That is the Bregman swing.
Man, if he really gets back to being last year's Bregman....
-
The CWS shift is killing Yordan.
-
Bottom of the 1st
Miley pitching
Jon Jay grounds to Altuve who bobbles, recovers and throws to retire Jay 4-3
Tim Anderson flies out to Marisnick in LCF
Jose Abreu hits a fly to LF, Brantley misjudges it and Alvarez reaches 2nd on a double.

Yuli goes yard for his 24th HR of the year.
Robby goes down swinging
Jake bunts GO 1-3
Astros lead 2-0
-
The CWS shift is killing Yordan.
It's almost like they scout the players or something...
-
Sure would be nice to stop making STUPID FUCKING MISTAKES in the field.
Fucking christ.
-
CATCH THE MOTHERFUCKIG BALL
-
Catching balls is a good thing
-
The guys are fielding like shit and the pitchers are giving up a fuckton of baserunners. Hard to watch.
-
What the ever-loving fuck was that, Miley???
-
Who are these guys?
-
How many ways can they fuck up on defense in one inning?
-
Un fucking believable.
Absolute fucking garbage.
-
jesus
-
It’s been a long time since I saw this kind of shit from this team. Plenty of time to turn it around though.
-
Working toward the 5th potential out of the inning... And there's 1 out.
-
Working toward the 5th potential out of the inning... And there's 1 out.
Instead of outs, here, here's second base.
-
What crappy defense. Yuli, Correa, Miley, Chirinos
-
What crappy defense. Yuli, Correa, Miley, Chirinos
Bregman too. Couldn't catch the throw behind the runner from Correa.
-
This inning just keeps getting worse.
-
Glad to see that the shitass malaise from the nightcap game carried over so well.
This is just fucking sad.
-
Urge to kill...rising
-
I just clicked on Gameday and read through the PBP and this inning looks to be a masterpiece of clusterfuckery.
-
Bottom of the 2nd
Elloy Jimenez reaches 2nd on a grounder to short when Yuli can't handle the throw from Carlos. Error on Gurriel
Wellington Castillo doubles on a line drive to CF, Jimenez scores.
Ryan Goins called out on strikes.
Adam Engel hits a flair to shallow LF, Correa should have got Castillo (who over ran third) but instead runners at second and third as Engel advance on the mishandled throw.
Yolmer Sanchez bunts and Miley glove flips ball to backstop. Wellington scores, Engel scores, Sanchez to second.
Jay chops a grounder over Bregman's head, runners on the corners
Anderson singles on the ground to RF, Sanchez scores, runners on first and second.
Abreu grounds in to DP 5-4-3
end of 2nd Astros 2 White Sox 4
-
And we get to take this pitching, offense, and defense into a four game set vs the A’s! Hope they turn it around in innings 3-9.
-
Holy fuck. Six inches off the outside corner for strike 2 on Correa.
-
If everyone who fucked up goes out and gets a hit, we should bat around.
-
Holy fuck. Six inches off the outside corner for strike 2 on Correa.
That was more than 6 inches.
-
If everyone who fucked up goes out and gets a hit, we should bat around.
Twice.
-
Surprised Alvarez saw some strikes....
-
You guys are way ahead of my XM feed. Must...stop...refreshing...page
-
Yordan is clearly going to have to concentrate on going the other way. Strike one would have been an outSTANding time to do that. It looked like he realized that, too, after the fact.
-
Pulling back to tie after the bottom of the 2nd is no small feat.
Keep going, guys!
Start fielding like you are hitting now.
-
Yordan is clearly going to have to concentrate on going the other way. Strike one would have been an outSTANding time to do that. It looked like he realized that, too, after the fact.
He got the run in. All good.
-
Gameday sez dude wanted no part of Yuli.
-
Chirinos bats with the sacks full....
-
Chirinos works the count 2-0, then gets a pitch he's swung and missed at 55000 times this year and takes a wild ass swing.
Luckily he missed it.
Then chases THE SAME FUCKING PITCH AGAIN.
ROBBY! WAKE THE FUCK UP!
-
Yordan is clearly going to have to concentrate on going the other way. Strike one would have been an outSTANding time to do that. It looked like he realized that, too, after the fact.
He was great at that in RR and early with the Stros. He'll adjust.
-
Chirinos
bats Ks with the sacks full....
-
Gameday sez dude wanted no part of Yuli.
Threw him good pitches to hit.
-
Chirinos is just straight up brutal with high strikes.
That was putrid, especially considering how on the ropes their pitcher was.
-
Top of 3rd
Springer singles on a groundr to RF
Altuve singles on a ground ball to LF
Brantley singles on a line drive to LF to load the bases with no outs.
Bregman grounds out 5-3, Springer scores. Altuve and Brantley each advance a base.
Yordan grounds out 4-3, Altuve scores, Brantley to third
Correa walks
Yuli walk to load the bases
Chrinos strikes out
middle of 3 all tied at 4
-
Threw him good pitches to hit.
Interesting. Gameday indicated none of the pitches were close to the strike zone.
-
Chirinos looked defeated after strike one in that AB. Blum on his ass for chasing high FBs.
-
So many soft contact hits the last two days.
-
Chirinos is just straight up brutal with high strikes.
That was putrid, especially considering how on the ropes their pitcher was.
Chirinos is exactly who the opponent would want in that situation.
-
Astros lead 4-0, unless you count 4 unearned runs....
-
Oh good, now Miley is imploding after the offense got him back even.
-
Miley trying to untie the game.
-
God dammit
-
Interesting. Gameday indicated none of the pitches were close to the strike zone.
Crazy wrong
-
Crazy wrong
You realize he was talking about Yuli, not Chirinos, right?
-
Nice try for triple play, now 6-4 w/ 2 outs.
-
Bottom of 3

