Springer 8
Altuve 4
Brantley 7
Bregman 6
Yordan DH
Yuli 3
Tucker 9
Diaz 5
Maldonado 2
Cole
-
Cole is really giving El Machete a workout in the 1st.
-
Yeah, Cole spiked 2 sliders, great job on the 2nd one to keep the run from scoring
Top 1: F7, single, WP moves runner to 2nd, 4-3 moves him to 3rd, K swinging ends the threat
Bot 1: Springer out by a half step on a highlight reel play in the hole by Andrus, F9, Brantley works a BB, then Bregman out by a hair on a routine GB that 3B was in really no hurry to get to first
-
Rangers set their franchise record for Ks in a season with Santana's strikeout in the 1st.
1494 and counting.
-
Top 2: 6-3, K swinging, K looking
Gotta go get dinner ready.
-
The Astros have a *team* slugging percentage of .512 for the season? That seems somewhat ridiculous.
-
I highly recommend the Astros hit more balls to whoever this guy is playing 3B

Can you imagine the fun if they still had Profar in the infield, too?

There are only 49 qualified players in baseball that have a slugging percentage higher than the Astros as a team... yeah that's pretty ridiculous
49 qualified players have a higher OBP
55 have a higher OPS
This offense is just plain historic in every sense of the word

Damn.
Thought Springer might've legged that one out.
Strike 2 was a super fat 92 mph FB. He's gotta be upset.
-
Nice snag, Tucker!
-
And Tucker nabs Calhoun at 2nd!
-
Allard has walked Machete twice.
-
Allard has walked Machete twice.
Wanted to get to Springer. Seems to know what he's doing.
-
8 LOBsters after 4 innings. Don't make us regret that.
-
I believe that the last time someone in the GZ said that Springer looked lost at the plate he hit a game winning HR, so I'd just like to point out that Springer looks lost at the plate tonight.
-
Get this man some runs!
-
Is it absurd or fitting that this historic lineup is getting blanked through 4 by Kolby Allard?

It's absurdly fitting.
-
Pina!!!
Nice job of 2 strike hitting by Alvarez to set that up.
2-0 Stros after 5
-
Piña Power!
-
300 Ks for Cole!
-
300th K for Cole ends the top of the 6th
-
300 Ks for Cole!
For those not watching the broadcast, he joins Pedro, Randy, Nolan, and sale as the only pitchers to accomplish that feat since 1980.

And he's the first Astro to do it since Mike Scott in 1986.
-
2/3 of an inning short of the Unit's record of fastest/fewest IP to 300
-
1 guy on the right side of the infield.
And that's exactly where Springer's ball goes. C'est la shift.

Only AL pitchers, right?
Plus, the .512 slugging percentage is their percentage at home, no?

Accomplish what?
-
Accomplish what?
300 Ks in the AL.
-
Angels just beat the Yanks.
-
What was MM thinking? He had no chance.
-
Poor throw from Machete allows runner on 3rd to score.
2-1.
-

Could be; I wasn't listening to the broadcast real carefully.
-
Altuve!
Over the pen in right!
-
100 mph at the letters.
That's freaking impressive.
-
300 Ks in the AL.
I'm glad you said this, I wasn't watching the game and was about to call bullshit because Max Scherzer struck out exactly 300 last season

Why is Correa not in the lineup?
-
I hope Hinch lets Cole back out to try to get one more k to make the short list of pitchers to have 19 double digit strikeouts.
-
Why is Correa not in the lineup?
They're easing him back. Scheduled day off.
ETA: He didn't get as many games in RR as they had hoped he would.

That's what I had hoped.
-
How is the rangers lone run earned? He doesn’t score if Maldonado doesn’t throw the ball into center?
-
Jesus, that ball got ou in negative time.
-
Get him outta there. Too many times through the order.

Ok, now I just want outs. And to keep the lead.
-
It is odd that they got JV out after 6 and Cole is still out there.

I think Cole may have talked them into it.
-
Exhale.
-
Whew. At first I thought Calhoun had done some damage there.
-
Shit: Lead-off walk.
-
Osuna in.
Leadoff walk.
Couldn't get the changeup close.
-
Single to left.
1st/2nd, no outs for Odor.
-
Osuna making me nervous.
-
Whew!

Magic number for the division: 2
The W clinches a playoff appearance.
Yankees loss gives the Astros 1 game lead for AL's best record.
Astros also hold the tiebreaker with NY.
-
And this little nugget that should put a smile on Astros fans faces:
Odor leads AL batters in strikeouts.
-
Odor leads AL batters in strikeouts.
The *only* good number for Odor is home runs; something like 27. Every other number is putrid.
-
Osuna making me nervous.
No, the Rangers are.
-

This sounds like my friends whenever I asked a girl out.

Cole is the 18th different pitcher to reach 300 Ks in a season since 1900.
3 of those 18 did it as Astros: Richard (twice), Scott, and Cole.
Ryan did it 6 times; 5 with the Angels and 1 in his first year in Arlington.
The Big Unit also did it 6 times, obviously none with Houston.

That was what my inner Snuffy said (more than a few times) a while ago, but like many of you guys I ended up out-marrying myself.
-
I'm glad you said this, I wasn't watching the game and was about to call bullshit because Max Scherzer struck out exactly 300 last season
I was very confused by the fact that he was the first Astros since Scott in 1986 to strike out 300 but Scott wasn't on the list of players who had struck out 300 since 1980.

Seriously?
