Nice interview by David Barron in the Chronicle with Mr. Elston. Gene's going in the Hall today--what a pro he was. Salud!

Agreed. I have many fond memeries growing up of listening to Gino doing the radio games.
Interesting that Barron didn't ask him about Milo.

Also real interesting to read Elston's comments about Carey, which are just a wee bit different than Milo's.

What a class act. I remember my first year of following the Astros in 69. It was really their first good season and they were in the division race until a couple of weeks were remaining. Gene Elston's broadcasting brought those games to life for me.
I had the chance to meet him in 1985 and found he was just as great a guy in person as you would expect.

I had the same thought. I wonder why Elston's feelings about Milo weren't published...

Just a nit, but it's one the HOF picks, so....Elston is receiving the Frick Award today. He's not going in the Hall of Fame.

Barron may have not asked Elston about Milo knowing it was a sore subject. I wondered if he built up Carey just to prick Milo. Or maybe I'm reading way too much into it.
