The Astros proved on Sunday that they can beat the Mess if they just catch the ball. Hitting the ball is optional.
The difference between Roy and those other pitchers is that Roy makes 2 runs look good. Of course, he?s in the last suit he?ll ever wear.
The Team missed a chance to score in the 2nd. Huff got the only Astros hit of the game, ceremonial mostly, but it did lead to a runner on 3rd situation with no outs, and eventually bases loaded 2 outs, but no one scored.
Nonetheless the Astros did make good use of the 8 ensbergs the Hernandez twins issued.
Bases loaded, on walks and an HBP, one out in the 6th, Everett lined a bunt between 3rd and pitcher to score the run. Then in the 7th, Taveras walked, stole second, advanced to 3rd on a Biggio bunt that was rolling foul as the 1b was picking it up. Lane, pinch hitting, then cracked a long fly into right center that Chavez ran down. The offense was rolling now.
Roy Oswalt meanwhile had a no-hitter through the 1st batter in the 7th. Reyes topped a roller to short, Everett couldn?t make the bare hand pick and a single was recorded.
In the 8th, a single and double punched Sparky?s ticket. He left to a standing ovation from the large crowd. Qualls ended the inning with a groundout.
The 9th was Lidge. Delgado unloaded on a hanging slider for a homer off the fa?ade in left. But the game ended on a groundout up the middle, Barbarossa, in for Biggio, made a nice play to nip Sean Green.
Monday, we go at 2:00 CDT, Clemens.
