We had a great experience in D.C. - New York is the worst I've been too, by far

Charles? That's not the one that always tries to hotfoot it out of there, is it? You'd want to take one of the more controllable ones if it's the World Series is what I would have thought. My second son, Max - he's the real baseball fan.
Well, boys, here's the good news. Game Five means Trumpy will make an appearance. And, more notably, me and my 7 year old.
I think the worst in this group is Porter, who has been known to have a bit of a short temper, but compared to the usual suspects, he's amazing.
So...they should do what?Just an observation
I've been to DC for July 4. Zoo-like is a good way to describe it.
Looks like good old Henry's thinking about making a break for it.Constantly
Jim keeps saying that he's not sure that Cole *will* go. I'm hoping his optimism stems from some inside info.
Yep. No one to blame. Just better options for the Astros and he was out of them. I don't know about how his weight gain might have or have not affected his performance. There's been fatter guys than him that have done quite well. I wish him the best.As a fat guy, this is nuts. You think the Astros suggested his off-season program should be nachos and bud heavy?
Barzilla?

Not at all funny.
So does anyone have any thoughts about why the Astros chose to pinch run Marisnick and not Straw in the final game? I thought that Straw would have been the natural choice but they chose otherwise.
Someone do some PBP, I have to grill shrimp
That’s cute but: https://twitter.com/auburnfootball/status/1138485493262356480?s=21How about 6 national championships?

Well, ok. Have him scream something again so we know where you are. Or you could just give your location relative to the two Geico cavemen masquerading as ZZ Top circa Rio Grande Mud.5 rows directly behind them; luckily for the viewership, probably out of the frame.
Wait, are these the same seats from which your father screamed something everyone could hear on the tv broadcast? Do I have that story right? That's ridiculous. Those seats were in Chicago.
Is Devo done? Question of the day.Yes
What's the word for a cougar from another century?
Bags going off on exit velocity was great. "I don't care, it's over the fence", on Springer's HR. Then Bregman chops one for a single to 2B..."What was the exit velocity on that knock?"The best part was that Bregman's chopper had a higher velo than Springer's shot
More than a couple of times someone has written me off-list asking, Is this guy Hap really as crazy as he seems?
Well, there's little to no evidence to indicate that it's any sort of an act.
Yeah, boy. I won’t be able to sleep until I know this.
Trump just issued an emergency executive order grounding the Max 8 immediately. No word on whether or not he's still flummoxed by aerodynamics or how a thermos works.
You sat between them?
Astros are planning to extend the $17.9M qualifying offer to Dallas Keuchel. They are planning not to extend it to Marwin Gonzalez. No word yet on Charlie Morton, who may be a close call.
That is a significant achievement.
I'm going to sneak in this thread to say that First Man is really great. I went in expecting an update of the first scenes of the Right Stuff (which would have been great) and it was that and a lot more. Darker than Apollo 13, but really masterfully done.
Vegas odds are not the chances that a team will win or lose, they're the chances that you will get sucked out of your money.
What are the TV people saying about the play?
I learned about Flor de Cana from somebody in this group.
If Lance has to go on the DL, it might make sense to let Peacock start and keep McHugh in his role as a dominant late-inning reliever.
We might have a buttwipe for an owner some day too
Finally got to see the Hooks and Whitley. Knew they were basically tied, but didn’t realize it was for the first half title. My observations (apologize for length):
Whitley - listed at 6’7” Thought I read he had a weight problem earlier, but not now.
I was wondering if you had gone to any of the games.
I'm completely flummoxed by the attraction. It wont be in San Antonio for a year and tickets on the resale market are ranging between $375 and $1,100. In San Antonio. A year from now.
I like Stassi’s glove work behind the plate.Radio guys were just commenting on it
This was before the darkest of years, but Wilfredo Rodriguez was supposed to be a witch on the mound. The only pitch I remember him throwing was the meatball to Bonds.
In a move that’s unprecedented, Trump has been interviewing personally the replacement AGs (he fired them all a while ago) for the districts that cover Trump Tower, the Kushners and Mar-a-Lago; i.e. the venues for any criminal actions that could be brought against the inner family circle. Presumably any Trump-approved replacement would not pursue state-level charges against the Trump Crime Family.
Didn't Springer just get 12 per year, and he is twice as valuable as JD.
What I heard at the time was wifey wanted to live in Arizona. Would a longer contract have mattered?
I’m off for a mile run. See you guys in 15 minutes.I'm slow, but I don't know if that counts as running
This should be pinned on the TZ.
This. LMJ could make a pretty nice #3 if this represents a turning of corners.
Correa is a fine player, as is Springer. Bregman turning out as strong as Correa and Springer. Altuve is playing an entirely different game.Correa was having as good a season as Altuve until he got hurt. Still underrated.
In terms of all-around player, how is Altuve not the best Astro ever? It's just longevity at this point (and whether Correa surpasses him)
I've never said shit about Crane, Pappasito.Jokes on you, to me that is the greatest compliment a man can give another man
This has gotten ridiculous (almost as bad as HH's distaste for Correa)...
I remember when people thought Jim Crane was pretty much a fraud and that no big free agents would ever want to play for these clowns.+1
I guess that means if they're fortunate enough to get it to a Game 7, McHugh is your starter.
I really hope Price isn’t available today. Also, I thought they might start Sale, given this being a must-win for them. I’m sure Porcello is on a short leash.