I just rewatched the at bat.
first pitch, 6 inches outside
second pitch, 8 inches down and in
third pitch, 7 inches inside
fourth pitch , 8 inches down and in.
which ones were good pitches to hit?
-
That inning Miley said, if they are gonna score, they have to be earned runs.

I do not remember. Most of them. He did not like one of the calls.
-
I do not remember. Most of them. He did not like one of the calls.
You're obviously thinking of someone other than Yuli, then. Yuli had a 4 pitch walk, so I doubt he's disappointed with the calls.
-
Jesus Fucking Christ, Cuzzi. Your strike zone is awful.
-
You're obviously thinking of someone other than Yuli, then.
Oh, I thought you were talking about Yordan. You are correct re Yuli.
-
Nice sliding catch by RF Jay against Marisnick for 1st out.
-
Oh, I thought you were talking about Yordan. You are correct re Yuli.
That 'splains it. :)
Yuli was the original subject.
-
That 'splains it. :)

Sorry.
-
Back to hitting shitty pop ups. Thrilling.
-
Yeah, they wanted no part of Yuli.
-
Top of 4th
Marisnick is out on a fly caught in RF foul territory.
Springer pops out to 2nd
Altuve pops out to third in foul territory.
Middle of 4 White Sox 6 Astros 4

Better wake up, guys. Looking at three losses in last four.
-
Worst Miley start of the year?
-
Better wake up, guys. Looking at three losses in last four.
As long as they win two out of three I'm happy. I don't wanna be sad.
-
God dammit again.
-
Worst Miley start of the year?
I was going to try to refute that, but after the rbi triple... not so much.
-
I was going to try to refute that, but after the rbi triple... not so much.
well, might not be an rbi triple afterall.
-
What is the deal with Miley throwing absolute batting practice knowing the dire situation for our bullpen? Jeez this is brutal.
-
That RF corner bites us this time.
Did Sanchez miss 3B???
-
As long as they win two out of three I'm happy. I don't wanna be sad.
My comment included a possible loss today.
-
This is just putrid ass baseball.
I can't believe how shitty Miley was today, not to mention the defense.
-

Both. Do not look ready to play.
-
Bottom of 4
Sanchez walks
Jay lines out to RF
Anderson triples to RF. Sanchez score. Astros challenge the call as the ball became lodged under the outfield wall padding. Over-ruled to ground rule double, Sanchez to third.
McHugh in for Miley
-
My comment included a possible loss today.
I know....
-
I was going to try to refute that, but after the rbi triple... not so much.
He didn't exactly have a lot of help with the gloves, but he sure didn't help himself either.

McHugh in for Miley
Abreu sac fly to RF, Sanchez scores

End of 4 White Sox lead the Astros 7-4
-
Somebody want to pick up PBP, I got to take a call.
-
He didn't exactly have a lot of help with the gloves, but he sure didn't help himself either.
He definitely didn't get any help (including from himself), but throwing BP doesn't help much either.
-
It's August, so time for uncharacteristic bad play on defense, ineffective offense, and boneheaded choices on the basepsths.

esp after a DH....

esp after a DH....
His “so” was supposed to be “no.”
-
Should that be scored as an E3-3-3-3?
-
His “so” was supposed to be “no.”
Maybe the 'Stros misread it also....
-
Yordan swung at ball 4 and got lucky. Cost him an AB though.

