Hopefully it's a nice crisp Sunday afternoon game. Otherwise I don't know what we're gonna talk about.
-
T1:
Springer pops out F2 behind the plate
Altuve swings through a meatball...tries to bunt a ball in the dirt...swings at another in the dirt and grounds out softly 6-3
Brantley strikes out swinging at a slider in the dirt
No score
-
I hate 2-strike hits.
-
Of course Verlander isn't sharp early.
-
B1:
Villar...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Mancini singles to RF
Santander...0-2...bloops a single to RF, Mancini to 2B
Severino...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Peterson doubles to RF, Mancini scores, Santander to 3B...hanging slider right in the center square
Alberto pops out F3 on the first pitch
1-0 Orioles
-
Devo with a slick catch on Correa's fucking BOMB to left center!
-
Just the bullpen? Really?
-
That rib has healed up quite nicely.

-
Correa!!!
Not quite as far as last night, but into the Astros pen...3-1
-
Julia reporting that Brocamonte, who is usually prepared with his glove on during Correa's home run yesterday, didn't have his glove so he whipped off his hat and was ready to make a play, then watched in shock as the ball sailed over his head and the bullpen.
-
Man, fuck you Villar.
Reddick absolutely robbed on a great diving play.
-
T2:
Bregman...full count...walks
Alvarez flairs a single to CF, Bregman to 2B
Correa homers to LCF, Bregman scores, Alvarez scores
Diaz...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
Chirinos...0-2...flies out F9
Reddick...2-0...takes one at the ankles for strike one...lines one up the middle, Villar dives into LCF, stabs it and throws a bullet to 1B to rob poor Josh
But the Astros do a little damage...lead 3-1
-
No luck for the guy who needs it most.

Man, fuck you Villar.
Reddick absolutely robbed on a great diving play.
It's official: Reddick is in the worst kind of slump.
-
Lots of pitches. He's getting in front of people, but can't finish them off.
-
JV not looking sharp...3-2, O's on 2B and 3B with two out...
-
B2:
Sisco singles to RF...another 2-strike hit
Davis strikes out swinging
Ruiz...0-2...takes strike three for a ball...flies out F8
Villar...full up...walks, Sisco to 2B
Mancini singles to LF, Sisco scores, throw to 3B is wild and JV with a diving stop to keep it from going into the dugout...Mancini to 2B on the TE7
Santander...0-2...strikes out swinging
3-2 Astros
-
Soft contact stuff falling in. Pitch count will be his issue.
-
Soft contact stuff falling in. Pitch count will be his issue.
He could use a quick inning or two.
-
He could use a quick inning or two.
Yep. Over 50 after 2.
-
Bregman wants that one back.
-
T3:
Springer singles to RCF
Altuve...flailing...flies out softly F9
Brantley...full count...flies out F8 in front of the track, TK crying yard
Bregman pops to shallow LF
3-2 Astros
-
Man, JV is all kinds of out of whack today. Who's the long man? McHugh? I think he pitched the last two nights.
-
2out double followed by an 0-2 hbp for the Sorioles.
-
B3:
Severino...0-2...strikes out looking
Peterson strikes out swinging
Alberto doubles down the LF line

Correa grounds out 4-3
Diaz...3-0...fouls off ball four...walks
Chirinos...0-2...1-2...strikes out looking
3-2 Astros
-
SWING THE MOTHERFUCKING BATS!
Jesus Christ, quit watching strike 3!
-
I've got a bad feeling about this.
-
B4:
Ruiz strikes out swinging
Villar singles to LF
Mancini...pops behind 1B in foul territory...Diaz gives it a good bid, but just can't get there...another chance...strikes out swinging, Villar steals 2B, but Villar called out on batter interference...the old SOTO double play
3-2 Astros
-
I have a slightly better feeling about it.
-
I have a slightly better feeling about it.
During the end of inning commercial?
-
That was helpful. Now it's time to stop fucking around and put some distance between the two teams.
-
T5:
Reddick...0-2...flies out F7
Springer...3-0...flies out F7
Altuve...0-2...1-2...2-2...checks his swing to make it 3-2...walks
Brantley hit by the first pitch, Altuve to 2B
Bregman...0-2...flies out F9 on a sliding catch in deep RCF
3-2 Astros
-
Jesus, this HPU has gone off the rails in the last inning and change. Called a pitch 6 inches outside a strike on Bregman earlier then just totally whiffed on a curveball that got plenty of zone on the bottom of the inside corner.
-

