Currently a 100% chance of rain in NY on Wed. per a Footer/McTaggart column. If game rained out then Greinke could go on full rest in Game 4 Thursday skipping the Urquidy/BP game.
Edited: Game 4 not 3. Cole of course is Game 3. My typo.

Of course that's the one game I was planning on going to - would they make it up Friday?

Thursday, weather permitting. https://www.mlb.com/news/astros-eye-new-york-weather

Hm - that's basically pushing it to Friday, wonder how they'll handle tickets

Yes
Had a debate about this topic last night when we saw the weather report.....
Everyone agreed games 4 & 5 are now likely to be played on Thursday/Friday. The question was would they bump back games 6/7 (if needed). The answer is no. If Wednesdays is wiped out it means, 4/5/6/7 are played with no off day in between.

The built the most expensive baseball stadium of all time and forgot to put a roof on it. Man, Yankees are stupid people.

They haven't changed their uniforms in 100 years either. It is almost like they are traditionalists or something.

'Cept for the whole DH thing, of course. Tradition!
Tradition is bucking up against the 162-game season, the tendency for baseball to start earlier and end later, etc. If you can't do anything about those, you'd best build a roof.

The possibility of 4 straight games could mess with Boone's bullpen usage in games 4 and 5.

Something to keep an eye on, sometimes these coastal transfer storms complete the transition earlier than modeled. The bulk of the rain is slated from noon until 5pm (1.5” of moderate, soaking rain) then transitioning to more showery in nature. Because the stadium is new, they will have the excellent drainage that new stadiums have and an 8pm game would not be out of the question if the coastal transfer happens quickly and showers cut off early.
The meteorological histogram will be something to watch as we get closer to the event.

Woo hoo! Looks like the coastal part of the storm will form of the Virginia keep instead of New Jersey which means a more prolonged rain event for the Bronx. It is increasingly likely that the game will be rained out tomorrow night. Thursday night will be breezy and cool we’re at game time temperature in the upper 40s to around 50°F.
A note of interest; the breezy and gusty winds from the departing storm Thursday evening will be perfectly oriented (from the west north west) for the ridiculous band box right field bleachers 314 feet down the line in ridiculous Yankee Stadium. Ridiculous.

Perfect in what sense?
Wind from the west north west is basically on a line from home plate to right field. And the right field fence is a ridiculous 314 feet away. Those swinging with an uppercut May get the ball in the jetstream and it may never come down. At that ridiculous stadium, routine flyball to right field often end up going out. Thursday evening, we may be in the ridiculous position of calling the infield fly rule for a pop up between first and second and then quickly shifting to the home run signal.

I'm not sure who benefits more or less from a rain out. It's certainly logical that moving Grienke/Verlander/Cole all up a game in the series is advantageous, but making a game 7* a kitchen sink/bullpen game would be way too stressful. Of course eliminating a day off between four games should be a disadvantage for the Yankees bullpen, but that cuts both ways and increases the workload on Harris/Osuna/Pressley/Smith.

Game 6 in that scenario is the bullpen day not game 7. Game 7 would still in theory be Cole's on normal rest. A rainout just moves the bullpen game back, if it gets that far.

That's a good point. You're right.
I kind of liked how it was originally set up - win at least one in New York and you've got JV and Cole fully rested at home. Shifting the bullpen game from 4 to 6 messes that up, but it's the ALCS. There's an insane amount of pressure every game.

4 games in 4 days puts a ton of pressure on their bullpen.

I believe the MLB precedent is for the game to be played in Tampa Bay.

That point forecast is predicting a prodigious amount of rain for tomorrow night.
So, it's now almost a certainty that Game 4 will be rained out.
Not only rain, but 20-30 MPH winds..

They’ll get 2.5” of soaking rain. Nice recovery to a dry fall so far.
The winds will continue for the game Thursday night: WNW winds of 14 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph during the game. HR’s to right will be something to watch. Greinke pitching will be interesting as well since he is a control/finesse pitcher now. At least he'll be pitching directly into the wind instead of dealing with an inconsistent side wind. It’ll likely take a few mph off of his arsenal though. I wonder if we’ll see a sub 60mph deuce.

It’s raining so hard in Houston right now that, if the games were here, they’d still be played.

There will always be Milwaukee.

Probably Cabrera'd but the game has been called per McTaggart.

In another bit of good news, Joe Buck will not call the game tomorrow because he has to suffer through a football game in Denver. Joe Davis (LA Dodgers) will take his place.

Which tells you all you'll never need to know about Fox's sports priority.
A meaningless Thursday Night Football game ranks higher than the semi-finals for MLB.
Please, MLB, for fuck's sake, sell rights to broadcast your playoff games to a network that isn't run by 3 gibbons in a trenchcoat.

the sad thing is that the meaningless Thursday Night Football game will probably get better ratings.

That reminds me....last nite I was channel surfing and ESPN had this doc about the history of college football and television. I am old enough to remember most of it. There was for several years in the '60s but one college football game televised per weekend. And each team could only appear on the Game of the Week once per year. So, if Texas/Oklahoma was televised nationally the Texas/A%M game could not be even if the Aggies hadn't used up their quota of one. My how things have changed.
-
The weather is seriously ugly right now even though it is not raining hard. Glad MLB postponed the game.

Not until 2029, they won't. (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/15/sports/mlb-fox-tv-deal.html) The article also mentions Fox is getting more postseason games starting in 2022, presumably replacing, in part or whole, TBS and ESPN whose current contracts expire in 2021.

Right. At least give them each their own trenchcoat.

I remember waiting for the scores after that game. They had the old board up behind the announcer, and they would slip cards in with the school names and the scores, and that was how you found out how the rest of the world did.

Is the wind in NYC 30+ mph?
I use this for planning duck hunting trips and it's been close enough accurate in my use. Click on the New York text and it will show forecasts for that location. For New York the website shows 23mph winds with gusts of 47mph, today at 6pm.

Good grief. How do they play baseball in wind like that? I was in a nor’easter last year in Quebec City and have never experienced wind like that ever.
-

It will be steady WNW winds of 16-20mph with gusts from 29-32mph, slowly decreasing as the game wears on.
Temps will be in the low 50's the whole time and it will be a bit raw with humidity around 70%. Tough evening to play a game. Tough evening to watch a game live in the stadium as well.

Get a roof.

Looking at the DC forecast for next weekend. Temps in the low 50s, with 50% chance of rain each day.
