I just finished saying a rosary and my prayer to St. Rita. The rest is up to the men on the field.

85% capacity
Probably 75%

85% capacity
Probably 75%
Worst possible time to start a weekday game in Houston during the school year.
-
For whatever reason, the Astros simply can't throw strikes to Choi.
-
T1:
Meadows...0-2...1-2 just off the corner...strikes out looking
Pham strikes out swinging
Choi...full count...walks...again
d'Arnaud...0-2...flies out F8
No score...Astros coming to bat
-
For whatever reason, the Astros simply can't throw strikes to Choi.
They're not gonna let Choi beat them?
-
Astros on the corners...nobody out...
-
Glasnow got off to an amazing start this year but his career numbers are pedestrian at best. Granted he is just 25.
-
Altuve hit the fuck out of that ball, which was eye high at least.
-
Altuve with an RBI knock!
Astros still on the corners, no outs...
-
Altuve hit the fuck out of that ball, which was eye chin high at least.
FIFM
-
Snell up in the Rays' pen...
-
Bregman with a 2-run double!!! 3-0 Astros...still no outs
-
Keep the line moving.
-
Yes! That is what not fucking around looks like. Still a long way to go.
-
Yuli! 4-0
-
Yuli with an RBI base hit! 4-0 Astros
-
Bregman stops on the way to the dugout to tip Correa off on something about Glasnow.
Attababy Yuli!
-
Bregman stops on the way to the dugout to tip Correa off on something about Glasnow.
Good pickup.
-
Bregman stops on the way to the dugout to tip Correa off on something about Glasnow.
Attababy Yuli!
Bregman (or someone else) has picked out something that is giving away his pitches. He said "something something curveball, something top fastball".
I'm no Jomboy.
-
Seems like the plan is to be a base runner not a slugger.
-
And Correa has the first shitty Astro at bat of the night, taking two fastballs and wildly swinging at a curve that bounced.
-
B1:
Springer singles to LCF
Brantley...0 for his last 13...singles to LCF, Springer to 3B
Altuve singles to RCF, Springer scores, Brantley to 3B
Bregman doubles to RCF, Branltey scores, Altuve scores
Alvarez grounds out 6-3, Bregman to 3B
Gurriel singles to LF, Bregman scores
Correa...takes two strikes...1-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch that bounces in front of the plate
Reddick...quickly down 0-2...strikes out swinging
But the Astros put up a crooked number...lead 4-0
-
Seems like the plan is to be a base runner not a slugger.
They’re swinging aggressively, which is a change for once
-
Sixteen down 14 to go. Carlos is getting closer to 30 ABs.
-
Good pickup.
Didn't help Correa...he was lost
-
Didn't help Correa...he was lost
Or Reddick. He was an hour behind all 3 of those fastballs.
-
Gotta buckle down now.
-
Welp...4-1

Welp...4-1
Man, come the fuck on Cole.
God damnit.
-
Man, come the fuck on Cole.
God damnit.
Spotted 4 runs...
-
Spotted 4 runs...
And gives up a homer to his high school Geometry teacher.
-
It amazes me how Astros pitchers just can't put up a zero after a big inning.
-
And gives up a homer to his high school Geometry teacher.
Probably only on the Rays because the Jays decided to play Cavan full time at second. Thanks, Craig.
-
T2:
Sogard homers to RF on the first pitch
Garcia grounds out 6-3
Wendle...1-1...takes one down the middle for ball two...foul...fouling off more pitches...strikes out swinging
Kiermaier strikes out swinging
4-1 Astros
-
Ship righted! Now don't let up, boys!
-
Good job by Cole turning the page and getting the next three guys. Offense...get back to work.
-
....and the Frito pie recedes.

Brantley...full count...pops out F6
Astros mowed down in the 2nd...lead 4-1
-
Nice play, Bregs!
It's good to have good players.

