CFM v. JV
Hope the offense is there.
-
I wonder why Diaz isn't in the lineup. I would have thought that Toro would have been sent down when he was activated. Maybe Straw needed the playing time.

They want to see Toro.
-
JV looks excited.
Scoreless after a half.
-
I think it could be easy to be a fan of this Rays team. I don’t understand why Tampa doesn’t support them.
-
Springer has been really good at getting on base leading off the game lately.
-
That’s a bad strike 3 call but worse baserunning by Springer

-
Springer had a sign to run on the full count. Altuve took a pitch too close.

He was out either way.
-
As a bald man I've often felt like that guy in those SuperCuts commercials.
I'm not sure who the agency is but those are some good spots.
-
He was out either way.
Maybe. But make the guy make the play.

Yordan must be guessing to take that strike 3.
Caught a lot of plate.
-
Charlie *sigh* Freakin' Morton.
-
Yordan must be guessing to take that strike 3.
Caught a lot of plate.
I think a bunch of guys have been waiting for Morton's curve and he's thrown them aggressive fastballs.
-
Yordan must be guessing to take that strike 3.
Caught a lot of plate.
Right down the middle.
-
Way to go, Josh!
-
Josh with the 0-2 rbi knock!
-
Springer hit by 3-2 pitch.
Bases juiced for Altuve.
-
WTF?
-
Altuve's sac fly plates Chirinos, Josh gets hung up/ tagged (baiting them to cut the throw?), Altuve to 2nd.
2-0 Astros.
-
The Royals are selling for over $1B. Crane and his minority owners are all feeling a little more weighed down by their wallets than yesterday.

Brantley looks at strike 3.
Astros up 2-0 after 3.
-
WTF?
If you are talking about Reddick, he forced them to cut the ball to allow Chirinos to score.
-
CFM clinging to a pair of double plays so far.
-
That was not the recommended way to start your shut-down inning.
-
If you are talking about Reddick, he forced them to cut the ball to allow Chirinos to score.
Thanks. Gameday lacks some detail.
-
Leadoff double stranded at third.
Mid 4
2-0 Astros
-
Mischief managed.
-
My feed cut out on that deep ball to center.
Panic ensued; took me a few seconds to realize the rubber on third had tagged. Thought it was an rbi triple.
-
Hot shot off Charlie's butt gets Bregman to 1st.
-
Alvarez rips a double to right (ground rule, rule book, etc).
2nd/3rd no outs
-
Yuli rips a ball to the bullpen fence in left.
2 runs score.
Astros 4-0.
-
Toro moves Yuli to 3rd with a 6-3 chopper.
-
Chirinos homers to left.
6-0.
-
Chirinos homers to left.
6-0.
That was a bomb

I love our catching situation.
Also, Reddick is waking up.
-
Verlander may be wondering what those crooked symbols on the scoreboard mean.
-
Chirinos got a hold of that one.
-
Reddick doubles again.
-
Reddick doubles again.
Triples.
-
Reddick doubles again.
Why isn't that a triple?
-
Triples.
Indeed
-
Why isn't that a triple?
It was.
I was tending to one of the kids and mis-pbp'd.
-
Springer K and Altuve grounder end the inning.
Bottom of the order doing damage tonight.
-
Happy we're doing it, and all, but hard to watch Charlie get his ass kicked like that.
-
It was.
I was tending to one of the kids and mis-pbp'd.
Ok. Don't let it happen again.
-
Leadoff single goes just under Bregman's glove.
Next batter hits into a 4-6 FC (Bregman's throw to 1st is wide but bounces back to Yuli).
F9, F7 end the inning.
-
Happy we're doing it, and all, but hard to watch Charlie get his ass kicked like that.
No. It.Is.Not.

Bregman cost JV some pitches.

Bregman cost JV some pitches.
Yep.