Ever notice how whenever Biz takes his clan to a game shit goes tits up? Wouldn't it be better to just stay home and watch reruns of the Duggars?
Tickets shouldn't be too pricey. Boston fans don't get excited until the ALCS.When do they announce the Sunday game time? Will probably go if day, but night tough

Thinking about trekking up to Boston. Anyone headed up that way?
That's the perfect thing to say to not piss off a woman.
I'm game, but I'm limited mostly to their Veggie #7 enchiladas these days.
You make great points. Yuli's batting order splits are hard to imagine. Hinch bats him 8th because that's by far his best position statistically. If fact, he has an .809 OPS on the season, and his OPS is below .809 when he bats 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th. So his bats 8th OPS (1.121 in 80 PA) is so high, it brings the average above the lowest 5 values in a 6 value** average.
So then your question becomes ... do you want 5 at bats at .770 OPS or 4 at bats at 1.121 OPS? I tend to lean towards the 5 ABs for Gurriel, due to the whole "past performance is not a guarantee of future results", and that his splits will regress to the mean.
**ignores the 1 game he hit 9th
who were we supposedly sending them?
Also, there's a difference between a football game and a snuff film.
And still would be on your bucket list if you had a ticket tonight. Game at Coliseum near USC campus.
You mean the one where Martinez wasn't getting it done in spring training, but the Astros needed a left fielder who could hit too, but Martinez was out of options so he couldn't be sent down until he figured it out or washed out, so they let him go and he went entirely through waivers without getting claimed and he signed with the Tigers and they sent him to the minors where he finally figured it out then recalled him and the rest is history?
A few things. First of all, Biz can't just go claiming every goddamned Polish revolutionary who ever donned a sombrero. He needs to leave some for the rest of us.
I once had a thing with a Chinagerm.
I'm still trying to figure out what a mexipole is.
Have you put any thought into what you're going to name the next one?
Dear god, not another one.
Have you put any thought into what you're going to name the next one?
Has there been any word yet on Flores?
Please sir, I want some more.
Please sir, I want some more.
Do you have them all in one bedroom or do you have a couple of them out in the hall or what's the deal? Also, where the hell do you live? You told me before but I forgot.
This sounds like a good night.

So what are you boys drinking?
So what are you boys drinking?
I think the only remaining question we have is does Biz still go after Kate or what the dilly-o?
Damn. What is it with pitchers and not waiving no trade clauses to play for the Astros? First Hamels, now Verlander. Lunhow did what we all wanted to see, kudos to him for getting the deal done.
His boss, who's been crying poor like he's auditioning for the lead in Oliver Twist. Luhnow may be hoarding prospects to hedge against a possible teardown in a few years. This is especially true after Harvey. Nobody knows yet what that will do to attendance and other revenue.
Right, if they have not been through waivers.
Better BA, right? What is worse?
Over Fisher he is. Is bitching and criticizing the rule here?
At the minimum, he's a better base runner than anyone on the roster.

Think she was more like 35. That's not her though.
Thanks for impugning 7.5 million people with a few keystrokes.
Well, that's a relief. Good to know he's not a racist cumstain or anything.
He referred to the white supremacists as "very fine people." He says many sides but is making it very clear which side he is on.
It's obvious that Peacock is the secret to this offense.
And that's a prerequisite for what exactly?
But what did you say about Stanford psychology graduates? Something about a red flag?
Yeah, that's one reason to think he's an idiot. But only one. No sure being from Oklahoma counts.
Hinch is a miracle worker. I have no idea why anyone would have anything other than the highest praise for what he's done as manager.
I have zero legs to stand on at this site. But I simply dislike piling on players like Sipp. He came out of nowhere and helped the fuck out of this team in a down season and in the playoffs. There's a human element that comments like these ignores and I don't like reading it. It's cheap and unnecessary. The context of Sipps career is worth more than a few jokes before his dream possibly comes to an end. He's never shown a lack of effort or a lack of desire. If a stint on the dl and a "rehab start" are all the Astros have left to offer him, I hope he rises the fuck up again. If he doesn't, thank you Mr. Sipp.
What happened?
Wow. I guess you also consider Correa a malingerer.
Solvent not clinically indicated. Peyote is.
Chad Qualls DFA'd by Colorado after a rocky season.
Goddamn you are an insufferable prick
Did the Astros trade for Vinny Castilla in 2001, or was he a cast off that they picked up? He shored things up for that division winning club.
Obviously not here, but other boards.
Easy there. Great debut, but only one game.
GOD. FUCKING. DAMMIT.
McCullers going on the DL with lower back discomfort.

