Taveras, all a sudden healed by watching Bruntlett, starts tonight. He starts the game with a ToB. Biggio gets hit by a throw. Not from the pitcher, from the 3b. In the helmet, ball flys into right. All right! The Astros scrappin for runs. Ensberg walks and Berkman decides small ball is not for him. He clouts a 3 run opposite field banana into the corner in left. 4-0.
In the 2nd, Lamb, another 3 run homer. 8-0. All right boys, that should do it, we gave them both barrels, they wont be coming back from tha? WHAA?
Yes, not that easy. The Pirates continued to hack. A run in the third, 2 in the 4th, another in the 5th. 8-4, Lane added another homer in the 7th, 10-4. But still the Pirates weren?t done, Doumit homers in the 7th making it 10-6. Springer had replaced Oswalt who was knocked around.
When the Pirates weren?t ripping balls in the gap or over the fence, the Astros fielders were having to run hits down. Taveras made a couple good running catches in center. Lane chased down a shot by Redman in the 8th, closing on the liner going away and, as Brownie said, caught the back of the ball.
Another Pirate run in the 8th. The Astros scored 2 in the 9th, aided by a catcher who couldn?t catch on a throw from third with Lamb running home on contact.
Astacio came in for the 9th, striking out 2 but giving up a run. At this point an out for a run seemed like a good deal. 15 hits on both sides.
Wandy v. Zach Duke. 11:30 game time.
