Title: Astros FAs?
Post by: Alkie on July 30, 2006, 07:12:27 pm
Anyone have a list handy of the Astros that will be FAs at the end of the year?

Wilson (no chance that option gets picked up)
Pettitte
Clemens
Springer
Huff
Biggio (i think; he'll be resigned either way)

Aside from that I believe Munson will be arbitration eligible. With Gimenez, House, Quintero, etc. he might be a non-tender candidate. I'm not sure about Borkowski's contract situation either.

Basically, everyone except Berkman, Ausmus and Palmeiro. Several others are under club control, however.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever felt this way...but I'll be somewhat disappointed if we go get Soriano or Tejada.

Back to the original point, we're NOT Tejada or Soriano away from the playoffs and it just seems so obvious that we should be selling.

Ask yourself this, though. If they picked up Tejada or Soriano and knew they could keep him around for a while, would that not be a pretty good core to build around with Berkman offensively? It's highly likely that they're going to have to acquire some hitters this offseason anyway.

Oh well, obviously.  It just seemed like it was basically a given that Soriano or Tejada would end up being rentals and nothing more.

If we're getting either/or long-term, that's great.
