Well, that K did it.  Just a small tear, but it did it.  (I was FaceTiming with my ol’ Lady and the dog too)

So much orange in those stands.  I cried all October in 2017 - I get the feeling I’ll be crying a bit before the nights over.

#2 - Anyone interested in getting together on the 29th to watch the Astros on Opening Day up north?

If anyone near philly wants to do an opening day meetup, I could swing that.  Won’t be in town till the 31st.

Is it so far fetched to consider the stros still in the running for Darvish?   I know it would ultimately bump Morton from the rotation but what about the 6 man rotation?  With Keuchel “possibly” leaving after next year and Morton in the same boat, does it not make sense to create the “super rotation” especially if he could be had without going to 5 or 6 years?

Did any of you order the "front page" from the Chronicle from the day-after? It is supposedly a glossy "suitable for framing".  Wife ordered it and they charged our account November 3rd and that's the last we have heard from them.

I was still a bit drunk and ordered the Glossy front page, the entire paper and then went to SI and ordered the original 2014 WS issue.  got the glossy front page, but not paper or the magazine yet.  I remember seeing something about high volume sales and shipping may take a bit longer than normal.

We met some good people tonight.  I probably heard more than 300 various “f*** the Astros chants”.  As I am typing this, we are on the d train listening to a chant of “f*** altuve”. I don’t think I have ever heard anything like that in Minute Maid - or even the dome.  If the stros win tomorrow, we may guy try to come back on Wednesday because t I would honestly rather sit in the comfort of my living room than hear more of that.  It kind of made me sad.

Thanks y'all.  Had the cheesesteak "wiz with" and it wasn't bad.  My fiancé is a Jims on 5th fan so that's where our steaks usually come from.  She says pats and geno's are for tourists.
The game was pretty hard to watch.  Beltran isn't exactly fleet footed anymore but we all know that.  It just looked like they lacked hustle.
The guy 2 seats in front of me took a ball off the face and he has some cool stitch marks.  Ball went right over the net - the lower part - and I am definitely for extending the nets now.  I worry about the kids.  We were all paying attention and the ball caromed off a rail.
LOTS of Astros fans in the seats.   About 10 people I spoke to were headed up to Cooperstown.

Now back to my corner to lurk and hope for some trade news.

I don't post a lot but I am currently stationed in Turkey at Incirlik, and last week was pretty crazy.  Early Saturday morning we lost power to the base and didn't have it for about a week.  Everyone basically moved into the few buildings that were run off of generators.  We still flew missions in support of the current fight - almost without a beat.  It was pretty awesome to be a part of.

Didn't get to go to the game today.  I had to do the work thing.  I really wanted to see lyles throw too.  I'm staying at the same hotel as the team and they've been really nice.

On a side note - on the C-130, if the apu generator switch is in the "on" position, the aircraft will not let you supply power with a ground power unit.  Now you know

And knowing is half the battle.

Seriously though, the few days I got to see this team, I think they're going to win in bunches.  They seem streaky to me.  They were aggressive on the base paths and I liked that a lot.

Wallace's HR went about 450 - it was a no doubter.  He walked and advanced to second on lin's walk but was picked off due to what I attribute to a berkman like brain fart.  Don't remember the play exactly but I do remember the berkman thought.  He seemed pretty upbeat and had a good attitude.

Paredes credited with 2 errors today.  This game was a lot sloppier than yesterday's - for both teams.  3 errors for both teams.  Wallace, paredes and Krauss all homered.  Oklahoma just outslugged Albuquerque.  This game reminded me of the analogy usually associated to golf - learning how to win ugly.  But it can't be all bad if you're scoring ten runs.  Everyone in the lineup except Jaramillo had hits today.

