FYI, every time I see or hear Urquidy’s name, I think of the single word in the Jawa vocabulary.
-
Great version of the national anthem.
-
No Suzuki behind the plate.
-
That 21 year old kid is unbelievable. I can't wait to see what he does tonight.
-
I'm glad virtually impossible isn't the same as impossible.
-
What the fuck is wrong with these umpires?
-
HUGE strike zone tonight. Let's hope it continues.
-
Urquidy better get that off the corner pitch
-
Altuve didn't want to test HPU.

Altuve gets it started. The crowd roar would indicate a solid contingent of Astros fans is in the house

Swinging at slop in the dirt is unlikely to precipitate a fly ball.

I'll take the crooked number and be grateful for it.

Swinging at slop in the dirt is unlikely to precipitate a fly ball.
Bingo.
-
WTF is wrong with Chirinos?
-
There is no way this idiot is going to give Urquidy the same zone.
-
Corbin got out of a bases loaded jam by throwing four straight balls in the dirt, and getting two outs.
-
Whoa the movement on that 2nd pitch
-
WTF is wrong with Chirinos?
He should have taken that. 93 on the bottom inside corner is not a hitter's pitch.

Urquidy’s decision to throw Turner strikes was a welcome change.

I haven't spoken to my contempt for DC area sports fans, they are in sort of an unassuming manner some of the worst fans in the country. But I have enormous respect for the Nationals because they for some reason have managed to put together a team that plays really good defense. I commend Suzuki especially, but there are plenty of other guys that I'm getting tired of.

My mom had lung cancer a few years ago and everywhere we went they asked, How the hell did you catch it this early? Well, the answer is, both of her sons are assholes and got tired of her relentless coughing which turned out to have nothing to do with the cancer. Yeah, you know, for years she'd been coughing like a homeless guy who lives under a bridge. She'd had a scan a few years before that came back fine. In her mind, there was no reason to keep looking. She though it was allergies. That's what everyone told her. She came to visit me a few years ago and her cough was so fucking annoying that I told her, Look, your doctors aren't doing shit about this. I need you to find someone who will. I don't know what's wrong with you, but something is wrong, figure it out. This shit is unbearable.
She found a doctor who took thirty seconds to think about it, scheduled another scan, the one that found the tumor, prescribed her some acid reflux medication, so we ended up getting rid of the cancer AND the fucking coughing two for one.
I'll admit, it is harder to find her in Target now, but these are the sacrifices we make.

My mom fucked up her shoulder one morning when she was moving chairs around for her Sunday school class. She had to have it operated on and they found a small cancerous tumor in her right lung looking a pre-op x-ray. She had recently just been declared cancer free the previous year from breast cancer. That’s awesome.
I, sadly, omitted a number of people from my list. One was a guy who’s been my friend for about 20 years and was one of the biggest hypochondriacs the world has ever produced. He was always at the doctor’s for the merest things. Then one day, his doctor visit returned the verdict of multiple stage 4 cancers. He passed about 6 weeks ago.
I still can’t get my head around it. How the fuck does a guy who spends half his life in the doctor’s office get all the way to stage 4 without anyone noticing? That’s why your story is so uplifting, because it’s the happy opposite.

I want to than Fernando Rodney for his many years of service in MLB and I glad he has stuck around for so long.
-
Can Tucker PH twice in this inning?
-
Can Tucker PH twice in this inning?
He's in the game now, he would not be a pinch hitter.
-
Rendon is human.
-
He's in the game now, he would not be a pinch hitter.
Come on, Marisnick!
-
This is starting to look like torture. They’re leaving Rodney there to clear up his own mess. Smacks of surrender.
-
Can Tucker PH twice in this inning?
Only if they traded him to the other team.
-
This is starting to look like torture. They’re leaving Rodney there to clear up his own mess. Smacks of surrender.
They're protecting their pen.
-
Rendon is human.
So he could trim that beard?
-
Only if they traded him to the other team.
Gotcha!
-
He's in the game now, he would not be a pinch hitter.
So yes/no. Perfect, because it’s Washington.
-
This is starting to look like torture. They’re leaving Rodney there to clear up his own mess. Smacks of surrender.
Sending Rainey out there was the first signal.
-
Would it be greedy to ask for another slam?
-
They are booing their own team. Class.
-
That's it for Rodney...leaves with the bases loaded, two out...Suero in to face Tucker, who's hitting for the second time this inning.
-
Would it be greedy to ask for another slam?
Nope. You keep scoring until they figure out how to stop you.
-
Would it be greedy to ask for another slam?
That's like asking for tastes great AND less filling.
-
Would it be greedy to ask for another slam?
I would not be disappointed....
-
Nope. You keep scoring until they figure out how to stop you.
I'll take a line drive somewhere.
-
I would like to think that all of us recall the various 9th inning comebacks against the Astros with a 7 run lead.
-
I'll take a line drive somewhere.
Their BP is having a wild game.
-
Charlize Theron ought to be ashamed.
-
I would like to think that all of us recall the various 9th inning comebacks against the Astros with a 7 run lead.
More runs for the visitors.
-
If I was arm wrestling with Charlize Theron, I’d let her win too if the prize was a Budweiser.
-
I knew Tucker was doomed when he missed strike two.
-
Charlize Theron ought to be ashamed.
Did we just become best friends?!!!
-
I wonder if Brownie would call him K-Tuck?
-
I knew Tucker was doomed when he missed strike two.
Wasted opportunity.
-
I wonder if Brownie would call him K-Tuck?
Better than Milo calling him Tucksy, probably.
-
More LOBsters.
Are we allowed to complain about that?
-
I would like to think that all of us recall the various 9th inning comebacks against the Astros with a 7 run lead.
Yes, my apologies for my earlier transgression. The worst aforementioned 7run comeback was Brian Giles and Pirates.
-

