I think it would be a productive move to trade Lidge. Closers get way too much on the market and Purpura should take advantage. There are plenty of instances of relative nobodies stepping into a closer's role (Turnbow, T. Jones, Fuentes, etc), and I think Wheeler or Qualls could fill it with relative success, while improving the club. There has to be at least one team out there that will overpay for Lidge, like Toronto overpayed for Ryan and the Mets overpayed for Billy Wags. Here are some possiblities that could work.
To Baltimore with a package for Tejada. (Unlikely)
To Atlanta for McCann, Joey Devine, and maybe another prospect.
To Texas for Frank Fransico, Kevin Mench, and possibly a prospect (Cordero may be in way)
To Milwauke for either Capuano or Doug Davis
and Dan Kolb
To Philly for Pat Burell and a prospect
To Cleavland with Adam Everett for Johnny Peralta and maybe a prospect.
To Chicago White Sox for Garland
To Chicago Cubs for Angel Guzman and Cory Patterson
out.

welcome to the tz.
most sound good except dont think dan Kolb would be that great and Patterson has tore up the astros way to many times for me to have anything but ill feelings for him.sometimes it is the intangibles not just the money . I think Lidge does and should stay

I find it inneressing that Chad Qualls wants to trade Brad Lidge.
Anyway, wasn't Dan Kolb in Atlanta last year, and was so bad the the Bravos benched him in favor of no closer?

Most of his trade proposals were horrible. And that is being kind. Brad Lidge is the best closer in the NL, and he wants to trade him for slightly above average players and prospects. Yippee, count me out.
I might consider the Philly and Cleveland proposals. Outside of those I am unimpressed. Sorry, but Garland has to have another great year for me to do that, and like he said, the Tejada deal isn't really feasible.

Good Lord, those are horrible trade ideas.

Have you ever actually seen a MLB trade? All of those you suggest are either bad for the Astros (i.e. not getting enough in return for Lidge), bad for the other team (no way they'd do the deal), or both. Please read Stark's column and try to stay away from the MLB GM applications.
