Isn't it great to have Willy getting his singles leading off and putting pressure on the pitcher and stealing bases rather than have him playing station to station in front of Berkman. And Biggio gets to do his thing by hitting doubles and driving someone in while getting good counts form pitchouts and fastballs b/c of Taveras/Berkman. Don't know why we had to wait for Berkman and Ensberg to quit hitting homers every game to make the change, but hooray for it being made finally.

That's as easy as 3-2-1. OBP, that is.

I'll just stick my little rant here in the absence of a gamezone...
gNats color guy (Paciorek?) gives this gem in the top of the 6th... "I don't understand what the big deal about the emergency catcher is. I mean, I wouldn't worry about until I got in that situation. I mean, any of those bench guys could go out there and catch an inning or two, its not that hard. Its just catching the ball..."
Now, this is after they have been carrying on about the absence of Schneider and the poor play of the guy filling in tonight. Do these guys even hear themselves talk?

Wiki Gonzalez looks like he's waiting for a bus back there.

Yes, but he makes a damn fine encyclopedia.

Why is Mansolino sending Biggio for a close play (probable collision) up 9-3 in the top of the ninth? Seems like he was asking for trouble.

I never questioned that call, not that it would matter if I did. A 6-run lead is not a slam dunk.

I was surprised to see that, too, and cringed when I saw Biggio have a rough slide into Wiki, or whatever his name is.

I assume he's talking about a 3rd catcher?

Right. Apparently Chris Burke is the Astros' emergency option... according to the gNats color guy.

I thought Lamb was the emergency catcher. Maybe Burke is the small backup emergency catcher.

The color guy, whatever his name is, also said (during the near disatrous IBB by Eischen in the 8th or 9th) "It might suprise you, but you can't position a backup behind the catcher... ya know during an intentional walk. I know because I tried it one time in the minor leagues and the umpire told me to get back to my position. I guess there is a rule or something..." To which the PBP guy says "Maybe only the catcher can lineup in foul territory?" to which the color guy says "Yeah, hmm, maybe, never thought of that." With that said, it wouldn't suprise me if he was talking out of his ass about Burke.

I think Bruntlett is the emergency catcher.

You should have called the clubhouse and told Garner to do it four weeks ago. Being proactive is the key. We all know that when the Astros were winning at a .700 clip it was in spite of the screwed up batting order.

The fundamental lack of knowledge of the rules of the game is amazing.
