Talk Zone / Good Ole JR (not Richards)
« on: March 23, 2019, 11:41:38 am »
This place is interesting. As an out of towner I was thrilled to find a really smart Astros baseball community.
Until I had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with good ole Jim R - the proverbial internet tough guy.

JR decides who has the right to speak her. He demands credentials. He needs posts to be appropriately worded.
He doesn't need anyone else to contribute. He is MR CONTRIBUTOR.

I had this crazy ass notion that being the fan of the same team made it OK for 'outsiders' to post here.

But no, good ole JR just wants to play a colossal game of dick out deciding who gets to talk Astros baseball and who doesn't.

So when I mention at 10pm at night that I saw Verlander was in final stages of contract negotiation, and I look at the headlines and don't see it
mentioned, I figured what the hell, no one could possibly find fault with me sharing that insight.

Wrong.

Good ole JR decided that he had to attack even that innocuous post. Personally.

You guys have a helluva website. And I know you are a tight knit community, so leaving this here isn't going to make any friends.

But it truly sucks that one tired, bitter old man can spew his shit with immunity.

Good Ole JR, kiss my internet loving As-tros. goodnight.

McHugh with a stiff back. Devo ineffective. James with quad(?).

Is it too soon to hit the 'must resign DK' button while still available?

Asking for a friend.

Musgrove and Hoyt still look very promotable to me, as are Bregman, Tucker, White, Kemp and assumedly Gurriel. The more I look at our AAA and AA affiliates, the less I feel the need to trade for others stars. In fact, Astros may 'need' to move guys like Gomez and Valbuena and potentially Fiers/Feldman to make room for the kids below. Risky during a pennant chase, particularly since White, Reed and Moran have been less than good in their first big league tests, but its a risk I would be willing to take.

Sounds like Singleton, Moran, Tucker, Gomez, Feldman, Neshek, Fields ... lots of trade options ... though not sure those are the right pieces to pull off a front end of the rotation type of pitcher.

Is having a pretty remarkable season in Fresno. He's 31 years old.  Is there any chance he contributes at the major league level?

What about Bregman/Tucker in LF, Rasmus/Mrasnick in CF and Springer in RF for the remainder of this season.

GoGo gets moved for minor league talent.

Leave the 3B/1B platoon in place (Valbuena/Gonzales/Reed) this season with longer term decisions to be made based on
2nd half of 2016 play?

I'll play:

CF  Paredes
2B  Altuve
SS  Lowrie
1B  Singleton (desperation mothers invention)
3B  Wallace
RF  Bogusevic
C   Castro
LF  JD Martinez
DH Moore/Barnes

UT Gonzalez
UT Downs

SP Norris, Harrell, Lyles, Cosart, FA
RP Lopez + ?

Going to be very hard to win 60 if this is the crew.

Talk Zone / It's the first time ever I just feel bad for the team
« on: August 01, 2012, 07:14:50 pm »
I've been an Astro fan since I could breathe.  Or think.  Put that in the vicinity of 45 years.

There have been a few great years. A number of good years. An equal number of bad years. But in all the years I have followed this team there has never been a year that could be characterized simply as sad.

I feel badly for Brad Mills. He has potentially 2 MLB ready starting pitchers, 1 legitimate bullpen pitcher, possibly 3 position players who will be with the team in 2 years. In short, he has absolutely no way to compete.

I feel badly for the players. Schaefers 100 strikeouts, 220 batting average, inability to make contact. Bogie's continual rolling over on ground ball after ground ball to the 2b. JDs inability to hit a breaking pitch of any variety. And on and on and on. Great effort. Skills that just aren't at the major league level.

I feel badly for the announcers. Badly for the fans. Badly for the season ticket holders.  It is a monumental disaster and while I want to blindly believe in the Luhnow dump, 45 years tells me that prospects rarely turn into players ... thus 5 for 1 and hope that 1 of the 5 pans out.

While I have read this site for years, I never chose to register to play. But somehow this is one of those disasters that require participation in a community. I didn't come here to bury this team ... I came to mourn it.

Let them rest in peace.
