Does anybody OUTSIDE of New England give any merit to this talk, including Roger and his agents? Does anybody OUTSIDE of New England even think this is worth lip service(remember that ESPN's national headquarters are in Conn)?

Roger might have an ego the size of texas, but he is smart enough to know that his days of pitching successfully in the American League East are behind him. Roger uses the soft underbelly that is 7,8 and 9 of every national league lineup to his advantage. He would average about 4.5 innings a start against AL lineups, and his era would go up. I don't see any way he doesn't pitch in H-town next year if he is to pitch (and I believe he will).

A friend of Clemens's reminded me the other day that a deal with the Red Sox at the trading deadline was very close to happening, only to be squashed by Astros owner Drayton McLane. The friend said, ``Roger would have loved to have come to Boston, but it wasn't something he could have campaigned for because Houston is his hometown. If he had come, you wonder if the Red Sox would have stayed in it for at least a longer period of time.
``There are a lot of people around him who want him to go to Boston and really finish it up next year -- even if he goes for a couple of months, like he did this year. None of us think the Astros are going to want to pay him the big money they did this season, even though he's still one of the top five pitchers in the National League."

"Friends of Clemens", Clemens wanted to come to Boston but the hick owner of the Astros wouldn't let him, Boston would have made the playoffs but the Astros have no chance. Ending a career in Houston isn't note worthy at all. Boston would pay big money but the chintzy Astros wont. In spite of the fact that they broke their own record for the largest contract EVER for a pitcher this season. A record they set last season. For the same damn pitcher. Yeah, but no chance they'll do it 3 times. Bet. Me. If Clemens had wanted to sign with Boston he could have signed with Boston. Big Meany Mclane would have had no say in the matter.

Correct. 2 & 3 to be pithed by Andy and probably Sampson. If things pan out, Roy's available for the playoff with the Jakes, then Rocket if the playoffs continue for the Stros.
