Title: Spring Training
Post by: JaneDoe on November 30, 2006, 09:31:42 pm
I may remember this wrong, but at one time didn't the Astros play their last spring training games at Minute Maid against the Round Rock Express?  Why the K C Royals again this upcoming spring training instead?  I'd rather see them play the Express.  I don't get a chance to see the AAA team like many of you guys do, and I would think that would be a better draw than the Royals.

KC owner David Glass is Drayton McLane's bestest friend.  They first met at Wal-Mart, I am pretty sure.

The Astros come to the Dell Diamond on March 29th to play the Express  before returning to Minute Maid for the KC exibition.  You (and all) should seriously consider the short jaunt to Austin/RR from Houston for this.  Seems like they're doing it every other year now.  Would be a good opportunity for a pre-season OWA convergence.

Here's the  schedule in case anyone is interested.

Do the Yankees usually go to Osceola?

Not regularly but they have. Also not done much is the Astros spending that much time in the Tampa Bay area. TOR, TB, PHI and NYY are all within easy driving distance for me. Yahoo!

You coming to FLA this year?

Didn't the Astros occasionally play the Rangers at the end of Spring Training?  I have been reading "The Bad Guys Won" (basically US Weekly for baseball fans, but a quick read) and it reminded me of Doc Gooden starting a game for the astros towards the end of ST in MMPUS. Strange times. I think he lasted maybe 3 more days.

Sounds like you are volunteering to coordinate this pre-season OWA convergence?????

I'll email you.  Did you realize the Stars are playing the Lightening on the 27th of February?

IIRC, wasn't that the very first game at MMP?

Yup, it was. I was down about 3 rows from the field, just off the 1B camera well. Bright as all get-out, but not hot. Great day for a sunburn, and possibly the weirdest choice of "venue debut" pitchers possible, for a franchise which had just left the Astrodome. Gooden? Geez.
