Bregman and Alvarez with back to back RBI doubles. Astros lead 2-0 after 0.5 innings.
-
How close was that Alvarez ball to clearing the fence?
Couldn't tell on my screen.
-
CFM 4
Yankees 0
-
Correa not in the lineup again. I wonder if he will be on the playoff roster?

Five feet or so. It hit the ground, didn’t it?

Couldn't tell. My iPad feed is currently low resolution for some reason.
It's not quite French Impressionism but it ain't 4K either.

Looked like Long was way over in LCF, and had he been in normal position would have caught it. But it may have been closer. It was hit pretty high.

Vogelbach complains a lot.

Someone took his vogel.

Vogelbach reminds me of this commercial. Every time we see him he looks thicker:

Actually this is the one I meant:

I was told Sunday that the starting lineup we saw in that game was the starting lineup for the ALDS. I was also told that day that Carlos was not hurt. Not sure which statement was conjecture.
I think Correa's defense alone makes the team better. I would be surprised to not see him starting in the ALDS assuming he is even marginally healthy.

They should give it bach.

Greinke takes care of Seattle's order in order.

Greinke takes care of Seattle's order in order.
He looks good tonight. Ground ball machine.
-
His 4th inning ERA was well over 5.
-
Heard hinch say before the game he would pull Greinke after five to let other pitchers get some work in. Maybe he'll let Greinke go a little longer...
-
What an AB from Bregman.
14 pitches, finally doubles.
He's 3 for 3.

Been a Perfect night to watch a little baseball...

Ahem . . .
-
Nifty double play by Grienke.
More runs please.
-
The sparse crowd cheers Gordon's base on balls and then he is taken out on a double play. Zack has his groove back, it's like watching an artist.
-
Great fielding by Greinke to erase the walk.
-
Ahem . . .
I know... too close to the fire.
-
Still love that 97 division celebration.
So great to see Bagwell and Biggio so happy.
-
Sheepish inning, We need runs!
-
Who has more GGs...Greinke or Keuchel?
-
Servais tossed.
-
Who has more GGs...Greinke or Keuchel?
Greinke 5 to 4.
-
64mph swinging K's are a thing of beauty.
-
That was a sweet strike 3 to end the 7th.
-
Servais tossed.
Jomboy fodder
-
Let's get some runs boys
-
I bet Taylor Guilbeau is from Louisiana.... checks baseball-reference.... yes, yes he is.
-
Greinke flashing some leather these last coupla innings.
-
Man that was lightning quick.
-
Good reflexes.
-
Man that was lightning quick.
The game started two hours ago and it's top of the ninth.
-
Tucker bomb!
-
Tucker w the insurance
-
Tucker!!
-
Yehaw!
-
Headed to the bottom of the 9th.
7, 8, 9 due up
3-0 Astros
-
Damnit.
Hard to believe Jake made it that close.
-
Shit fuck!
-
Oh well.
-
Damn. If anyone could have gotten that ball would have been Jake.
-
Bottom 9
Murphy gets ahead 2-0, misses a change 2-1, fouls a fastball 2-2, grounds out to Altuve in the shift 4-3
Nola (replaced injured Gordon) misses a curve 0-1, takes a FB outside 1-1, misses another 1-2, takes a curve just outside 2-2, takes a change in the dirt 3-2, singles to center.
Jake dove but it was a couple of feet beyond him.
-
Damn. If anyone could have gotten that ball would have been Jake.
Gave it all he had. Just wasn’t hit very hard.
-
Regardless of what happens, it was a masterful pitching performance.
-

I'd like to see the Statcast report on how much ground he covered. That ball looked like it wouldn't land within 10 feet of anyone.
-
I want that Greinke in the postseason.
He was WOW tonight!!!!
-
Grienke settles back in.
Lopes takes a ball then misses a FB, misses another 1-2, change is called a ball but he really just missed the spot, then singled to right.
AJ comes to get Grienke.
-
Greinke out with two on, one out
-
And just like that, the tying run is coming to the plate.
-
Regardless of what happens, it was a masterful pitching performance.
Hear hear.
-
Amazing performance by Greinke.
-
Harris gets Long. 2 outs.
-
104 wins!
-
Harris in to pitch
Long gets ahead 2-0, takes a strike, then a ball 3-1, a strike 3-2, fouls (bat ends up in the dugout), fouls again (bat remains in his hands), looks at strike 3
Crawford takes a curve for a strike 0-1, lines out to Yuli
Final
Astros 3
Mariners 0
Awesome performance by Grienke
Magic number for best record is 1
-
I hope Julia gets to interview Greinke. That should be fun.
-
10% catch probability on the first hit.

Holbrook's strike zone tonight was damn near perfect all game long. With so many clown umpires out there calling all sorts of bullshit, it's a really bad look for Servais to get tossed bitching about the zone tonight.

He was just fucking tired of watching his shitty team get no-hit... again.
I believe the Mariners have been no-hit twice before this season

Man, I was rooting for Greinke. 5:30 am in Germany on. Weird.
-
Broadcast picked up on Grienke using his slider more early on then the slow curve.
He was just fantastic.
I think that was the first ball hit to centerfield. So many grounders. And 9 strikeouts.
-

No fucking way. If Jake can't get it, it can't be caught. Not even 10% of the time.
-
Looking back at the replay on Nola's hit, Jake was shaded a good bit over into RCF. Had he been straight up, he catches that ball.
-
Servais on Greinke post-game: It was art. He's out there just dealing and drawing it up the way he wants to. It's frustrating when he's on his game like that, because you really have to be disciplined at the plate. One of the things he's really good at is when he gets ahead in the count, the balls are just off the edge and they look like strikes. Veteran pitcher and he was really on top of his game tonight. Coming in after Cole, it's totally different styles.
-
1. Amazing effort by Jake. Not even in frame until the very end.
2. I agree with JV

Hit/catch probability is determined by exit velocity/launch angle and I don't think that where fielders are positioned plays much of a role. That's probably why it had 10% and not a lower number

Soft contact, well located.

He hung it inside.

He actually missed his spot. Chirinos wanted it up and away. I guess hoping for a pop-up or no swing and called strike? https://www.mlb.com/gameday/astros-vs-mariners/2019/09/25/566448#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=566448

It was a curve. Up and away? Nola had swung and missed two curves already. It was inside.

Chirinos set up outside and held his glove up to the top of the zone. The video shows that clearly.

It was a curve. He hung it inside. I do not much care where Chirinos had his glove. That often is a decoy. Greinke threw a curve.