Seaton went 4 and a third and I think did better than his line shows.  He kept the ball down well (11 groundouts - 0 fly outs)

I got a bunch of pictures if y'all want to see em I'm gonna put them on the Facebook.  (I don't know a better place to put em.  My name is scott barrier and I think the Facebook says I live in Spain still)

No hr's for either team tonight but the field looks large.  340 to the corners and 400+ out to center.  Don't remember those dimensions exactly, but I remember sitting there thinking the park just looked big.  I know I knock the shit out of a golfball up here and that makes me feel like a badass

Went to the game tonight here in Albuquerque.  OkC getting the win over the isotopes, here's what I saw with my untrained eye -

Cosart went 5 strong giving up a run and 3 hits.  Got into a jam in the 4th and worked his way out of it pretty well.  The curve was ptty nasty tonight and he hit 97 a few times.  Stayed around 93 94 most of the night.

Musick went 3 allowing only one hit.  Works really fast.

Paredes got a horrible read on a hard hit ball running in about 3 steps then realizing the ball was cruising over his head -

Going to the next 3 games so if y'all are lookin for something specific let me know.

Well after a week in Albuquerque I really like this town. The food has been great I just wish I was drinking right now (once a year I stop drinking for thirty days just to prove to myself that I don't HAVE to drink)

I hooked up with a lot of decent golfers from the base and will be playing some of the nicer courses in the area.  This was after I won a hundred bucks off of the rest of my foursome too.

Also going to see Band of Horses on Wednesday night, with a really hot girl I met the other day.  -  a friend of mine is stationed here and his band was playing and in between sets they had a burlesque show.  This chic was working with them but not dancing.  She was selling raffle tickets and basically lookin good.

Looking forward to Wednesday and just want to say thanks to everybody that gave me some info.  I constantly come back here looking for things to do.

Also going to see some of the isotopes games soon.

Generally in the Air Force we check for the nicest hotels where we are landing next.  I get to shoot a gun once every other year or so.  I think it'd be easier to get my hands on a .50 cal here in Texas rather than from the military.

Mine was a Nolan Ryan.  Or about five.  Growing up in Alvin I had so many balls, gloves, napkins from delia's with his autograph on them.  When I was about 14 he was a real dick to a friend of mine - I think it's the first time I ever saw the extreme type A personality a lot of pitchers have.  (a was a pitcher too, not trying to start any fights here) haven't really been a fan ever since.  Most of my baseball card collection / comics / memorabilia from my childhood were destroyed in one of the floods.  I still like delia's though.

I've been an aircrew member on military aircraft for about 13 years and when someone gets a text - a horrible buzz comes through all the interphone systems.  It's similar to interference you hear through a radio when your phone is really close.  It's a real pain in the ass and everyone pretty much stops what they're doing to find the one A-hole to turn off his phone.  (or just put it on airplane mode - it's the signal that the aircraft comm systems pick up)

I rarely log on and most of the time when I try to my computer tells me to check my cookie settings - but - props to limey - my iPad has no problems.  I came back to the states recently and got tickets to a game from my aunt.  She was in Beaumont and normally can't get these tickets but she said I was military and yada yada yada got the tickets - anyways, we are in the diamond club, the kind where you're sitting next to Barbara bush - except I don't really see her at the games anymore.  But around the 4th inning I go to get a new margarita and I turn around and see Jeff freekin bagwell about 3 feet from me at a table talking with someone.  I proceed to freak out and it seems the only words I can say are "holy shit, and Jeff bagwell" but I tell my cousin and the girl I'm on a date with not to bother him and we make it back to our seats and my cousin "goes to the bathroom". She gets back and says that bags wants to see me.  He said thanks for doing the military thing and then he said something about how bad the stros were right now and I started to go into the "Astros are in a better way than they were after 2005" thing and he quickly ended the conversation.  I didn't want to ask about him not being in the booth this year cause I didn't even want to hint at rehab and things of the sort.  But all in all - pretty kick ass game.  And the diamond level is the shit.

Been in the Air Force a little over ten years now.  looking forward to Turkey and yes I do plan on seeing as much as i can.  Biblical stuff to shotguns and carpets.  I cant wait.  I hear many good things about the Turkish Rivierra and skiing as well but have never skied, just some kneeboarding in Chocolate Bayou when i was growing up.  I dont think there's any surf in Turkey and that bums me out.

