OK, it's Friday and the girls in All-Star Pitcher arrested/Hotties from the 60's thread have been exhausted. So, you. You're asleep and dreaming you have tickets to a Friday thru Sunday series that will feature the Astros from the past/present that you have always dreamed of seeing play in thier prime. Name your rotation, set your line up and choose your beer. Doesn't have to be greatest ever just your personal choices.
I've got-
Friday Night- Dierker
Saturday Night- JR
Sunday Afternoon- Nolan
Closer- Wagner
C: Biggio
1B: Bagwell
2B: Doran
SS: Thon
3B: Radar
LF: Cruz
CF Cedeno C.
RF: Bass
Beer: Michelada with a Negro Modelo.
-
I never saw Dierker or Radar play, and that, in and of itself makes me want to agree with you on those picks. That said, I'd rather plug in Scott and Cammy for my 3 game series.
As far as beer...well, since we're talking about primes, how about the beer I drank in my prime? I'll go with "The Highlife"...with a few Natural Light Ice's thrown into the mix.
-
I'll admit that I'm biased towards guys I've actually seen play, so no Radar, Wynn or Dierker on my list.
Friday Night - JR
Saturday Night - Mike Scott
Sunday afternoon - Roy O
Closer - Lidge
C - Ashby
1B - Bagwell
2B - Biggio
3B - Caminiti
SS - Thon
RF - M. Alou
CF - Cedeno
LF - Berkman
Beer: Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
-

-
What, no *Jesus* Alou?
Guinness.
-
I agree with Jim's lineup...except I'd have Don Wilson instead of Andy Pettitte.

There is something sickly fascinating about seeing the 19 to 20 yr old version of Larry Dierker. I just can't decide which game I would choose.
June 14, 1966: 19 year old Dierker outdueling Hall-of-Famer Sandy Koufax, winning 3-0 on five hits over the Dodgers.
September 30, 1966: 20 year old version taking a perfect game into the ninth inning against the Mets, only to loose 1-0. IIRC, would have made him the youngest MLB player to pitch a perfect game.
July 09 1976: Dierker tosses fifth no-hitter in franchise history, to blank the Expos 6-0 .
I think option two. Near perfection at age 20. Like an operatic Italian tragedy, with no run support.
-
If we are going for prime. I would love to see this.
Tony Pena C
Jeff Bagwell 1B
Joe Morgan 2B
Dickie Thon SS
Ken Caminiti 3B
Jose Cruz OF
Richard Hidalgo OF
Jim Wynn OF
J.R. Richard P
Roy Oswalt P
Roger Clemens P
Brad Lidge P

-
Great lineup Jim.
You could also have fun developing a dis-astro lineup. Redding, Lugo, Merced, Chen, Micelli....etc. Include some refreshing Keystone Light....
-
disagree that Micelli was "disastrous." he pitched the Astros into the playoffs that year.
-
1B - Bagwell
2B - Biggio
3B - Caminitti
SS - Everett
OF - Beltran
OF - Alou
OF - Hidalgo
C - Ausmus
P - Kile
P - Oswalt
P - Ryan

Shiner 96.
A particularly good year. The long spring greatly enhanced the toxins...errr....tannins.

The cool thing about this choice is that you wouldn't need a time machine for the balance of the team. Just give him the 2005 offense.

"Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution."

Tried to edit this but time has expired. For the record, this was not a dig at UTL. Just me being in a funky mood.
Also, FTR, I think jokes about Clinton are entirely deserved. I like to think that I'm an equal opportunity wiseass.

Jim Clancy demands the right to give up 14 runs in one inning to the Reds one more time.

glad to see someone's list had Spier coming off the bench.