Since when have you needed permission?
-
You know that Google thing that you can pause with your hand will be the most annoying thing in the world as it will pause at the slightest movement and/or any passing pet.
I have an easy fix though; you use you hand still, but you move it an extra 3” and touch the pause button.
-
Well, we get our wish...Hector Rondon pitching in the World Series.
-
They sure cry yard in D.C. (the 51st State?!?!?!).
-

I remember that game but I don't remember who was pitching.

Wagner, right? Wasn’t that the first game of a doubleheader?
-
If I was arm wrestling with Charlize Theron, I’d let her win too if the prize was a Budweiser.
Personally, I’m quite relieved to see that Bubbles from the wire is still alive and looking like he’s abstained from the H for a while.

Billy “best pitch” Wagner.

I really want Hector to succeed.

Their loss.

Billy “best pitch” Wagner.
The original stuff truster
-
I wish the commentators would stop saying that the game is over.
-
Three hard hit balls, two outs.
-
Frank Howard had three or four great years. Not a HoFer but he was very good.
-
Three hard hit balls, two outs.
I hope their fans enjoy it as much as I did.
-
Wagner, right? Wasn’t that the first game of a doubleheader?
He knows exactly who was pitching. He also knows who hit the slam. He also knows who almost hit four home runs for the Astros.
-
WTF is Buck talking about now? If you discard the shitty start To the season the Nats had, they’ve got more wins than the Astros?
Yeah, and if you discount all the times Charlize Theron has been fucked by her male companions, I’ve fucked her as much as any of them.

Damn Robbie. Dude takes a beating.

Well this inning is not without drama...
-
Good grief.
-
Rondon can't get out of the inning with a 7-run lead...Peacock in with two on, two out...
-
Nice work, Hector.
-
Good grief.
No shit, I need to relax and Rendon didn’t help one bit.
-
Nice work, Hector.
I really wanted him to do well this time.
-
Nice work, Hector.
He was a closer.
Mind boggling.

What a play by Gurriel!
Where the fuck was Peacock?

Not so fast now are you Mr Turner?

I don’t normally think in gifs, but that play would make a pretty good one.

We still need 2 innings from our pen.

Apparently watching a badass fielder.
-
I remember that game but I don't remember who was pitching.
Billy ‘gas can’ Wagner
-
He was a closer.
And for a good team. What the Astros have now is not exactly Lidge to Dotel to Wagner, but the guys they have at the back of the pen you'd put up against anyone.
Yuli is a good dude. I'm starting to warm to that guy.

Yeah, I would save that shit...

Sparks guesses Devo for 2

He's never nonplussed.

Might get Peacock for another.
-
He's never nonplussed.
Is that the same as being always plussed?
-
We still need 2 innings from our pen.
So do they.

J-War! Guerra!

Yuli is a damn wizard at first...who woulda ever thunk he was a SS in Cuba.

Attaboy Jose.

I thought he was a 3rd basemen?

Attaboy Alex.

Soto almost made a GREAT play.

They have shorter basepaths.

They have shorter basepaths.
They got the fuckin' metric system.

Soto almost made a GREAT play.
He makes that play at 20.

Which bat is yours?
-
Peacock out for the 8th...
-
Fuck...E4
-
Why the fuck don't these arrogant fucks have the goddamn shortstop playing shortstop?
-
Did Rendon hit the bag?
-
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop peptic ulcer therapy.
-
Did Rendin hit the bag?
Yes
-
Just cannot avoid the drama.
-
We're gonna end up using Smith and maybe Osuna.
-
Couple of good sliders there from Brad.
-
Zimmerman has to be the last batter for Peacock.
-
Zimmerman has to be the last batter for Peacock.
Yes.