And that shitty missed call costs the Astros a run.
-
And we're tied...O's with the go ahead run at 3B, one out..
-
And that shitty missed call costs the Astros a run.
Bingo.
-
Bingo.
TWO runs now.
Thanks blue.
-
And that shitty missed call costs the Astros a run.
Two.
-
Sac fly gives the Os the lead.
-
B5:
Santander strikes out looking
Severino doubles down the LF line
Peterson...2-2...takes strike three to fill the count...of course triples over Springe's head, Severino scores
Alberto...infield in...flies out F7 in foul territory...Brantley with a running catch, but in no position to make a trhow as Peterson scores easily
Sisco...full count...strikes out looking.
But the O's take a 4-3 lead.
-
T6:
Alvarez flies out F6
Correa flies out F9
Diaz singles to LF
Chirinos...0-2...strikes out swinging
4-3 Orioles
-
What a pathetic showing against a guy with an almost 5 ERA.
-
What a pathetic showing against a guy with an almost 5 ERA.
3 runs in 6 innings = 4.50 ERA. Not that far off.

Sir, the internet is no place for rational, well reasoned thoughts.
-
Sir, the internet is no place for rational, well reasoned thoughts.
Or at least the GZ.
-
Dammit.
0-2 to 3-2 to rbi single.
Now another single puts runners on the corners.
-
B6:
Devo in
Davis...0-2...strikes out swinging
Ruiz...0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...strikes out swinging
Villar singles to LF
Villar steals 2B
Mancini...0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...singles to LF, Villar scores
Santander doubles to RF, Mancini to 3B
Severino strikes out looking
5-3 Orioles
-
Not playing to the standard we've come to expect.
-
There we go! Maybe that will be the start of something.
-
Springer smacked that one good.
-
Springer smacked that one good.
Altuve didn't.
-
Altuve didn't.
Not a good swing, but at least he managed to punch in the runner from 3B. There have been times when he didn't.
-
Brantley carved up on three pitches.
-
Not a good swing, but at least he managed to punch in the runner from 3B. There have been times when he didn't.
Yep.
-
Didn't really want to pitch to Bregman.
-
T7:
Armstrong in for the O's
Reddick singles to LF
Springer...0-2...doubles to LF, Reddick to 3B
Altuve flails at a 3-1 pitch in the dirt and grounds out 6-3 as Reddick scores
That's all for Armstrong, Fry in
Brantley...0-2...takes a meatball down the center for strike three
Bregman...3-0...walks...Fry had no interest in throwing anything close
Alvarez...man he just missed one...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging at a slider in the dirt
5-4 Orioles at the stretch
-
Exploited the youngster.
-
Shit.
-
Snuck that FB in there at 1-2. No way Alvarez was gonna see another one.
-
We did what yesterday? Announcers still reminding us
-
Great play by Correa! Just enough stretch by Diaz.
-
Great play by Correa.
Replay overturns the safe call.
-
B7:
Harris in
Peterson strikes out swinging
Alberto...0-2...1-2...grounds to SS, Correa backhands it in the hole, leaps and makes a strong throw, ruled safe...Astroa challenging ...clearly out...yep, overturned...put a blue star next to that one
Sisco lines out F7
5-4 Os
-
Tying run on 2nd with 1 out.
-
T8:
Castro in
Correa singles to LF
Diaz punches a shallow popout to CF
Wild pitch...Correa to 2B
Chirinos strikes out swinging at a pitch three feet off the plate
That's all for Castro, Givens in
Someone finish PBP
-
No way Chirinos was going to see a FB. Pitcher shook it off and started his delivery in the same motion.
-
Reddick gets more lousy ball-strike calls than anybody else on the team.
-
Reddick gets more lousy ball-strike calls than anybody else on the team.
Yep.
Then he couldn't climb the ladder.
2 innings in a row runner reaches second but doesn't budge.
-
So Reddick strikes out swinging
5-4 Os
-
Someone call it!
-
Not the Astros' day.
-
Soft serve galore for the O's.
-
I was really hoping for Mancini to get rung up on a close pitch so we could watch him throw another temper tantrum.
-
Walk loads the bases.
Biagini is on an island- no one warming up.
-
Well that was fucking terrifying.
-
Anyone else get worried on that pop up?
-
Anyone else get worried on that pop up?
(see above)
-
This HPU can't decide where the edge of the zone is.
-
Anyone else get worried on that pop up?
What Mark said
-
Anyone else get worried on that pop up?
Almost looked like Correa and Brantley were trying to deke the runners.
-
(see above)
When Brantley went down, I was fully expecting it to doink right in front of him.
-
And that was just as scary.
-
And that was just as scary.
WHEW!
-
Whew.
-
That was almost a "payback's a bitch" moment.
-
Goodness.
Now let's scratch out a couple of runs please.
-
Time to punch some runs across
-
Let's go!
-
Damn, a Jose bunt that worked.
-
Springer with a single to LF, followed by a bunt single by Altuve...two on, nobody out..
-
Damn, a Jose bunt that worked.
That's the one this year.
Good timing.
-
Rats, Brantley missed his pitch there.
-
But he didn't miss that one!
-
Uncle Mike!!!!!!
-
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?!
-