Just recall over the past two seasons how often the Rays have kicked our ass.
-
Just recall over the past two seasons how often the Rays have kicked our ass.
3 of 4 to start the season.
-
Morton done after 4.
Kitredge (RHP) on.
Brantley rips a ball into the shift that ricochets off the leaping 2B's glove.
Streak to 19.
-
Bregman dribbles one thru the open right side.
1st/2nd for Alvarez.
-
I think that Yordan kid has a future.
-
3 run homer into the Crawford Boxes for Alvarez!
-
I knew he eventually would hit one in the Crawford Boxes.
-
Dude got a gift call and thought: I'll go back there again right now!
-
I knew he eventually would hit one in the Crawford Boxes.
First of many
-
Yordan is so good.
-
Yuli Ks (couldn't check up)
Toro singles to right.
-
First of many
The Berkman swing
-
Yordan is so good.
He better start stealing bases if he wants a 30-30 season.
-
The Berkman swing
Exactly who I was thinking of.
A hitter with power, not just a power hitter per Boguvesic.
-
He better start stealing bases if he wants a 30-30 season.
Oof.
-
4-0 RR in the 6th
Mayfield 2 RBI
Tucker 2 K
-
Jake to Center, Springer to right, Reddick to left.
-
The offense is apologizing for JV’s last two starts.
-
Jake to Center, Springer to right, Reddick to left.
Just resting Brantley?
-
WTF? As many times as these umpires fuck up balls and strikes, they need to grow thicker skin.
-
That was incredible.
-
What the fuck just happened?
-
Verlander gets a pop up then gives up a double.
As the ball is being fielded he barks at the hpu, who then tosses him with the ball in play.
-
"That's horse shit!"
-
The Berkman swing
Great call. That's what I immediately thought of.
-
What a cocksucker
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
When does the umpire get ejected for being a dick?
-
Even the TB tv guys are calling HPU thin-skinned.
-
The edge of this HPUs zone has been flickering all night both teams.
Thin skinned.
-
It must have been a cock-sucking call.
-
Verlander gets a pop up then gives up a double.

[/quote
Yeah, he was pissed about the pitch before the double not being strike three. He said one thing and walked away. Total bs.
-
That's crazy... what if Verlander had to back up a base on that play? Would anything he did have counted? Seriously, what the fuck?
-
Peacock gets a K and a 3U grounder to end the inning.
FU Blue.
-
We should hear from Mark in 3, 2 , 1 . . .
-
He better start stealing bases if he wants a 30-30 season.
Excellent

Do you want robot umpires? Because that is how you get robot umpires.

Not watching. Playing floorball.
-
Not watching. Playing floorball.
I bet he felt a disturbance in the force.
-
My wife had this question earlier tonight, and I don't know the answer: what's the actual definition of one runner passing another? Can they leapfrog one another between the bases as long as they cross the next base (or home plate) in the proper order?
-
Springer hit and Altuve double.
2nd/3rd no out.
-
That was workmanlike base running by Altuve.
-
Jake singles in Springer and Altuve.
-

Not in my opinion.
-
4-0 RR in the 6th
Mayfield 2 RBI
Tucker 2 K
Mayfield has 25 homers.
Tucker has 32.
Good example of not trusting all those AAA stats.
-
Pop up to shallow center drops for Bregman, Jake reads it beautifully and goes to 3rd.
-
Yordan's two-strike approach needs some fine-tuning.
-
Yordan Ks looking.
-
That was an amazing read by Jake.
-
Diaz batting for Yuli.
Line drive bounces off diving CFers glove, Jake scores.
12-0.
-
Mayfield has 25 homers.
Tucker has 32.
Good example of not trusting all those AAA stats.
Mayfield is hitting .300
Tucker is around .260.
-
Toro Ks swinging
-
Yordan Ks looking.
He needs to foul off close pitches.
-

Could be wrong as usual, but I believe the runner that passes the runner, even for a step or two, is out. No idea what happens to the trailing runner, as far as what base he is awarded.
-
E 1. Nothing uglier than E 1.
-
Slow tapper goes thru the pitcher's 5-hole.
Jake scores.
13-0.
-
Unless it's E 2.
-
Josh reaches on catcher's interference.
Bases juiced.
-

No. A runner may not pass another runner. The trailing runner is immediately out as soon as he passes a preceding runner.
-
Stop scoring. Remember Baltimore.
-
Springer walks.
So candidates for ugliest play:
E1
E2
Bases loaded 2 out walk trailing 13-0

