« on: June 10, 2009, 10:14:07 pm »
Hey Guys:

I have Dish network and I do have Fox Sports SW (416)but all they show is the Rangers games instead of the Astros.  The Astros do come on when the Rangers are off.  Last year the Astros were usually on an alternate Fox Sports Channel (usually 46) but that doesn't seem the case this year.  As a matter of fact, channel 446 doesn't even appear on my list of channels and I have the same programming as last year.  I live near Alvin so I don't think I'm in the Rangers broadcast area.

Any help or advice you guys could give would be appreciated.

Spoiled how?  Soured?  Oxidized (sherry/cardboard taste)?  Other?

Have you tasted it previously?

Bad bottles of commercial beer do happen, but they are (thankfully!) pretty rare in my experience.

I drank one on a previous day from the same lot and it was fine but the next one I had was very sour.  The bad one had some sediment at the bottom but being a homebrewer I usually dismiss such things.  These guys are a bit pricey to have bad ones in the bunch.

I bought a couple of 6 packs of Sisyphus Barleywine while they had it at Spec's downtown but some of them seemed spoiled.  I was wondering if any of our beer guys/gals had the same experience?

« on: May 22, 2007, 02:36:54 am »
To those who didn't see the game tonight, Kristi Yamaguchi was one of the ball dudes down the line at the game tonight.

Bill Brown has twice now referred to her as a gymnast, one time advising her to use the rail as a parallel bar.

Funny stuff, as JD knows she is an ice skater, mentioning her short program.

I don't care  what Bill Brown says Kristi Yamaguchi is a good looking gal.  Of couse I like brunettes.

Thats about the best part of tonight's game.

I know you have to give that error to Scott, but damn Lamb has to stop that ball.  You can't pull that ole shit with the tying run.

Post game, Lamb tried to blame the bad throw on Biggio, but it was bullshit.  He just slung the ball into RF.
just goes to show why Lamb has never made a starting job.  The shitty part is that MoBerg cant hit.

Have to say Bonds is a bigger asshole than Clemens. but I'm still bitter at his contract demands when we tried  to get him from Toronto in a trade.

Talk Zone / Re: the best thing about Pence
« on: May 19, 2007, 02:17:45 am »
From RJs blog this morning (with all due appologies to Pravata) ...

One moment stands out from his brief time in the big leagues. One moment tells you all you need to know about this kid and what he has done for the Astros. It occurred in the ninth inning Wednesday when he was jogging out toward center field and someone tossed him a ball to warm up with. The throw led him by too much, so what did he do?

Hunter Pence dove for the ball! Right there between innings of his 16th major league baseball game. In the dugout, veterans saw it and laughed.

''It's like he's still in Little League,'' Trever Miller said.

Shouldn't that is how it should be.  I bet if you or I could be in the big leagues for one game, I would dive for a warm up ball.

Fat chance of that. This place is teeming with Yankee jerk-offs. I sure hope he gets lit up, though. I want to be there for that.
Outside of the ATL game in O5 has he really started and won a big playoff game or a game that really was on the line?  I can't recall if he did or not.

Talk Zone / Biggio
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:27:46 am »
Biggio's skills have declined that is a fact, but in my opinion he is Mr. Astro.  He did alot of things for the community and the team by taking less money than offered in FA to stay with the Astros.  To tell you the truth, he is still better than alot of middle infielders overall and he was one hell of a player in his day and he is not embarassing himself the way Willie Mays did at the end of his career.   Would Loretta be a better option, yes he would and I believe we will see him alot more in the 2nd half.

We all roast Clemens and Pettite for jumping ship but fail to realize that there are some players that show some loyalty to their team.  I believe Biggio is one of those people.  Baseball is a business and free agency has made it that way.  Biggio will be the  first Astro to wear an Astros cap when inducted into the Hall of Fame and I think that deserves a little leeway.

Thats what I think

He just wanted someone to say Lastings Milledge.

The question is, can you get anything for Burke?  I don't believe you will get much that would help us.  Sure we could use a good starting pitcher but do you think if we packaged Burke with Ensberg with a player to be names he would be worth a damn?  His stock has fallen greatly as has Ensberg's.

Of course I am biased in that I am an Ensberg fan but could you get a younger decent starting pitcher for that?

« on: January 13, 2006, 02:34:22 am »

I don't think the payrolls listed in the article include deferred money owed to players no longer on the roster. Example: The Astros paid Jeff Kent $7MM last year, which would have put the payroll at ~$83MM.

They did?  I thought they had an option for 7 million, not a buyout.

IIRC it was pretty popular for local media to scof at the Astros signing Viz originally, as it wasn't the major "head turning" off season move that everyone was craving.  In hind sight one would have to be blind not to recognize the valuable contributions, on and off the field Jose made to the Astros during his tenure with the club.

Vizcaino was a hard working hard nosed baseball player whom never complained about the role he filled, at least that I know about.  I wish him well.

Gaetti has also made alot of right handed players fall in love with pulling the ball down the left field line shooting for the Crawford Boxes.  I see this especially with Everette.  Ensberg could also take the ball the other way on occassion also.

One has to remember that football has a week to prepare for a game.  Baseball catchers have a day or two.  Starting pitchers go more than a starting quarterback.

I my opinion Basketball players are the most athletic but I believe the mental grind of a baseball season trumps them all.

Talk Zone / Re: Rondell White
« on: December 18, 2005, 03:56:49 pm »
I believe White would be a good option for a 4th outfielder provided that he is not too expensive.  We all know that Bagwell will be given every opportunity to play first base and Berkman will be in left and is next in line for first base.

White is so injury prone and is a big defensive liability but has a good bat when healthy.  In a limited role, I believe he could excel here.

Looper was a great sign for St. Louis, but as always teams overpay for talent.

I believe they did this only because Izzy's arm is always a question from year to year and Looper can step into a closer's role if needed.  Expensive insurance policy but i guess they thought they needed it.

I know they traded Ray King and I believe that Julian Tavarez is a Free Agent and is heading elsewhere which I have heard that the Mets were involved so their bullpen has taken a bit of a hit.