PRIDE.

Chirinos sneaks a glance at Goins as he Ks on a high strike from McHugh....
He understands...
-
🍍
-
Kalas must have the squirts.
We suddenly were left with Blum flying solo to call Yuli's homer.
-
Chirinos smash up the middle - no, that's the bat - pop hit b/t pitcher, 2b, & 1b. No one covering 1st.
It's a hit!
-
Can Yuli just take every AB where he isn't already a baserunner?
-
Anderson is just singlehandedly kicking the fuck out of the Astros pitching staff.
-
After the first game yesterday, two wins looked certain and maybe a sweep. Now....
-
Shit. We had to hold them at 7-5.
-
Top 6th, 7-4 WSox
Yuli line drive HR, just over the fence
IF "hit" by Chirinos

-
WTH is Yordan waiting for?!
-
3-2 pitch on Correa was CLOSE.
-
Well that sucked.
-
Well, that inning ended with a thud.
-
Motherfucker. A little pitch selection would've been nice, Diaz.
-
Damn. First pitch.
That is why you take a chance and send runners.
-
WTH is Yordan waiting for?!
Missed his chance on that last foul ball, then chased low.
-
A sac fly to tie it would have been nice.
-
It’s like they are not trying to win.
-
A sac fly to toe it would have been nice.
Leaving Chirinos in to strikeout would have been better than that.
-
Top 7th, 8-5 WSox, light rain
Altuve (RF) & Brantley (LF) lead off the top of 7th w/ hits, 1st & 3rd
Bregman !B scores Altuve, Brantley to 2B

That loss on Sunday broke their brains.
-
Missed his chance on that last foul ball, then chased low.
Set himself up to k after looking at strikes 1 and 2 right in his wheelhouse.
-
Yordan looks just fine in LF.
-
Good read by Alvarez on the Line out!
-
That was disappointing.
-
That loss on Sunday broke their brains.
They played lackluster Friday night too.
-
For fuck's sake.
Maybe, just for one fucking inning, stop being fucking terrible?!
WHY!?
-
Crappy defense, crappy pitching
-
I was thinking after we tied it at 4 that it was looking like an 11-9 kind of game. No bets on who the winner is, though.

Álvarez is 0 for Chicago. Lots of RBI chances.

Jose, he's running pitches in on the hands of righties.
"Ok."
-
Fuck! Great swing by Bregman. Bad luck.
-
Dang.
Like that approach by Alex, Pitch was just *this* much better than his swing.
-
Damn. No shift for Bregman.
-
Correa JUST missed hitting himself in the face after he dropped his bat and it bounced back at his head.
-
Juiced again for Yuli.
-
Yuli has taken a fat pitch for strike one both of his last at bats.
Fuck.
-
Shit. Line drive caught by CFer.
-
Hold them here

Springer PO to SS
Altuve, also scoring Marisnick, ties it w/ a HR to LF (new game!)

The AL West is open for business...
Especially since our pen is in shambles after the past 2 days plus verlander only pitching 5.

9 runs on 15 hits and you still get your ass kicked. At least someone found the offense.

It's like a tin lining in an EF-5, but at least this thing didn't go to extra innings...

Astros went like 18-4 and then 1-3, that's baseball. No need to get on the ledge

Spack should give you a timeout.

Fwiw (probably nothing), the Nats are beating the brains out of Bauer right now. 6-run 5th inning, and still only 1 out.
-
Spack should give you a timeout.
I'm glad everyone else thinks that Spleen's posts are nonsense, because frankly I'm pretty nervous about missing Cole and the bullpen imploding repeatedly.

Stop
Sorry. It's how I vent instead of breaking things...

I'm definitely concerned. I don't think they're going to lose a 10-game lead, but they're going to have to play a lot better than this if they want to play more than a handful of games in October.
-

Pressly outing today is concerning. I did not mind the walk to Abreu, but 0-2? We also have not seen Osuna since Sunday so no way to know if he has bounced back.
The defense today was the worst part for me.

