I still remember in '86 when we clinched with the mike scott no hitter... "Shit - I lost my contact!" during the post-game celebration.  I was 10 years old and thought it was the most hilarious thing ever.

Yes it was! On both counts.

I just about high-fived my tv set when I heard him say that. Lidge was bursting with joy. His sheepish grin after letting the bomb drop said it best.

Because it is *live* television, the FCC usually gives a little grace to the networks.  They have a certain amount of money set aside any way for fines due to *live* sports broadcasting though... ahum... I think.

Which is great, because we've been waiting for the *right* nickname to come along.  Anything is better than that "lights out" moniker.  Of course, I still love the "looks like a baby giraffe trying to field a ground ball" gloss that Berkman laid on him.  Couldn't figure out a way to shorten it though into a good nickname.

Now we have it: Lidge The Profane!

RTF nerd here.  Technically, the FCC has no jurisdiction over cable TV.  It is handled by each station..."Standards and Practices" define what is acceptable and what is not on each station.  So....no need to worry about FCC fines.

Thanks for the definitive proof.  My poor mother (who hates cursing in all it's forms) refused to believe that one of her precious boys would drop an f-bomb on live TV.  Funny to see Brad trying to backtrack while looking as embarrassed as hell.  I also imagine it's the last time he gets asked to do a post game interview for a while too.
