So what happened? Anything good?

I was distracted while trying to listen. I did hear Dierk say he'd be playing Burke at second.
-
take that, Biggio. that will teach you for causing trouble in the dugout!

I've already heard grumblings about playing Burke over Lane. My response? "Heelloooooo....pitching!"
-
I have heard (On 610 for what that is worth) that Burke would/should be replacing Preston.

Exactly what I thought at the time. Dierker said that the Astros have a "situation" with Biggio. Didnt elaborate.

Sure, because of the strikeouts. I'm sure that situation is quite a surprise to the Astros.

he's just licking the wounds to his gargantuan ego. Biggio was an indirect cause of his getting fired.

"Let him grab a bat..." - Craig Biggio.

Wasn't that GasCan?

It was, when Dierker questioned the manliness of his fastballs.
-
Was the Dierker/Biggio situation one where Dierker was questioning Biggio's on-field performance, or was it a "who's really running the team?" type of thing?

They were always manly. I don't know how anyone could ever question that Wagner's fastballs were extremely straight.

OK... so far, Burke should be starting over Biggio, Lane and Wilson. That's pretty good. I'm guessing that if Taveras or The Field General has a couple of tough weeks with the stick in the near future, we'll get at least one solid talk radio suggestion of Burke starting over them, too. Which would mean that there are people in the world who legitimately believe that Burke should be starting in lieu of half of the lineup. That's damn impressive. I hope one of those people winds up being another GM with some pitching to spare.

I'd like to respect Dierker and what he did as a manager of the Astros. However, in his book and in his work covering the Astros, he repeatedly makes pussified, back-biting, bitch-boy type comments. He's got to let got of whatever is crawling up his rectum because he's just making himself look bad.
I don't mean to exonerate or portray Biggio (or anyone involved in pro sports) as a saint. But for fuck's sake, get over it...
Sadly, from everything that's been communicated about Dierker (edited to clarify) on this site, that seems unlikely to happen.

But isn't talk radio where Purp gets his ideas from? I have to admit, I often find myself yelling at the idiots that call in, but I keep listening.

In 2000 he lost velocity, that was before he had the surgery. 99 mph and straight will get people out, 94 and straight will go out.

I believe so, yes. At the very least, it's where he goes to find out whether or not he's being active enough as a GM, because his transaction frequency meter is all out of whack.
I'm just thankful that in Austin, the amount of air wasted on retooling the Astros lineup is pretty minimal. All of that energy used to be devoted to suggestions of ways in which Mack Brown has failed us all. Now, even that's pretty indefensible, so I'm not entirely sure what people are bitching about these days.

Hardly get any Astros, it is 99% Reggie/Vince/?. It has been that way for 3 months and will continue even after next Saturdays draft. The only time we get decent baseball talk is during the Kevin Bass hour.

Yes, Waggs used the same quote later. But Biggio was irked when Dierker, in his usual no-holds barred conversation with the media (talking to them like a fellow commentator instead of a manager of the team), opined one getaway night when the Astros lost that Biggio had a less than major league AB to make the last out. Biggio and Dierk had it out on the plane ride to the next destination. Biggio apparently said in that discourse "If you think you can do better... then grab a bat...."
You think Waggs is an original thinker? Pah-leeze!

BTW, here is a story that Kevin had about Niekro that I found humorous. They (Bass and the radio jocks) were talking about guys that smoked heaters (cigs) during innings. He said the Niekro would smoke a sig and drink a coke on the steps that lead from the dugout to the club house during each inning. When it was time to return to the field, Joe would dash the smoke and pour a circle around it using the coke. He would do this on a different step each inning. Bass said it was pretty funny after the game to come down the steps and see seven/eight dashed cigs with a coke ring around them.

Kevin Bass has a show? Holy shit, that's awesome. Does his mustache co-host, or did they part ways amicably after his playing days were over?
-
A regular guest appearance. If you have not heard it, it is very entertaining. I am sure you can listen over the net, though I have not done so.

On a related note... Bochy has gone goatee, which disqualifies him as the title-holder for "best 'stache in MLB." As the perennial runner-up, Scrap Iron now assumes the crown.
-
Another comment a few weeks ago that was funny. They were talking about pitchers that cheat. Radio J. asked about Maddox, and Bass said he thought that he was cheating as much as he touched himself. Then RJ asked about Scott cheating, and all Kevin said is that they use to laugh their asses off in the dugout.

It's ridiculous, but that's honestly the best news I've gotten this week. Didn't we all have this discussion last year? I don't even remember where I came out on it, but I'm just thrilled that Garner's soup strainer is on top where it belongs.
(edit)
Oh yeah, it started here and meandered around for a while. Thanks again for the update, it's actually making the clouds break up outside my window...
