Title: The Justice League
Post by: Bench on September 19, 2006, 06:46:24 pm
Looks like Richard can invite a real person to his tea party... his good buddy  Jay Mariotti:

Quote:

This won't be found in any Elias Sports Bureau statistical package, but on June 20, the night Ozzie Guillen called me ''a [bleeping] fag,'' the Sox were 45-25. Since then, they are a sloppy 39-41 and looking like they intend to uphold a lame franchise tradition: No back-to-back postseason appearances.

Cause it's all about the reporter.  I think Mariotti sits right next to Polly.

Wow. That's got to rank up there with the whiniest columns I've ever read. Maybe the Sun-Times should consider putting him on a different beat, because it doesn't sound like he's ever going to be able to cover his story objectively.

Ironic that he leads with biting butt cheeks and happily punching groins, NTTAWWT.

He may want to watch his step around Harrelson, too, after that "team mascot" remark.

Holy Mother of God.  They win the freaking World Series last year, for the first time since Great Grandpa was a lad, and this is what they get?

Hawk isn't known for a non-violent approach to problem-solving, is he? Was it Scraps who got into it with Hawk?

Pinwheel needs all the tea party friends he can get, what with Alyson Footer, of the Reality Based Footers, shooing the kids out to play in the backyard

From one of Justice's recent columns (not linking, it's bad form but these things squat on the Chrons website, you could find it if you wanted.)

"...it's fair to ask who will be making those decisions. Does Drayton McLane trust Tim Purpura?  At the moment, it seems he doesn't. McLane said recently that baseball decisions are made by a committee of executives including Purpura, Tal Smith and the staff."

Footer pointedly notes,

"The Astros brain trust -- Purpura, president Tal Smith, owner Drayton McLane and manager Phil Garner -- met for approximately 2 1/2 hours on Tuesday.

Garner described the meetings as "routine," as it is standard procedure for all teams to gather toward the end of the season to discuss the state of the organization."

Dick J was on 610 this morning.  I didn't listen long but he said that Biggio has lost respect in the clubhouse, and is now seen as a guy who's just "hanging on."

He deftly managed to avoid saying whether or not they should get rid of Biggio.  I imagine he's got 3 or 4 columns worked up in his head on both sides of the issue...

Just more made up bullshit.  Biggio has never been terribly "well-liked" in the club house, but he has always been well thought of.  I would seriously doubt anoyone not named Chris Burke has a problem with Biggio being on the team.

Aside from the fact that this thread is about Justice and not the quote itself, if the teammates DID feel this way, what about it would be incorrect?

Look, I'd love to see Craig hit 3,000 in an Astros uniform as much as anyone (and that's true), but Craig Biggio's not exactly helping this team either in the lineup or in the field.

Once Biggio steps down, where will Justice try to drive his wedge next?  Or is he already setting the stage for that with his Purpura vs McLane insinuations?
