Other than Wilson or Lane, these aren't unjustifiable votes.

Isn't Garner the NL all star manager this year? How many players can he pick and choose from after the voting is done. Can he only select pitchers?

They have write-in votes, so you can vote for Burke.

I think you're right. This is the first time I've thought of that point. It'll be interesting to see who he selects. If the mgr. just selected pitchers, who selects bench position players?
-
IIRC, Garner can select all bench positions and pitchers, with the approval of the NL office. One roster slot is reserved for the final vote in, remember last year?
Watching the Reds this weekend, I know who I wouldn't vote for, and that's Adam Dunn. He has to be the slowest player in the league, no range at all in left and a base clogger. I wasn't aware he was THAT slow. Dude can mash, but damn.

Burke will be there, sitting in Neil's Luxury Box.

Actually, I think last year they changed the rule so that some of the bench spots are voted on by the players, rather than the manager unilaterally selecting them.

The Link
Yes, the players vote and their top picks not selected by the fans are on the team. The manager then fills out the roster before the final fan vote. Of course, there is always the injury replacement selections.
-
They also have that Ameriquest Really Really Last Chance Vote thing, which is how Roy got in last year.
-
You're correct, I had forgot that players voted now too.