The bullpen is the biggest problem. It's not fully recovered from the beating it took midseason when 1. All the injuries to the offense led to a long string of low-scoring, close games with the pen having to grind out multiple high leverage innings almost every night. 2. A fluky run of extra-inning games. 3. Then the issues with the starting rotation forcing them to pitch lots of bullpen innings 2 out of every 5 games. If Cole is out for a while (and I'm guessing they'll be conservative with him because a hamstring on a pitcher is major bad mojo) that means more hard work for the pen at least once every 5 games.
Ideally they could bring up extra pitchers to eat lots of innings in September, rest the bullpen regulars and not worry too much about the details... but that would assume they could coast through the last month. Messing up these next couple of weeks would mean not being able to finish off the A's and not getting a chance to rest people.

Amen and amen!
-
Nervous about what?
Not hanging on to the cushion.
Entering the playoffs flat and shitting the bed against an inferior team.
Sucking in general.
Cole's hamstring falling off.
A meteor hitting Earth and not landing directly on Wrigley Field.
Lots of stuff.

I suspect there are 30 ML bullpens running on fumes by this time of the year.

No, it’s not. The Astros have a 9.5 game lead with 41 games left.
-
I'm glad everyone else thinks that Spleen's posts are nonsense, because frankly I'm pretty nervous about missing Cole and the bullpen imploding repeatedly.
There is a difference between being nervous about some cracks in the armor and declaring the team will blow a 9.5 game lead with 41 games left.
That said, the bullpen is a big concern right now, and they need to get Pressly and Osuna right by the time October comes around.

Open for business does not mean the Astros will blow a 9.5 game lead. It means there's a CHANCE to blow a 9.5 game lead.
Almost 10 games with 40 to play should be comfortable.
Personally, I don't feel that comfortable right now.
A few wins in a row would certainly calm my nerves though.

It's good timing that this stretch of putridity precedes the Oakland series.
Right the ship and set the tone for the final 6 weeks of the season.
-
Maybe part of the problem is that Kalas and Blum already have them in the World Series. During the Baltimore series they spoke about how Hinch might structure the rotation to maximize Grienke's hitting. To their credit that have not yet awarded home field advantage to the Astros.

Nope. As I said, you do not beat a team 23-2 without consequences. This is humble pie delivered by the BBGs.

If we're being totally honest, I kind of felt like the Orioles deserved to win the 8-7 game after Kalas just wouldn't shut up about how every break was going the Astros way for the entire game.
It was a.) really obnoxious and b.) poetic justice.

I understand the notion of something being a "bad look" based on things people say. I just find it ridiculous when people start saying that something a person says actually has an outcome on what happens on the field. I mean... really?

Do the players hear the broadcast and react to it? No.
It is possible that the same thoughts were going through the Astro players heads and their egos suffered the consequences. Maybe?
Moral of the story, just enjoy the ride and don't rub your good fortune in others faces.

Ask me if I give a fuck.
For a robot built on a space station made out of a gumball dispenser, you've got a really shitty attitude.

Ooh, his feelings are hurt. So sorry. One can never tell who the sensitive ones are. Thought you’d been around long enough to take it, but guess not.
Here is a tip. Do not piss HH off. He’ll make you cry.
He also is not a fan of hubris.

Really? "Ooh?" Did you do that with little baby talk sounds? Are you 12?
And what the hell does HH have to do with this? Why are you dragging him into it? You need backup or something?
Not believing in magical beings that control the outcome of baseball games is hubris? Got it. And if they hate arrogance, they must hate the fuck out of you, as you're the most arrogant asshole on this site.

Let's take about 20 percent off there, Squirrely Tom.
Coming in a little too hot.

For the record, I believe in the BBGs, and give them all the respect I can. Baseball is a game that sets you up for failure and will humble you quickly. You'd better believe in something.

Thanks, but let him go. At least I am #1 in something and don’t want him after the whole family.

You're right. That was a bit much. My apologies to you and your dad.

Edit: I guess we can just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

All good. Tempers flare a bit when a good team scuffles.

Even worse is having to get up early to go to the airport.

Ahh, but you're probably going to the airport to go off to somewhere fun. So that's much better than getting up early to go to work.

Actually, I am going to a funeral in California-my cousin’s husband who had Alzheimer’s and who was in hospice for several months. The fun part will be seeing my five cousins. I rarely see any of them, and despite the circumstances, this will be a nice but brief reunion.
My 100% fun trip is in September.

Well, I stepped in that one. Sorry about the purpose of the trip, but enjoy the reunion regardless of the circumstances. I got to see a bunch of relatives that I hadn't seen in quite a while when we were up in Minnesota in July, and it was really nice to catch up with everybody.

No, no. Tragic for his wife and kids, of course, but he was somewhat older than she and had been in very bad shape for months. His death has been expected. I am looking forward to the catching up part also.