Glasnow gets two quick outs on three pitches, and he's out...
-
Lefty Snell for Alvarez. Hope Yordan has made the adjustments.
-
Snell in to face Yordan. Let's hope he make them regret it.
-
STOP CHASING HIGH FASTBALLS, GOD DAMNIT ALVAREZ.
-
Alvarez just cannot catch up to high fastballs
-
B3:
Altuve pops out F4
Bregman grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
That's all for Glasnow, Snell in
Alvarez...3-1...3-2 on a pitch in his eyes...fouling off...flies out F7

That can do the splits!
Chris Farley-ish

He's a talented fat man.
Scares me with the Crawford Boxes possibility.
-
Guys, I have it on good authority that a 3 run lead ain’t safe! We need more Astros to score now.
-
Correa just missed it..
-
I thought Correa got that.
-
These new post season balls have more drag. That's not a conspiracy. Seeing a lot more warning track outs.
-
I thought Correa got that.
Wrong part of the park.
-
I'm getting a little queasy about how the Astros bats just suddenly died.
-
B4:
Gurriel...full count...fouling off pitches...flies out to shallow CF
Correa flies out F8 on the first pitch
Reddick...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
4-1
-
I'm getting a little queasy about how the Astros bats just suddenly died.
The need to get rekindled.
-
The need to get rekindled.
Bad swings, bad at bats, no life. Their letting the Rays hang around when they need to punch them in the throat.
-
Bad swings, bad at bats, no life. Their letting the Rays hang around when they need to punch them in the throat.
The only good news is they're putting together long at bats. But I doubt Snell sticks around much longer.

Hopefully it's the calm before the storm and the Rays of Tampa Bay season will soon be quelled.

I assume he's done
-
T5:
Wendle grounds out 6-3
Kiermaier bounces slowly to 2B, Altuve charges, makes a nice pick up and quick throw to get him
Adames strikes out looking
Halfway home...4-1 Astros
-
What a pitch by Cole to end that at bat. Outside black, he had no chance.
-
7 K through 5 for Cole
-
The only good news is they're putting together long at bats. But I doubt Snell sticks around much longer.
Yep, he is gone.

Nice inning by cole.

Maldonado has seen 2 pitches. 2 outs.

Let's go George, get it started again..
-
Nothing like strike zone consistency.
-
Nothing like strike zone consistency.
And at bat consistency. Taking and swinging through so many hittable pitches.
-
Better make this hold up because it looks like the Astros aren't getting another base runner.

Seeking Michael Brantley.. Wherefore art thou Michael?

Whatever you all were doing in the bottom of the 1st, kindly get back to it.

Looked like they were all within 4" of each other. Except for that called strike.

They'll have seven left after this next guy.

Sparks says Cash's plan is to build a bridge to Morton for 7-8-9

Sparks says Cash's plan is to build a bridge to Morton for 7-8-9
That doesn't seem smart. It worked for the Astros, but against?
-
B5:
Roe in for the Rays
Maldonado pops out weakly F3 on the first pitch
Springer grounds out weakly 6-3
Roe out, Yarbrough in
Brantley...full up...walks
That's all for Yarbrough, Anderson in
Altuve pops to shallow RF on the first pitch
4-1 Astros
-
It's almost like the Astros have entirely forgotten the first inning, and putting together good at bats while swinging at hittable pitches.
This is painful
-
Brantley managed to work a walk that inning, but the rest was extremely weak contact early in the count.
-
That doesn't seem smart. It worked for the Astros, but against?
I have it on good authority that Sparks is not very smart.
However, it might have been Ford that said that. I still have trouble telling them apart.

@ESPNStatsInfo: In the 3rd inning, Gerrit Cole didn't record a strikeout.
Why is that significant?
Cole had recorded at least 1 strikeout in 73 consecutive innings (reg. and postseason) dating back to Aug. 1.
It was the longest such streak in the Expansion Era (since 1961)....by 33 innings.

Holy fuck, Alvarez. That was right down the fucking pipe.

I certainly hope Yordan gets a chance to crush one this game.
-
Alvarez is having a tough patch. Hope he snaps out soon.