I.
Fucking.
Hate.
Tony.
Sipp.
Two young players just getting better.
I'm not sure anybody on this team is hitting above their expectations except Marwin.
You must be kidding.
Yes. Just had surgery on thumb.
Weed is a problem downtown as people have become a lot more brazen about smoking in public even though it remains illegal to do so.
I don't like Pence. But I don't think he'll destroy the country and/or world.

"Jeter only led the league in a meaningful category 3x. Runs once, hits 2x. You know who else led the league in hits 2x? Juan Pierre."
Brilliant!
Springer joins in with the festivities with HR #2!
That blows. Curious, why would your tickets not be valid? They are doing it as a single entry double header with the night game, so only tomorrow's tickets valid. Tomorrow night is the Derek Jeter fellatio fest, so it's totally sold out (and StubHub is going for 6x what it was for last night's game). I can trade my tickets for today in for some other Yankee's game I don't give a shit about (pending availability).
All the real foodies are boiling steaks nowadays you know.I rarely cook these days, but I did recently buy a newfangled steak boiler
No 4? Good grief man, how do you afford four kids *and* a cellar full of Barolo? The trick I figured out is to live in Manhattan, it's very affordable
As messy as he was this game, 6 innings and only 2 runs is a pretty good day for Musgrove.
I'll take credit for the McBomb.
I decided to take a drive to drop off my rent and see if I could turn the Astros luck around.
Was that Bregman punchout as bad as it looked from up here in 317?
Hmmm, what do Correa, Altuve, Beltran and Bregman have in common?
You talking about Jumbo or Biz? Because I heard the latter was prolific as well.
Harder to believe you wasted time looking that up.
so long as she had the decorum not to kneel at my table when she took the order.
I'm gonna come to HH's defense here... it wasn't Sandra Lee. I'm nearly positive.

I remember that I liked the fries ok. Not McDonalds quality, but ok.
MM...meet In-N-Out Burger...
Read the rules. sorry
I took my son to see Rogue One this evening and I thought it was fantastic. I do have a couple of questions for the board as some of you have firmer grip on the storyline than myself.
1. What is the timeline from the start of Star Wars through The Return of the Jedi? Are we talking weeks, months, years?
2. The only part of Rogue One that confused me is what is Jimy Smits going to Endor to do and how does that tie into Star Wars, etc.?
He actually did pretty well turning around Tennessee, which is what led USC to hire him away. And he was 28-15 at USC. Not stellar, but not really a "stinky turd" either, especially considering the sanctions he was dealing with from Carroll.
Lane Kiffin will be funnier anyways.
Amazing what happened to the Encarnacion market. Just 3 days ago, the leading teams were supposedly the Astros, Yankees and Blue Jays. And poof all 3 teams went elsewhere. Mr. Kinzer may have waited too long.
From what I hear indirectly from inside sources, this did not go down as advertised. I think Charlie should have done better at game management (and thus W-L record), but I also think he got shafted on this and should have been given a 4th year. It also looks to me like Herman's real skills lie in manipulative negotiating tactics. On the field as a coach, it looks to me like he is a risk-taker that results in some unexpected wins and some unexpected losses. We'll see how that goes down in a couple of years.
I'm a little sad about Castro. This contract with the Twins could be his last, certainly his next-to-last. He's handled pitchers well, and seemed like a solid person. He and his family had a baby the same day we did earlier this year, so that's always felt like...something. I'm glad that we're no longer in a place where he's the best and oldest player on the team.
While prosecutors in the Dominican Republic have yet to press charges for the alleged assault, they told the court they intend to charge at least four players who held down a teammate and masturbated him, sources told Yahoo Sports.
Among those expected to be charged are the younger brother of Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor, also named Rougned
I'm afraid the bitching will continue, because the attributes that would make announcers popular around here - baseball knowledge, brevity, focus on the game, Astros-centric in a non-company-line way - are probably not the attributes the Astros will be seeking. I suspect Reid will find a couple of guys well-versed in pop culture who will be loved by millenials.
I'm not sure what to think about Blum. I thought he was very good when working with Brown, but I got the impression he enjoyed it a lot more when he could wander off into goofy-land with Ashby. I suppose the fact that Geoff wasn't jettisoned with Ashby is a good sign if he wants to stay.
It's intriguing that this is your summary of the complaints from this site. If these two pop culture loving announcers to be named later actually watch the game in front of them and make mildly relevant comments about it, they will be light years ahead of Ashby.
That's not how probability works.

A lot of my joy was killed in the top of ninth on Tuesday night but you're saying there's a chance.
Some sloppy reporting either way seems to me.
Yes...pitches that bounce in front of the plate are wild pitches.
Jesus, Gattis forgot how to catch suddenly this inning.
From what I've read, he lacks some intensity in his defense.
You could not be more right and wrong at the same time.
I think we figured out this team is not dependent on HH's travel schedule... It seemed to be at first but then he was around for the Toronto and St. Louis games... I think (I promise I'm not a stalker - just have a weird memory)
I figured that too, though you realize I'm in Sumatra right now, correct?
I'm going to miss the hill.
