They won plenty of 3 game series during the season. I guess from game 1-161 they were built well for those.

Very confusing play as seen from the CF Bleachers... Im glad Froemming was watching more closely than I was. Nobody in the stadium knew what was going on during the appeal though, great baseball town.

No way they deal Ichiro for Willis... They would riot in the streets here in Seattle. Whoever made the post about Ichiro's presence at Safeco is exactly right though, he absolutely IS the Mariners. That is, until Felix learns how to control what he has. The Mariners have a very crowded outfield with Ibanez and Ichiro and, as was mentioned, Jones and Balentien in Tacoma. Ibanez would be a great 1B/DH, but there is also the Sexson/Broussard logjam. SOMEBODY has to go...

Felix was even better on opening day... The movement on his fastball was even noticable way out in center field with 5, 6 beers in me. I would guess he was getting 5-6 inches of movement on 98mph heat, it was unreal...

One of my buddies claims that he once saw PBR light at convenience store in Madison, WI but this was never substantiated. I have never personally seen it anywhere in Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin although they do allude to it on their website.

I have seen PBR Light up here in Seattle from time to time... PBR has a reputation up here as the hipster beer of choice. The blue collar wannabes guzzle it to feel less yuppie. Most bars up here used to have Rainier on tap, which is an incredible low class beverage. Its basically Lone Star's northwest cousin as I think Pabst bought them both or something close to that... All the old Rainier taps are mostly PBR now sadly.

The world champs thing is a little ridiculous, but you can't say he doesn't have a shot at the CY every year... Last time I checked, he was one of the filthiest guys in the league, idiot antics aside.

Craig Biggio is FAR from an a-hole... Maybe hes intense at work, where he is paid to be, but shouldn't we all be? Anyone who has met him off the field would absolutely laugh at that statement.

I call bullshit on those that decry the touchdown dance or the victory celebration. Not saying that you do, but I think that leagues and individuals are slowly draining sports and athletes of their passion and to some extent, fun. Who wants to watch a bunch of guys marching down the field like robots and shaking each others hands when they score? Give me passion please. If you win the game you can do whatever dance you want.

His wife must need a break from that kind of behavior and probably offered no discouragement to him for moving on. Who would blame her if she said, "yeah, Andy, why don't you finish your career in NYC."

damn, don't need to bring a guy's family into it... Although I did read that his kids cried when he told them he was a Yankee again.

Talk Zone / Re: Red Sox pay 51.1 mil to talk to Boras
« on: November 15, 2006, 02:35:28 pm »
Seems like some people understand what that 50 mil is for and some don't... Matsuzaka hasn't signed with anyone. That 50 mil is merely for the right to *talk* to him about a possible contract. I believe that goes to whoever his club in Japan is. The Red Sox have to pay that 50 mil to his club to just enter discussions with him, then they have to pay whatever contract they agree on with him. Is that the way it works? Insane...

It was his first game as an Astro. He came in, plunked Lee, and was tossed AND suspended if I remember... The guy came in and took care of business for a bunch of teamates he didnt even know, it was beautiful.

"Rick Ritts (the PBP guy) said (in a way that was almost like saying "sure, it's only a matter of time now") "he'll need to clear waivers first."

Rick Rizzs, and yeah hes kind of annoying. Henderson is 100x better than Jay Buhner was if you can wrap your head around that.

I like Bagwell hitting 2, but the question remains: in a sacrifice situation, whens the last time Baggy has laid one down? Then again, is his feel for the game/talent level so great that it wouldnt even be an issue? Line drives, walks, a little protection in front of Lance, #2 seems good in theory. I guess it comes down to which one you think will be greater than the other, his ability to drive in runs or his ability to get on base...

Talk Zone / Versatility
« on: October 17, 2005, 12:15:58 am »
I don't think this teams versatility is praised enough. How nice is it to have 2 or 3 guys that can not only play almost anywhere on the field, but play well? The Inches game was a great example of this, but today's 9th inning sticks out too. Also, without the versatility, Garner's lineup swaps would be handcuffed a bit. Just thought it should get more attention than it does...