Not for nothing, but that ball 4 was Pham's ball 3.
-
Looks to me that Altuve's swinging pretty free.
-

That's the way I've always thought about it, too. But if you adopt that point of view, you have to define some reference line that the trailing runner has to cross, much like for offsides in soccer. But in soccer there's a more-or-less obvious way to draw that line: it passes through the last defender's shoulder (I think) and, most importantly, it's parallel to the end line. What's the equivalent in baseball? Is the line a radial from home plate? Parallel to one of the base lines? It'll probably never come up outside of T-ball, but I'm curious.
-

That's exactly what I thought.
-
Altuve out 5-3.
14-0 Astros
-
Somebody grab pbp
-
Springer walks.
So candidates for ugliest play:
E1
E2
Bases loaded 2 out walk trailing 13-0
The ump show with a live ball was the ugliest play.

It’s not a point of view, it’s a codified rule. If the trailing runner gets closer to the next base than the preceding runner, he’s out. Does it have to be 100% of the trailing runner? What if the trailing runner has half of a spike on his back foot still entirely even with the preceding runner’s left nut? The rule book doesn’t get into that level of detail. Like a lot of baseball umpiring decisions, it’s a judgement call.
-
The ump show with a live ball was the ugliest play.

Pretty strong opinion about that.

Is this more or less cocksuckery than the ump (Jerry Meals?) who instigated the Cole shitshow?

That was Ron Culpa.
At least he just tossed Cintron.
-
And then AJ.
-
Emmanuel in RR: 8 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 K
4-0 Express in the 9th

**POSITION PLAYER PITCHING ALERT **

Emmanuel in RR: 8 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 K

Impressive performance. Wasn't his last outing considerably less impressive?

How many games left in their season?
Regular season ends Sunday, I think.
-

He has been great as a starter.
Bullpen trying to blow it in the 9th.
-
I'm not sure this Brosseaux kid has a future.
-
Brosseau brings an intensity to the mound somewhere between rehab session and long toss.
-
How many games left in their season?
Four after this series, I think. On the road.
Bases loaded, no out. Top of the order for SA. Sneed in pen.
-
Yordan's 2nd homer makes it 15-1.
To the 8th.
-
McHugh gives up a leadoff walk.
Up 15-1.
-
That's crazy... what if Verlander had to back up a base on that play? Would anything he did have counted? Seriously, what the fuck?
Here's a thing I just found:
Rule 8.01(d) "If an umpire disqualifies a player while a play is in progress, the disqualification shall not take effect until no further action is possible in that play."
-
Pop up, F8, F9.
Mid 8
15-1

Sneed on, two out, two on, 4-2.
4/3 now
-
If you want to manage in MLB it doesn't hurt to have played catcher for the Astros at some point.
-
Josh gets his 3rd hit (2B, 3B, S)
-
Springer drilled by a 78 mph FB.
-
Sneed with a K and the save!
RR wins 4-3.
-
Altuve hits into 6-5 FC.
End 8
-
Sneed with a K and the save!
RR wins 4-3.
That got dramatic.

Yup. RR’s pen ain’t good.

4-6-3 DP

I'm gonna assume Tony Eusebio is managing somewhere in the Caribbean.
-
Back to back singles, 2 on for Meadows.
-
Nice play to end the game.
-
Nice sliding stop by Altuve for the 4-3 game-ending play.
15-1 Astros
-
Oakland beat KC 2-1
NYY leads Sea 5-0 in the 4th
-
CFM v. JV
Hope the offense is there.
Hopes do come true.

I actually had just gotten to a bar post floorball and had loaded the game on my phone just a few minutes before this happened.
I said "What in the fuck?" loud enough that people on both sides or our table looked over at me uneasily.
What a fucking dildo. Altuve punched out in the first on a pitch almost exactly that same distance off the plate, just a little higher. After some review this morning, dude's strike zone was terrible on and off the outside corner.
-

I had the same thought post-ejection about the called strike three on Altuve in the first. Same pitch.

I'd like to think he's a hitting coach somewhere. That guy could roll out of bed, be sitting on the can with a beer in his hand and still put a pretty good swing on the ball.
