Title: What is to become of Lidge?

His nearly season long nightmare of ineffectiveness seeems to show no signs of abatement.

His trade value must be at or near its low. His contract is fairly substantial (just under $4 million this season, I'm not sure of the escalation for next year).

My guess is that they will give him every opportunity to get right in 2007. If he's not back to being a major league closer caliber pitcher by around the All-Star break, then I believe that the Astros will trade him for anything they can and probably eat a large portion of his salary. By then they will want the roster spot for someone else.

Are you fucking kidding?  The words Lidge, Astros, and 2007 should never be used in the same sentence again.  He had "every opportunity" to get right in 2006.

Are you fucking kidding?  The words Lidge, Astros, and 2007 should never be used in the same sentence again.  He had "every opportunity" to get right in 2006.



So, do you think that the Astros management will trade him in the off-season (for whom or what, I cannot imagine) and absorb most of his $4 million plus salary, or do you think that the Astros management will release him outright and absorb all of his $4 million plus salary?

I don't think Lidge is under contract for next season, he's still under club control. If the club wants to just get rid of him with nothing in return, they can simply non-tender him.

I think you're right.  My guess is he'll be traded to a team like the Rays or the Royals, who don't expect to win next year and who think they can fix him with a change of scenery.  And maybe they can.

I suspect that if he is dealt he'll be part of a multi-player deal.

I see now that is correct The Link I had thought that it was a two or three year deal.

Management may non tender, or perhaps some club thinks they can rehabilitate him and the Astros will get something in return.

per usual he will go to another team.. get his shit together and bite the astros in the booty
after all that has failed with that man in an astros uniform i can not see ohw it wouldnot be a win win situation to send him packing
