Title: More Evidence...
Post by: drew corleone on October 04, 2005, 04:27:35 pm
...that the "mainstream media" (if Bill Simmons counts as such) knows absolutely nothing about the Astros.

From Simmons' daily blog:

Quote:

National League
I like Houston. This feels like we're headed for one of those goofy World Series where every score is like 9-7 or 10-8 (a little like '93 with the Phillies and Jays); I could just see Minute Maid having a 22-18 WS game and Joe Buck's head exploding.

Even if Houston didn't have the best 1-2-3 punch on the mound, MMPUS isn't the launch pad it once was.

And I know.. "what do you expect from ESPN?" Simmons should stick to his Red Sox knob-glossing pieces, I suppose.

Drew-

I really like Simmons, he's pretty funny. He know's nothing about the NL though- and admits as much.  Almost all of his writing is on the AL in general, sox yanks particular.  Not even sure why he bothered with a blurb about the NL since he usually just ignores what he knows nothing about (which is a blessing compared to hearing guys blabber about a team they are obviously unfamilar with).  I'm sweating bullets about OU right now- you?

Yeah but come on.  Who wouldn't want to see Joe Buck's head explode?

I'll stick to Jayson Stark.  At least he seems to actually like the Astros.

We will break them.

UT +14?  Give me the Horns.

Not yet, Gabe.

I mean, I'm pumped about beating those a-holes, but it'll be Friday before I can give that game my full concentration.

But I'm sure the first time I see one of those bastards give me the Horns Down Friday night my hatred of OU will once again supplant my hatred of the Braves.

As far as the game is concerned, unless Adrian Peterson pulls an Emmitt Smith-vs.-NY-in-93, I don't think Oklahoma hangs for more than two quarters. I know it's a rivalry game, but they just aren't very good this year. Texas is.

Dear god you almost gave me a heart attack.

Minus Fourteen. Texas, MINUS fourteen.

Just take all my posts with a grain of salt.  Editing isn't the easiest when you're sleep deprived.

I'm sure this will pass.

I'm no big Emmitt fan, nor am I an OU fan, but AP is a good kid from East Texas. Gig'em Horns, or whatever, but best wishes to Peterson.

Relax.  There are no FBGs.

No one who crosses the Red River northbound of their own free will is a "good kid from East Texas."  AP  was  a good kid from East Texas. Then he turned to the dark side.  There may be some good left in him, but the only way he can show it is if he throws Bob Stoops down a bottomless shaft after Stoops tries to kill Vince Young by shooting lightning bolts from his hands.

Especially since Leander is about as much "East Texas" as it is "West Rhode Island."

Peterson is from Palestine, Texas. Paul Thompson, the QB turned WR, is from Leander. Unfortunately, about half of OU's roster is consistently made up of misguided Texas youths who are obvious victims of bad parenting.

AD went to OU, IIRC, "to win championships." They got drummed in the try last year and might have to watch their arch rivals make a run of their own this season.

Poetic Justice.

With Jamaal Charles playing the way he is it doesn't bother me to see Peterson in Crimson and Cream.

Hook Em baby! Texas 33 OU 17

Charles 137 yds 2 TD's

that being said I'd take an ugly 1 point win n a heartbeat.

Looking at this OU / Texas stuff is like yeilding the remote to the wife on her birthday and being forced to watch "Design on a Dime" all night.  Excruciating.  I keep thinking the thread will jump back to Astros baseball but, apparantly, the current circumstance does not justify Astros baseball talk.  I wish I was not blindly compelled to click the little "jump to" icon everytime a new post is created...

Please don't ever do that again. I'm not sure who is more insulted, the Horns or the Aggies.

I'll try...

So now that Boston has gotten the shit kicked out of them and looks as though they'll challenge the Padres for shortest 2005 playoff stint, what are the odds that Simmon even watches the remainder of the postseason?

I could see Houston playing nothing but 1-0 and 2-1 games all playoffs, but next year we have to once again read about 20-18 scores at MMPUS.

This your first postseason, man?  The RedSox do this EVERY year.  And every year, people start talking about what a tank job the Sox were, and every year, they move on.

Feel free to declare the Pads dead, but I'd wait til the Sox are buried before doing the same.  Unfortunately.

Oh, and Fuck the Yankees too.

Not my first... guess I'm just letting wishful thinking get in the way.