UNCLE MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Unexpected
-
There's one itch, scratched.
-
Brantley with a 2-run triple that turns into a Little League home run on the E9!
Astros lead 7-5
-
holy shit!!
-
Yesterday I was driving during the game, and Sparks and Ford were talking about how the Orioles have about 4 DHs playing positions currently. Lots of hitting, not much fielding.
I'd say that was a pretty good example of it.
-
I guess Jake is probably warming up.
-
I still didn't see what the hell was going on in the corner.
-
Wow.
-
I still didn't see what the hell was going on in the corner.
No one has yet.
Wow.
-
Oh fuck, ouch. Got him right in the R in Bregman.
That was nasty.
-
Ouch.
-
That didn't look accidental.
-
Oh Christ, Santan-DINGO totally watermelon seeded the throw on that play.
Hahaha. Ug-a-ly.
-
That was a pretty shitty HBP. I guess Bregman's ok, but that's going to hurt for a while.
-
That didn't look accidental.
Same thought here, and I'm not one that usually leans in that direction.
-
That didn't look accidental.
One got a way. I don't think it was intentional. No reason for it.
-
Underrated moment in the Brantley play:
Springer heading home while looking back and waving Altuve home.
Pettis/Springer double windmill.
-
Oh Christ, Santan-DINGO totally watermelon seeded the throw on that play.
Hahaha. Ug-a-ly.
Hysterical
-
Hysterical
That needs some yakety sax playing under it.
-
One got a way. I don't think it was intentional. No reason for it.
hope so.
-
Yordan looked out on replay.
-
Ha! Safe. Or call stands.
Alvarez always hustles down the line, right HH?
-
Yordan looked out on replay.
Too close to overturn.
-
Yordan looked out on replay.
Yordan almost clocked at the residential speed limit trucking down the line.
28.6!
-
Ha! Safe. Or call stands.
Alvarez always hustles down the line, right HH?
As far as I know he always does. That doesn't mean he's fast or that he had a good read on that ball into LF last week.
-
This is one long-ass game.
-
This is one long-ass game.
I think last night was already 40 minutes faster.
-
As far as I know he always does. That doesn't mean he's fast or that he had a good read on that ball into LF last week.
Well I don't think he always does. But like Blummer said, when there's a hit on the line lots of guys get a speed boost.
-
This is one long-ass game.
Solution, make games seven innings. High end pitchers go seven innings for complete games which is long long they’re allowed now
-
Have you ever seen a ballplayer made demonstratively happier by success than Springer? 'Cause I haven't. He's got to be so much fun to play with.
-
This HPU is a fucking dildo.
-
I hope that wasn't intentional. stupid if it was.
-
A lot closer at home than I thought it would be.
-
I hope that wasn't intentional. stupid if it was.
Agree.
Wow, that would have been quite the way to end the game.
-
This HPU is a fucking dildo.
A cheap one at that.
-
I hope that wasn't intentional. stupid if it was.
No fucking way that was intentional.
You'd be insane to put the tying run on to retaliate.
-
I don't know why that other guy is still on 1st, but I guess he was afraid Bregman would cut the throw and nail him.
-
No fucking way that was intentional.
You'd be insane to put the tying run on to retaliate.
He squeezed it and it ran inside.
-
Doesn't Osuna have a history of intentionally hitting people?
-
Well fuck
-
Holy shit.
-
FUCKING HELL
-
Well shit.
-
Jesus Fucking Christ, Osuna. What an absolute garbage 2 strike pitch.
Fucking meatball.
-
That was unfortunate.
-
That's probably Ruiz's first homer of the year, too.
-
That's probably Ruiz's first homer of the year, too.
Actually his 7th. Just because he's a banjo hitting 9-hole hitter, a strikeout looking for a place to happen, doesn't mean he doesn't punish 2-strike hanging breaking balls belt high right down the center of the plate.
-
That's probably Ruiz's first homer of the year, too.
I'm wrong: it's his 7th. I should have known that a powerful .349 slugging percentage would have had more.
-
What a lame ass squandering of a comeback.
-
Someone needs to kick Osuna in the nuts.
-
That was brutal.
-
That's probably Ruiz's first homer of the year, too.
Since last night.
-
Sparks said it was a changeup. Was it?
-
Sparks said it was a changeup. Was it?
I don't know if that one was, but I think Blum said that the three before it all were.
My dad always taught me "don't throw changeups to bad hitters". Especially not several times in a row so they can time it.
-
Sparks said it was a changeup. Was it?
Gameday agrees.
-
Since last night.
Ruiz was hitting so bad he was sent to the minors a few weeks ago. Last night was he first game since being called back up. Two HRs, including the walk off monster shot today.
-
Gameday agrees.
Sparks also believes the HBP was retaliation and complimented Osuna for taking up for Bregman.
That loss likely was karma. Baltimore outplayed us all day.
-
Sparks said it was a changeup. Was it?
It was an offspeed pitch for sure. He kept throwing them to the 9-hole hitter, and he eventually caught up to one.
-

