Title: 'Stros continue thumpin 9-3 over Snakes
Post by: pravata on August 06, 2006, 01:57:44 am
The homerun barrage continues.  Ausmus? 2nd homerun of the season was a grand slam in the 2nd to give Clemens the early lead.  The dugout gave him the No Big Deal treatment, and so will we.  Ausmus, homered? Grand slam you say? Yeah, that?ll happen.

Scott added a 2 run shot in the 3rd.  During Scott?s atbat, JD was making the comment, in regard the increased offense ?Astros may be ready to make a move here?. Wham, Hobbs puts one in the pool.  Hobbs had 4 hits and played an unstressful left field, but maybe a little deep.  He looks to get more time. Huff also homered in the 5th.  He got another RBI on a single to add to his Hat Trick.

Clemens went 7.   A good number of the Diamondback's hits were the drop in kind, but he didn?t seem as sharp as he has been, or maybe he was challenging the hitters more.  He got a little help with a couple running catches by Taveras and Scott.

Nieve and Borkowski made sure there was no repeat of Clemens' last outing.  They worked 2 efficient innings, although Borkowski had to have the mound pointed out to him.

The D'Backs rookie pitcher looked decent as the fill in for Webb, who's injured.  Boo freakin hoo.  The little Nippert recorded 6 Ks in 5 innings, including Berkman and Huff twice.  But the Astros avoided their who's this guy? syndrome.  Nippert's control was his undoing, especially in the 2nd when he got behind Ausmus and hung the curve.  And that was despite the homeplate ump Onora being more lenient on corner calls than Crawford was last night.  I appreciated it, the game was about an hour shorter.

In the first Biggio satisfied our slavering fascination for numbers that end in two zeros.  He got an infield hit, driving the shortstop deep in the hole, bringing his hit total to 2900.   That?s lifetime.   Just think how exciting the hit he gets that will give him a total ending in 3 zeros will be.

Day game tomorrow, Pettitte v Vargas, 3:40 CDT.
