Title: Tammy heading toward ATL
Post by: ASTROCREEP on October 05, 2005, 08:54:36 am
Probably won't be a Hurricane in ATL, but could drop A LOT of rain.

A couple extra days of rest for Andy/Roger? Good or bad?

weather.com says 10% chance of rain today, somewhat higher tomorrow, however.

Today's game is safe...my guess is that there's a good chance that tomorrow's game may be pushed into Friday.  I don't mind it either way.  I think it gives both clubs help with Smoltz and Clemens sporting nagging injuries. The only thing that bothers me is that I'll have to wait another day for Astros baseball.

It does mean that Backe will be forced to start game 4, as that will allow Pettite to pitch game 5 if needed, as I don't think Clemens or Oswalt will be available if tomorrow's game gets pushed.  I'm not sure that that changes anything though, as Garner probably had Backe penciled in for game 4 anyways.  Just saying that it won't be an option anymore.

Garner has already said Clemens won't go on short rest, so it's Backe in game 4 regardless.  Actually, it doesn't matter; Astros lose in 3....

Consider your source...  There is a 0% chance that their forecasting tools have this system and its impact properly initialized.  NWS has precip numbers already at 40% tonight and will likely be much higher by tomorrow.
The Link
This storm will slow down considerably in the next 6-12 hours and could be a big rain-producer in the region for the next 3-4 days.  Ugh.

So what are you saying?  That the weather forecast isn't always 100% correct?

Smart ass.

Unfortunately, weather will likely play some role in this series.

Do they play a DH down here on Sat? (nice)
Or play in ATL on Sat and DH here on Sun? (boooo)
Play a DH in ATL on Monday if required? (WTF?)

One thing working in favor of the game 2 getting played tomorrow or Friday is that Turner Field handles rain very well.  There's only been 2 rain outs since the park opened in 1996.  The first didn't happen until 2003 or 2004, can't remember.

My fear is not that the game gets bumped a day or two, but that game 2 gets interuppted by rain and forces Smoltz and Clemens to the bench when the game resumes.  I want to see that pitching matchup in its entirety.

Handles rain well?

It's a typical Ted Turner Half Ass Job.  He remembered to install his NAME on the building, but not a retractable roof.

I'll let you in on a secret.  It rains a lot in Atlanta.

Not me.  I've seen enough of John Smoltz in October.  I think Chuckie Carr hit a meaningless solo homerun off him once, but that's all we've ever done against that guy.

Yes, I agree.  And in my opinion that's why it's all the more important that we win today.  You do know that we got Roger going though...right?  For the 2nd time in years of playing the damn Braves...we can matchup with them, no matter who they throw out there.

I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.  I was really looking forward to watching the primetime game.