B6:
Bregman...takes strike one...takes strike two...strikes out swinging at a pitch that bounces
Alvarez waves at a pitch in the dirt...waves at another pitch at his ankles...blown away by a fastball right down the middle
Gurriel lines out to LF on the first pitch
4-1 Astros

Shit. Even the hangers get turned into outs.

Alvarez is having a tough patch. Hope he snaps out soon.
There's an enormous hole in his swing...basically anything above the thighs.
-
There's an enormous hole in his swing...basically anything above the thighs.
Under everything.
-
For a team that thrived in the first inning of going after the ball and putting it in play, it seemed odd to watch Alvarez and Correa approach their ABs by taking fastballs down the middle. Odd that. Alavarez taken 3 meat pitches down central tonight.
-
Kevin Roberts is gonna regret this.
Can a bitch get a donut?

Well, he's not Dave Roberts, that's for sure. Cash has to manage this way. That's the way his team is built, and getting behind early meant he had to pull out all the stops at every stop. It caught up with him.

And I can officially say that I actually really like Ji-Mann Choi. But man he was a fucking pest this series.
Also, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, Joe Girardi is fucking horrendous in the broadcast booth. I hope some team hires him just to save the baseball loving world from having to live through that experience again. What a fucking slapdick.

Outstanding game all around.. Now time to go get Cole his WS ring.
-
Thank you, BBGs. I wasn’t ready for the void. Not yet.

Whoa there big shoots, I'm gonna need you to bring it down around 70, 80 percent there.

Relax

Yeah, yeah.. the yankmees are up.. they are a tough team.. I still like this team.

The Tampa Bay Rays, Dude. Worthy fucking adversary.

How did you wait this long? So much restraint.

Have you not learned anything? Take it one game at a time.
-
Anyone having a goddamn awful time with fubo.tv? The UI says the game is over and if I reach the "end" of the stream, it stops.
Mine is working fine.
-
The Tampa Bay Rays, Dude. Worthy fucking adversary.
They are the master of using unorthodox methods to compete, that’s for sure. Props to them.
-
FTR, I am wearing my WS Game #7 shirt.
You’re welcome.

We got by the Rays by the skin of our teeth. Let’s pump the brakes.

It's a concerted effort to do what it takes. After all, I drank Lone Star and Optimator on Tuesday.

I'm known for my reserve.

Cole is ridiculous.
Why you guys listen to the tv broadcast is totally beyond me. Just irresponsible decision making.

I was saying as the game started, they have a dozen eggs in their basket, we have one. If Cole shits the bed, it’s a hard climb back. Cole was the nuts, and all the funk in the Rays couldn’t beat that.
-
If I’m Crane and company, I figure out a way to make it work in the Astros’ budget to sign Cole this offseason. Do whatever it takes. I don’t want him pitching in another uniform next season.
-
I'd have sent Cole back out there to finish his gem. He's the best arm on the team.
Don’t be dumb. He was gassed.

Total silence at my house...except when I talked to myself or to my dog.

There is no issue, it's a progression. Checks and balances. Good win, see you next game.

So ARod and Papi show the first inning clips, tipped pitches

Post-game didn’t get any better. A-Rod thinks the Astros knew what Glasnow was throwing.

The Rays’ strategy of using multiple pitchers in short stretches makes it tough on hitters. There’s a reason many starting pitchers struggle the third time through the batting order. The hitters figure out the starter’s release point and can hit pitches that made them look silly earlier in the game. When you see a new pitcher every inning, and they all have plus stuff, it’s a challenge to get comfortable in the box.
-
I listened to the radio broadcast while watching a much delayed TV broadcast. Our kitchen shelves are organized as fuck.
My sleeveless Correa jersey is now 2-2, both in elimination game 6-1 victories.

Always the excuse.

Who cares? Let the media think what they want. I believe the Astros are a great hitting team that has pummeled talented starting pitchers in the past. This was also the third time they had seen Glasnow this season.

Point of order. WS Game 7 was 5-1.