I grew up in Alvin and got to play on Nolan Ryan field in high school.  Ryan was in the stands for one of the best games I ever had.  It was something retarted like 15 k's in 7 innings.  I could do no wrong that night and after the game Nolan pat me on the back and told me i threw a hell of a game.

I also had a ton of Delia's napkins with his autograph but they were destroyed in one of the many floods since i left Alvin.

OK - i was gonna start a new thread but since this one's kind of computery - here goes.  I have a motorcycle and want to install a system where you keep a chip (or whatever) in your wallet (or wherever), like a CAC.  proximity with this chip would essentially be the same as having the key in the "on" position.  so all you would have to do is hit the starter and "roll"  is there anything like that out there?

I guess i'm in the SP category as not being the best but had my time or two in the sun.  I played on the Alvin JV team i think it was my sophmore year.  we were playing clear lake.  I always hated clear lake cause my cousins were from there and the girls were way hotter.  i was a left handed pitcher/1B.  I happened to get the start that night and noticed Nolan Ryan sitting in the bleachers as he probably still does.  not a big thing in alvin as i usually saw him at Delia's off HWY 35 - great mexican food by the way.  all i remember from the game was i had never thrown a shutout.  after the game sitting on a knee as usual - coach garza tells me i had freekin 15 K's that night.  i don't throw hard and just threw a fastball / splitter / change.  nothing overpowering but i still love to throw the splitter when i play catch with my dad.

forgot to say - i got a slight nod from Nolan.  coolest thing ever.

As Noe notes, he's probably looking for a different kind of Mexican food than Tex-Mex. Still, I can see this:

A waiter places a plate of quesadillas on the table and asks Morgan if he will be needing anything else. Morgan stares at the waiter, speechless, barely blinking. The waiter walks off and returns with a plate or sizzling fajitas, setting them down right in front of Morgan. The waiter asks if there's anything else. Morgan continues staring blankly at him, dead silent. Finally, the waiter goes to the kitchen and comes back with a plate of enchiladas, which he deposits squarely before Morgan. Morgan finally turns toward the food, picks up a fork, and lunges at the dish before him, but comes up empty, his utensil never making contact with the food on the plate. He then gets up, expressionless, and walks out of the restaurant, muttering to himself.

maybe i should clarify cause i didn't mean to get everyone riled up.  everett is coming back from eight weeks off.  i know if i had that much time off i'd be a little rusty.  and i'm not trying to say give AE less playing time, cause that's not the answer.  but we're playing good ball without him, so maybe ease him back into the starting gig.

"Maybe i'm just not gettin' ya here, but are you saying that you would start Loretta at SS and Bruntlett at 2nd???  Then replace Loretta with Everett?"

no,  i'd start loretta at short and BGO at second.  i know this is a horrible up the middle combo, but i just can't bring myself in my imaginary role as skipper to not start biggio.  late inning defensive replacement of everett and bruntlett.

i didn't mean to hijack the thread and just got off a graveshift so i'm going to sleep and as usual i'll read everything that went on while you guys are sleeping or whatever you're doing.

(1) There is no question in my mind that AE starts when he gets back and if someone still can't see the value of his defense and leadership, especially after the last few weeks, then they never will. And (b) in your scenerio above you assume Bruntlett's on the team when AE returns, he may not be.

A. No doubt in my mind either.   I'm not garner, I'm an aircraft mechanic.  I'd do it to solely rely on loretta's bat as much as possible and everett's glove late in the game.  and 2. Bet you're right there as well.  Can't argue with you cause i don't see them demoting Burke again, sad as it is

if i was gar, it'd be loretta.  late innings with AE at short and i'd put bruntlett at second.  every time i think of bruntlett i think of the DP he turned to save the winning run and get us to the WS.  (If i remember correctly, and i meant double play not the other DP just to clarify before it came to it)  And i'm not in high school, just a product of the great Alvin Independent School District.  Haven't been home in about 8 years, anyone follow yellowjackets baseball?  and are they any good?