Had to be a scouting report thing. Terrible location.
-

I thought it was a lame HBP if intentional and was mildly surprised Correa didn't get the lead runner at third on the groundout. Of course I have no understanding of clubhouse dynamics and don't know if Bregman was in a position to take a throw.
-

I'm assuming the same thing. That was the pitch he wanted to throw, just left it up.
-

Did not see it, but Sparks agreed the baserunning was bad. With a two run lead, Correa probably opted for the easy out.
-
I thought the play at the plate was worth a second look.
-

You get the out. The runner doesn't mean anything, unless they get another runner. Take the easier out and keep the tying run off base.
-

Was listening on the radio. Sparks expected another change and said “keep it low and away.”
-
I thought the play at the plate was worth a second look.
From the look from LF, there seemed to be a legit question of whether he got his arm on the plate before he was tagged.
-
Was listening on the radio. Sparks expected another change and said “keep it low and away.”
And it was up and over the middle of the plate. It was a batting practice fastball.
-

Very possible that he was out

Yep. The HBP was the tying run. That is what I told Sparks when he was celebrating protection.

Yeah I know, I just thought it was actually a pretty blatant mistake on the part of the runner.
And I agree about the play at the plate. OTOH, does NY not automatically "review" scoring plays in the 9th inning?
-

and if you get the lead runner on an easy play, the fly ball does not score a run.
That still leaves the pitch to Ruiz.
-

Not that I know of. I'm not aware of any automatic review or a rule that says you can't challenge in the 9th.
-
That still leaves the pitch to Ruiz.
After all of the other stuff, it's still the Astros closer against the O's #9 hitter with 2 outs. Osuna has to close that deal.
-

Exactly. You had a 2-run lead and your closer in to face the bottom half of the worst lineup in the league. You have to make pitches.
-

Maybe I'm thinking of the NFL.
Anyway I'm sure they'd've challenged if they thought they had it. Hinch should've had one to spare and either way he could have asked the crew chief to initiate a review.

Live he looked out, and on replay it was awfully close. I certainly think it was worth a challenge.

Seems so easy, doesn’t it? Did you ever do it?
-

Of course not. On the other hand, nobody pays me millions of dollars a year to that job, or even jobs that I'm really good at.
To top the afternoon off, I just had one of the most bizarre conversations I've ever had. I dropped my car off earlier today to repair a slow leak in one of the tires. As usual, I forgot to give them the key for the lug nuts, so they called to ask where that was. I told them where it is in the trunk, and they went off to look for it. A few minutes later they called back to tell me that they couldn't find the key, and, by the way, the lug wrench and the jack aren't there either. They're right: those things are not there. WTF? I have absolutely no idea when those could have gone missing, or how. Fortunately, I have a backup key for the lug nuts.
-

I lost the lug key once. It was not fun getting the keyed lug off.

Every time the tire guy hands the lug key beck to me I wonder why I ever got that 'feature'.

Good to know getting paid makes failure inexcusable.
-

Read on At Bat they threw 6 changeups out of 7 pitches to Ruiz. Chirinos took the blame for that. Osuna blamed himself for location.
-
This is filed under “shit happens”.
-

Changeup is a great pitch, but it has to be a change from something else. If that's all the hitter sees from you, it's just a shitty fastball. I don't know how many times Ruiz has faced Osuna, but he wasn't fooled. And the location...well, it was just bad. All in all a bad at bat for Osuna. Shame it came when it did.
-
I'm reminded of Doug Jones and his super slow change up that he would counter with a mid-80s fast ball.
-

Chirinos said much the same.