Sparks in the clubhouse is always awesome. I don’t care how stupid he is, his clubhouse interviews are a treasure.
-
Did y’all see the Astros wives on the infield? Very friendly. Hopefully Ms. Ce wants to continue that.

My hope. And if I’m Cole I would be willing to give up a little (and still make crazy money) to stay with this dynasty in the making.
-
Handshakes/High 5s all around.
Can't wait to read thru this GZ.
GO ASTROS!!
-
It's a concerted effort to do what it takes. After all, I drank Lone Star and Optimator on Tuesday.
So that’s like a.500 batting average then (2.000 slugging).

I mean if you want to get technical, but one batter drinker don't win the game.

Joe Smith to Sparks: ‘You’re having more fun than half the room.’
-
Papi to Springer: “Glasnow was tipping his pitches, right?”
Springer: “Man, I’m too stupid for stuff like that. It’s hard enough just to see the white thing and swing at it.”

I turned to the radio feed in game 1 and never looked bad.

Good man.
I’m really curious to see if they trade Straw for a pitcher or Tucker for a pitcher or both of them.

Point of order. WS Game 7 was 5-1.
Holy crap, I take it back. Wow, just WRONG on that.
-
The Rays are fucking nasty.
And I did not have enough alcohol for tonight.
-
Glasnow said in the postgame that once he reviewed the video it was obvious that he was tipping. He wouldn't share the details.
Also, apparently Cintron is the tipping savant.

Judging just from the camera cut of him yelling at Maldonado in the 7th or 8th, I'd say that is a fair statement.

Dan Plesac on MLB Network gave a good breakdown. Glasnow was holding his glove much higher when he would throw a fastball than he would when throwing his curveball. It was a stark difference and an easy tell.

They showed him in a very animated conversation with Chirinos as well.

He must have stopped after the first inning.

The narrative is out there, and there's no stopping it.
Just like with Kimbrel last year.
People act like it's batting practice if a guy tips.

Exactly right. I posted on this issue in the TZ.

Re tipped pitches: supposedly Glasnow was getting thousands of texts that he was dropping his hands when throwing the curve. Fox showed the Astros hitters talking to each other as they cane to the plate. Twitter showed Glasnow taking his grip with his arm by his side.
Bottom line(s): the Astros weren’t cheating and, as pointed out by the Rays’ coach, they still have to hit it even if they know what’s coming.
-
Didn’t help Carlos at all. I think he stared at two meaty fastballs, layed off one curve and swang at the next one in the dirt.

Learning pitches from mannerisms is not cheating.

Did Cintron discover the tell from video, prior to the game? Or did he catch it in the lead off Springer at bat?
-
Total silence at my house...except when I talked to myself or to my dog.
trust me....you and your do would have been better than this crew. And PBP was actually ok. The two analysts acted like they were there for reasons other than analyzing what was happening on the field.

FWIW: https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/10/10/former-major-leaguers-think-tyler-glasnow-was-tipping-his-pitches/
Trevor Plouffe, who re-signed with the Phillies on a minor league contract for the 2019 season, responded to Frandsen, “I had his pitches this Spring Training. Every one of em and it only took an inning.”

Jayson Stark in The Athletic:

Gerrit Cole is 18-0 in those five freaking months. Yeah, 18 and 0! If you’re thinking that seems like a lot of games to win in a row, let’s just say you’re on the right track. According to STATS LLC, to find the last pitcher who won that many games in a row within a single season, you would have to go back 107 years – to 1912, when Rube Marquard spun off 19 in a row for John McGraw’s New York Giants. We’d cue up the Rube Marquard videotape now, except that was like six decades before the invention of videotape.
ETA: not sorry if Cabrera'd.

Joe Smith to Sparks: ‘You’re having more fun than half the room.’
Sparks screaming at Harris "you're skanky" and "your wife loves money" as Harris cheerily replied "she loves winning and being a party of this thing."
Somehow I was not aware that Brandon Crawford is Garrett Cole's brother in law.
