Title: With an assist from the visitors, Astros win 4-2
Post by: pravata on June 11, 2005, 01:32:20 am
The pregame scouting report on Lilly said that he's a flyball pitcher. Well, well, well, have we got a ballpark for you!  Willy Taveras politely made the proper introductions.  His first ab after a 3 game hiatus, he smacked a homer into the Crawdads.   He had to, his wheels still seem to be ailing.  He was running about three quarter speed and under control the whole game.

It wasn't the only homer of the game, Lane whaled one at his eyes into the back of the Boxes and Ensberg continued his good hitting with his own contribution.  Wandy helped his cause,  getting his first major league rbi by knocking in Everett with a single to right.  Staked to four runs the Astros pitchers were able to keep the Blue Jays hitters to 2.

Not that they didn't try to give the game away.  Wandy was all over the place again.  He tried mixing in some more offspeed stuff and was aiming at the same corner Pettitte lived on last night.  Wandy walked 6 and hit one.  He was helped by a couple dps, but in crucial situations he was able to make his pitch.  And by that I mean the Blue Jays were doing him a favor by jumping at balls.  The best thing he had going was that the Blue Jays aren't the Cardinals.  Bill Brown had the quote of the night, he said that Reed Johnson was up there to hit, not play moneyball.  Rodriguez did get through 6, Garner pulled him after the first walk of the 7th, and he got the win.

Dierker noticed, or he noticed that Pettitte had noticed, Rodriguez isn't finishing his pitches.  Dierker also said that he thinks short pitchers usually have more control because they have fewer moving parts.  Dierker has a screw loose.  He also spent vast epochs bitching about saves and hold statistics.  Even continuing his lecture as Wells knocked in Catalanotto for the second J run.

Harville, lucky the Astros have their names on their jerseys or I'd never have recognized him, threw an inning.  He had his usual pinpoint control as well.  He exhibited it by throwing a fastball that hit the knob of Reed Johnson's bat.  Boy were the BJs surprised when he wasn't awarded first.  Russ Springer continued his recent good work.  Since the unpleasantness against Cincinnati he has been a stalwart.  Lidge came in and struck out the side.  Is there any other way to end a game?

Jeff Bagwell was in the dugout The Link

Three games in a row, that's a streak.  Rajah will try to keep it going tomorrow at 6:05 against a guy whose name sounds like Regnad Kcin.  Make alternative viewing arrangements.  No local TV.
