Just 1 1/2 back of St. Louis.

If the Astros go 5-0 to finish out, the Cardinals have to go 5-1 or better in their final 6 games to avoid having to fly to Houston for a 1 game playoff.

Is it just me, or does it look doubtful that this Cardinals team has a 5-1 stretch in them?

So it comes down to this for me ... the Astros will have to lose at least one more game before their season ends.  Kind of controlling their own destiny, although not technically.

Tonight was the Cards' best chance for a win.  La Genius left a struggling Carp in too long - probably because his bullpen blows in all senses of the word.  The Pads have their tails up, and the "on-paper" advantage in starting pitching tomorrow.  Maybe the Jake bats go berserk, but they must be absolutely crushed right now.

I would be nice if the Stros can jump on Chacon early tomorrow, so that when the Jakes hit the field there's no doubt that the 'Stros are going to post another W.

Garner said they needed to get back to .500, and then they'd start thinking about a playoff run.

I'm beginning to believe that perhaps Mr. Garner really does know more about baseball than I do.

Agreed on all points.  I had the same feeling about the Berkman-Carpenter game last week.  LaRussa thought Carp was his best option.

Why LaRussa decided to not intentionally walk Berkman in that at bat to face the 0-for-3 (and soon to be 0-for-4) Luke Scott is another question.

Not to mention starting a thread for every nuance he/she may think is worthy of mentioning.  I did notice how easily the "the Astros go 5-0" rolled off his keyboard.

Some people will never learn to keep the taunts to themselves I guess.  They usually learn when the BBG's kick them in the groin.

Lessen learned.  No more taunting or extraneous thread starting.  Thanks for setting me straight.
