.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

232
Ump calls strike 1 at altuve’s chin.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

233
It makes it spectator interference, and it's not an automatic double.  The umps place runners where they think they'd have reached if there were no interference.  LeMahieu had already stopped at 1B.

As James strikes out Judge to end the inning.

That’s what I thought, but I knew you would have the clear explanation. Thankfully, the ruling ended up being inconsequential.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

234
The fan seemed to reach over the wall into the field of play when he touched it. Wouldn’t that make it a dead ball and a single, not a ground rule double?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Strike 1 called on Reddick has been a ball when Greinke throws it.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

251
Just threw a 3-2 fastball by Judge to end the inning.  Judge was not ready for that.

He lulled him with the slow curves down — a 24 mph difference.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

252
The bats need to show up.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

253
The 0-1 pitch to Sanchez was interesting, but Greinke averted disaster for now.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

254
This is not good. His marginal misses have deteriorated to obvious balls.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

255
The ball really seemed to carry to RF even with weak contact off Altuve’s bat.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cole and JV get to pitch one more each.

Depending on the weather, maybe not if the Yankees win the next 3.

Beer and Queso / Re: Texans 2019
« on: October 13, 2019, 09:56:51 pm »
The only truly idiotic thing BOB did was give Mahomes another down, and that of course led to a touchdown.

Otherwise, I thought this was about as well coached a game as you could possibly hope to see. The RPO with the TEs was a new wrinkle that the Chiefs had no answer for.

And the kick distance pre-penalty wasn’t necessarily a gimme either, just ask Kaimi.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Beer and Queso / Re: Texans 2019
« on: October 13, 2019, 06:51:08 pm »
I give BOB credit for actually running the ball in Q4, when they could’ve continue to shred that defensive secondary.

BOB and the staff coached a good game. The defense seemed to change the strategy in the 2nd half from allowing the chiefs to catch anything under 15 yards, which was an improvement. The Texans left a lot of points on the field and still won fairly convincingly for a road win in the NFL.

I’m bummed about Howard. The line has been improving and gelling, and he’ll now miss a year it seems.

If you don’t have a kicker trustworthy enough to attempt a 45 yarder in good conditions to seal a win, you don’t have a kicker.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

318
True... but he is supposed to be one of our studs --- not even in the same conversation as the 2017 CC

He bats 7th, and I haven’t seen 7 studs on this offense in a minute or two.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

319
Another good outcome for the team that hits the ball the other way

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

320
Diaz really doesn’t seem like an ace pinch hitter in a small sample size. Then again, a chopper to short is about an average offensive for the Astros tonight.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

321
Several Yankees have been shown on camera looking inside their caps at notes or whatever, and Judge blocked a camera from seeing what he and two coaches were looking at in the dugout. To be clear, I don’t care in the slightest and don’t think anything untoward is occurring, but, if it were the Astros, there would be an octo-box panel of former Yankees and Red Sox discussing the ethics of the situation.

I might need to switch over to the radio feed.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maddux would piss on your shower sandals if he ever heard such a thing.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Goddammit. Of course that found a landing zone.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

325
*Score A run!

Hit a ball hard more than once!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

326
Greinke should have listened to Smoltz. No breaking ball to Stanton on 3-2 is a head scratcher.

Agree, and particularly since he threw a fastball on the previous pitch

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

327
Can someone make the astros score runs?

Someone should tell Daniela that Carlos wouldn’t even make the top 10 on the marquee for this series and I bet she would light a fire under his ass

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Their third base coach is a real cocksucker.

You’re spoiling his judge HR celebration: He’s going to drop on his knees and head bob.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also, that 3rd base coach needs to be put in the penalty box for that celebration.

331
Fuck

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

332
Judge is so good he made Bregman think it was in the gap.

You know, he’s a really underrated fielder. NO ONE talks about it. He made a BRILLIANT play where he caught a line drive hit right at him and the lobbed it to first to double off a player who was still 20 feet from the bag.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

333
What was Bregman doing? Yordan roped it but Judge was right there.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

334
Bergman laid off the outside pitch up in the zone on 3-2 that felled Altuve

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

335
Veins bulged on the phallus due to its indignation a breaking ball over the plate was called a strike.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Greinke isn’t getting the same calls down in the zone that Tanaka is in my biased opinion.

You know, after JV's shitburger in the first inning, they've kept the Astros in the game.  Just needed to rattle the bats more.

Credit to the Rays defense as well. If not for that, this game would be a nail biter.

Half of this equation is related to the post about Barkley directly above.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

383
Correct. If the Astros win tomorrow, Cole pitches Game 1 and Verlander slots into Game 2 on normal rest.

If there's a Game 5, Cole pitches. Probably Grienke in Game 1, Verlander Game 2, and Cole in Game 3. That would permit Grienke to pitch Game 5 and Verlander to pitch Game 6 and Cole to pitch Game 7 on regular/extended rest. That just leaves game 4. Not ideal, but it's all do or die at that point anyway.

If we win the game 5 against TB, of course.

BOB is probably the worst offensive coach in the last 30 years in the NFL, and most assuredly the worst developer of QBs in the history of football. Whoever thought he was some sort of offensive guru was sniffing glue.

His offensive scheme is weak, deshaun seems to excel in spite of him at times, he’s not a defensive guy, he’s not a competent game manager, his challenge rate is subpar... so, what is it you say you do here, Bill?

After this ridiculous heat we have been having, booked a flight for San Fran next week to watch the Astros A’s and check off the final west coast stadium I haven’t been to.  High in Oakland is like 68 degrees.  Can’t fucking wait.

The diving catch was one thing, but I'm not sure why everyone is surprised that a pitcher with a mid-90s fastball could make an on-target throw from left field and nail someone at the plate.  Unusual circumstances for sure, but hardly far fetched.

Sure, he has the arm strength, but fielding a ball and making a throw on target at a high velocity from the outfield is different from throwing a pitch.

Jake’s two jacks in Miami are still two of my favorite relatively insignificant, mundane blasts. When he gets AHOLT of one, he crushes it

Yordan doubles, misses a grand slam by 4 feet.

The fair comment is to say he missed 2 HRs by a few degrees of launch because he definitely didn’t come up short on the power on either one

He was ok until he did the rear ejection with the batting gloves.

The umpire could also put on his big boy pants and pretend like he didn’t see it. It’s not as if he called him a cocksucker.

With the mustache, Reddick looks like a cross between Glenn Davis and Jeff Kent.

According to the twitter, Springer called him Ron Burgundy when Reddick donned a headset.

Grienke is probably slightly bummed that he won’t be able to hit very often, so I hope it motivates him to do his damndest to get us back to the series.

What a day. Let’s play some baseball

That would make more sense as an explanation than them thinking that after sweeping the Pirates they're now one starter away from winning it all.

But, then again, it doesn’t because Noah has two years of arb. left and Stroman only has one.

Yordan needs to find a way to be in the lineup everyday, even without the DH.

Chose Straw over Kemp. I do not disagree.

I’ve been starting to wonder if the org has plans for Straw that are filed away in a folder marked “Life after Correa”

I was hoping he would be a piece in a larger deal. I do not disagree with Straw over Kemp. I like Kemp a lot.

He still may be. The team has until the trade deadline to get something done that includes Kemp.

Kaplan reports Kemp will be DFA when Correa returns tomorrow.

Bummer. When he popped up in his PH AB on Tuesday, I thought to myself “I hope this isn’t his last moment as an Astro.”

Second chuck’s motion if the bench size is cut down. It’s already too big. You fantasy mavens hoard multiple TEs and kickers.
