I'd sit Willy Taveras. Seriously.

Not a bad idea at all. Willy can come in later once Burke has gone 3-5 with a homer and 3 ribs.

As a pinch runner.

Burke sucks just a tad as a left fielder, but as a centerfielder he's decent. The Jakes don't have guys who hit and run the bases like jackrabbits (See: Marlins, Florida), they're mashers. So having Chris in center is an idea to think about. Burke hitting second between Bidge and Berkman will get him some fastballs to hit. And Lamb gets to play too.
Willy will have to be a pinch runner and defensive replacement for now.

Willy....the guy with a couple of hits tonight?
He got burned once, but he made at least one nice catch tonight and he can play CF in MMPUS prettywell, if his performance there lately has been any indication.
Burke has a nice run going, but I don't think Willy has completely earned a bench spot.
-
I think Willy needs to be in CF in MMPUS. Maybe on the road (if it gets back on the road)...

Burke. En. Fuego. 'nuff said.

The Astros are actually creating scoring chances against the Jakes (Carpenter was not as sharp as people think last night). They were 0-17 with RISP... before Burke got them off that snide. Last night, he hit a pinch hit homerun to open up the scoring for Houston. He has scored three runs already. He has three rbis.
Taveras, even with his 2-4, could've easily gone 0-4 if the Jakee defense was similar tonight as it was last night. And Willy came up again with a chance to drive in a run and like in the NLDS, he just doesn't seem to get it done... right now.

Lane has been a glacier, though, aside from his defense. I am not sure Burke doesn't make that same catch tonight, only on his feet.
Yeah, I could be really wrong going against your better knowledge, Noe, but Willy did OK tonight. Caught stealing, yeah, but proabably as close as anyone has come against Mulder-Molina this year.
I'm more worried about the Mo-Lane slump going on right now.

Mo and Lane are guys who have been in run producers situations all season long. They both just need to keep on hacking away and eventually good things will happen for them. BTW - Ensberg closed his stance again, really stupid idea to start jacking with his mechanics now, boy he can be frustrating when he screws with his stance sometimes. But I digress.
My complaint about Taveras goes back to the NLDS and also the last two weeks of the season. He isn't finding himself at the 2 hole and with this team, a run scoring opportunity is golden. Burke has magically turned into Terry Puhl-ish for the playoffs.
I'd make the tradeoff and worry about Taveras' feeling later.

That is all good and probably smart. Willy is generally struggling in the 2-hole and was struggling as leadoff before that towards the end of the year.
I don't even think this would be a big deal if Lane went on one of his streaks right now or Morgan looked more comfortable. I thought he had changed his approach a little, but I'm no expert. He hasn't really been the same since the HBP, IMO.
Let's see what Scrap does.

never, ever take Willy out. hard choice between Lamb and Burke.

It seems to me that Ensberg has closed his stance, and is just looking to hit hard-hit singles. It certainly paid off dividends in the early part of the Atlanta series, but he doesn't seem to be able to drive the inside pitch like he has for most of the season. He's had a lot of hard hit outs the last three games, but I'd like to see him being a bit more aggressive.
Of course, I have no idea how to hit anything but a slow pitched softball, so this is just my ramblings.

Lamb has been playing quite well at 1st. At MMPUS, Berkman in LF isn't terrible.
Burke in RF, Jim, with Lance in LF, Lamb at 1st?
Biggio
Burke
Berkman
Ensberg
Lamb
Ausmus
Everett
Taveras
Clemens
?????
Gives Willy a chance to distract the pitcher when Roger is up to bat, makes a bunt almost a sure thing to move up a base, and gives the Astros a good chance if he is on base when Biggio comes up.

*BINGO*. He's trying to be a singles hitter going to right with his swings. Berkman hit a leadoff double and Ensberg is so locked in to hit to the right side, he's getting his hips out of the way and keeping his hands back. And they came inside hard on him, a pitch he was driving for homeruns in June/July, he's trying to *punch* to the right to move Berkman over.
*sigh*

dunno re Lane. i leave the defense alone and hit Burke 6th if he plays.

I'd do it. I'd see if this streak Burke is on can pay some huge dividends for Clemens, who isn't as dominant as he was earlier in the year.
Taveras is lost right now and Burke seems locked in. And Lamb is doing well too. Willy looks like a man I'd seriously consider sitting for Saturday at least.

To take this to the next level, if I may, what is Willy doing wrong in his approach at the plate? I really have no idea and would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Is it fixable?

I most definitely agree. Burke still starts, leaving Lamb on the bench. We need his punch from the left side of the plate in the late innings against one of the Co-ards many lackluster relief pitchers. You find me an Ump that makes Izzy get that damn cutter up a little more and I'll show you a ball leaving the park, via Lamb's bat.
-
Well with Morris pitching Saturday I'd normally anticipate Clank at first and Elvis out in LF. Why mess with a good thing though? It's not like Burke has never seen a righty before, and he's played left at the Juice Box before (even made some good plays out there off the wall IIRC) and Scraps hasn't exactly been afraid to go with his gut feeling, so Burke being run out there until he drops isn't out of the question. Keep the lefty bat for pinch hitting, and give your hottest hitter some more ABs. Maybe even move him ahead of Lane to help clean up anything left on base by Lance and MoBerg, and at the same time give Lane someone who can get on base for him.
It's so crazy it JUST MIGHT WORK....

IF.... one would make the tweak to the lineup... AND I would get a vote...
I'd put Berkman in right, Burke in left, Lamb at first. Being closer to the dugout in right makes it easier for the bench players to remind Berkman how many outs there are.

IIRC from last night Morgan is open on the first pitch or two then closing up when the ump starts squeezing the plate.

i rarely disagree with you, Noe, but i do 1000% on this.

The Fox fuckwits said last night that Garner thought Burke was one of the best LF in the NL. Were they serious? Ironically, it was moments before he misplayed the Molina double that went over his head.
And FWIW, I think you continue to play Burke in left; keep with the hot hand, but you can't sit Willy; his speed is too much of an asset.

he has said that many times or so Ashby has reported.

I think that Ensberg's "slump" is a bit overstated.
We smoked 2 balls 410 plus feet over the weekend with the braves, that if he would have pulled a little or if we didn't go 435' straight away could have been home runs. Andrew Jones made a great diving play on him in game 5 and Edmonds made a circus catch on him on what would have been an RBI triple if the ball is two feet further to right center.
I'm not saying that he hasn't had some bad at bats as well in the last 3 or 4 games, but if just two of those 4 things go differently then we aren't talking about MoBerg's slump- he's hitting about 300 in the playoffs, and he's got a couple more rbi's.
Just my thought on this whole deal.
I'd think maybe Gar should pull Lane though- he's been back to Bizzaro Lane his last 3 games and we know he's a steak guys. Burke in Left, Berkman in Right and Lamb at 1st, with Lane available as our pop of the bench. That makes more sense then sitting our Wily.

Ensberg hasn't gone yard since 9/20.
The Link
I don't know if that means he is in a slump, but I sure do miss it.

He's definately hit the ball hard at least once in each game, but they ain't falling.
He's also altered his approach (as he does maddingly often anyway) to shorten his swing on several at bats.

He's reverting to that punch and judy hitter he was last year. I don't like it. He's not driving the ball.