Just throw fucking strikes.
Thank you Brad.
-
Devo in the 9th with a 7 run lead?
-
Just throw fucking strikes.
Thank you Brad.
He did quite well after the irritating E4 and the irritating ball 4.
-
Devo in the 9th with a 7 run lead?
I would.
-
Devo in the 9th with a 7 run lead?
I'd hate to throw Smith if not necessary.
But these guys have made him get warm 50 times tonight.
-
Radio guys announce Devo for the 9th.
-
Would be nice to get a baserunner this inning and give Yordan a swing.
-
Chirinos obliges the baserunner request.

I’m starting to figure that Soto doesn’t have an accurate arm.

No, no, no...you're on a fucking roll...
-
It was very close.
-
It was a good send. Took a perfect throw and tag and they got one.
-
Devo in to try to close it out with a 7-run lead instead of an 8-run lead because JBM decided to tell the BBGs to stick it up their collective ass.
-
Good send, good throw, it happens.
-
It was very close.
And very unnecessary.
-
Dylan on the return cut.
Nice.
-
Good send, good throw, it happens.
You forgot “catcher running”.
-
Need the circle of death to work tonight.
-
You forgot “catcher running”.
Maybe they were trying to give Chirinos a breather?
-
F7
-

It was a responsible send. Maybe in a tie game you don't, but it was an acceptable risk.

Buck and Smoltz struggling to maintain interest in this game.

Buck's getting a hard on thinking about Troy Aikman.
-
Dozier is the emergency catcher for the Nats
-

I don’t disagree. Just having some fun. This game’s supposed to be fun, dammit!

2-out walk...with a 7-run lead.
-
Buck's getting a hard on thinking about Troy Aikman.
And vice versa. NTTAWWT

Indeed.

Well, at least ONE more home game.
-
Let Cole and the boys win tomorrow, take this shit back to Necktown, two to win one.

Urquidy is the 2nd Mexican pitcher in MLB to win a WS start, along with Fernandomania. Jaime Garcia with the Cards is the only other to start one.

also (https://www.mlb.com/news/jose-urquidy-has-strong-world-series-game-4-start):
According to Elias, Urquidy is the second pitcher since the LCS began in 1969 to have his first career postseason start be a scoreless outing in the World Series (also Jon Lester in 2007).
Wow!
-
When Soto does his annoying back and forth dance in front of the box he reminds me of that weird Future Islands guy on Letterman.
Sam Herring. He is the younger brother of a college roommate of mine. He is a great guy and an amazing performer. His Future Islands persona is truly a character. His ex-girlfriend used to date the lead singer of Skinny Puppy.
-
That's what he was trying to do. And almost did. He beats out that bunt, he steals, maybe Mike drives HIM in with an easy single, etc.
This. Good idea. Bad execution. Too much toward the pitcher.
-
If Pressly is unusable, why not disable him and get somebody on the roster that might be able to contribute?
Who the fuck would that be?
-
That's an easy double play if Harris doesn't kick that ball.
Altuve was shifted left of second. Kicking it probably kept it in the infield.
-
Who the fuck would that be? You seemingly find criticism of everything easy.
Maybe 2018 Colin Moran is available via time warp.
-
Frank Howard had three or four great years. Not a HoFer but he was very good.
I saw Hondo play (one game) in that old shithole that was the stadium the Redskins played in before their new digs. Me and a couple of hundred of my closest friends. That was before they exited for Arlington.

I saw Howard play in Austin more than once with the Victoria Rosebuds of the Texas League. Disch Field (now gone) had a tall 400 foot deep CF fence, and Howard hit a bullet line drive which was still rising when it left the park.

With all the shit rightly thrown at Joe Buck for being crap at his job, the thing at which he is empirically bad is describing the set up. In an era when teams shift on a regular basis, we - the tv viewer - never know because the directors are obsessed with close-ups and reaction shots while Buck is just smug as a bug in a rug in the booth reading stats passed to him by a producer.
Then there's a ground ball that should go through a hole in the infield. "Ground ball" Buck will helpfully note. And then it's straight to an infielder you had no idea was fucking there and Buck describes it as a routine out.
Just completely fucking useless.

TBS's broadcasts showed "DEFENSIVE SHIFT IS ON" right underneath the score bug, so that the viewer knows even when looking at home plate. I thought that was useful without being too intrusive.
Of course, I'd love a live Statcast plot of the fielders, but we're probably a ways away from that.
