This lucky Florida inhabitant is at his second home game of the year. Go Astros!!
-
On Greinke Night!
Hope there is sufficient data to withstand criticism.
-
Greinke with a quick 1st...
-
Eschenfelder is as bad as Kalas at pronouncing Spanish names.
-
Eschenfelder is as bad as Kalas at pronouncing Spanish names.
Eschenfelder, Berkman, and Michelle Whoever.
The JV squad or worse
-
Why the fuck are these slapdicks calling the game? The figured Kalas and Blum needed another vacation?
-
you’d think with a name like Eschenfelder you’d want to get pronunciations close to correct.
-

Yeah, all the stress of being paid to watch and comment on baseball games just builds up over time.
-
Bregman leads off the 2nd with a double. Thought about a triple...
-
Alvarez!
Holy shit that ball was mashed
-
RF just stood there....
-
Shut up, Berkman.
-
Shut up, Berkman.
That's a futile effort, Jim.
It's like trying to screw a bottle cap on Old Faithful.
-
Shut up, Berkman.
No joke.
-
Bregman leads off the 2nd with a double. Thought about a triple...
I think he could’ve made it but probably better he didn’t try.
-
I think it's time to rechristen it the Berkman Button.
-
That's a futile effort, Jim.
It's like trying to screw a bottle cap on Old Faithful.
Fixing to Worrell button this home crew.
-
That's a futile effort, Jim.
It's like trying to screw a bottle cap on Old Faithful.
Maybe a bad comparison. Old Faithful only spews every once in a while.
-
That was not subtle from Alvarez.
-
I think he could’ve made it but probably better he didn’t try.
Conserved his energy.
-
I wonder if Berkman had an opportunity to interview Hinch if he would ever shut up and listen to the answer?
I heard Hinch in an interview say that both Maldonaldo and Chirinos would catch Greinke.
-
I think it's time to rechristen it the Berkman Button.
Good suggestion
-
Maybe keep "Worrell Button" but add "Lance" as a verb.
Ex: "Goddamn it. TK, Blummer and Julia are on vacation again. I think I'm going to Lance the Worrell Button."
-

Hell no. He is just talking.

FYI: More Apollo 11 hats available in the team store.

Red Dawg with a leadoff triple
-
Red Dawg with a leadoff triple
Good to see him drive one like that.
He had a rough July.
-
Springer Ks and Altuve impatiently falls behind and squibs one, Josh caught in a rundown gets tagged, Altuve to 2nd.
Not good from George/Jose.
-
uncle mike!!
-
Nice job of Brantley bailing out Springer and Altuve.
-
Brantley with a 2-out RBI knock. 3-0 Astros
-
Thank goodness for Brantley.
-
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Miiiiike!
-
Marquez has really good stuff, but he just seems to lose focus sometimes.
-
With Brantley's single, the Astros have hit the cycle.
-
Nice play by Correa, but he's safe.
-
Greinke in a little trouble
Infield single, walk, wild pitch, now a sac fly. Still runner at 3B, one out...
-
Crappy passed ball by Chirinos leads to a Rockies run.
-
Damn cue ball double

Crappy passed ball by Chirinos leads to a Rockies run.
Wild pitch, though Chirinos certainly didn’t help him out.
-
Wild pitch, though Chirinos certainly didn’t help him out.
They'll call it a wild pitch because it hit dirt, but Chirinos's job back there is to stop that pitch.
I'm sure glad I started Lester for my OWA fantasy team tonight. Another stellar effort.
-
Piña power!
-
Piña power!
Quality targeting there: snuck it right into the front corner of the Crawford Boxes.
-
Wow. That was clusterfuck.
-
Well that sucked ass
-
Good grief.
-
That was ugly. What was Correa thinking? Altuve barely had to move for that ball, there was no reason for Correa to head over there.
-
There, that's more like it.
-
Springer and Altuve with singles puts em on the corners, one out
Brantley with an RBI FC groundout.
-
Yordan *just* missed that one. Just a fraction high on the bat.
-
Damn, Alvarez just got under that ball or it’s another 3 runs.
-
Holy cow that was close.
-
Guys, we're trying to make Grienke enjoy pitching here.
-
how bad is Greinke missing? hard to tell from my high-home position.
-
Lance achieving a high volubility quotient tonight.
-
And we’re tied
Fuck
-
jeez...
-
i blame AB
-
how bad is Greinke missing? hard to tell from my high-home position.
He's had a couple of 4-pitch walks where he really wasn't close.
I wish he hadn't been close on that last pitch.
-
Greinke leaves room for improvement in his next start.
-

Not badly until that blast.

Must be up and down then. From up here they look like strikes.

Greinke not sharp
Infield errors
Ugh
-
Good spot for a bunt
-
Yes Josh, that was a strike.
-
Good spot for a bunt
Yeah, not sure why that wasn’t tried.
-
Attaboy, George.
-
Come on, pen
-
Damn gidp.
-
Josh looked like he was waving the fans off there.
-
Quite a battle.
That pitch was inside, then it was in the upper deck.
7-6.
-
Bregman’s E started it off
Changed to a hit.
-
Man, one of those nights.
-
Changed to a hit.
I beg to differ.
-
Devo made some tough 3-2 pitches before the moon shot.
I'd be in favor of more runs for the home team.
-
Wow, talk about no respect for an arm!
-
1st/3rd, 1 out for Correa.
-
I beg to differ.
Argue with the score keeper.
-
Argue with the score keeper.
That's who I'm differing with.

Correa double plates 2.
-
Yuli x 2!!

"Another dejected Rockie reliever heads to the bench."

this has been fun!

11-5.
Rockies changing pitchers.

Well done by Rondón.

Are the regular cameramen off tonight too? What the fuck is going on. Amateur hour all around with this broadcast.

No kidding.
Maybe Blummer is working the camera.
-
McHugh in for the 9th.
Walks the leadoff hitter.
Behind 3-1 on the 2nd. They're talking about it.

He looks terrible.

Walk.
Osuna getting up in the pen.
-
Collin gets an F7 and a swinging K.
Trevor story up with 2 down.
-
5-3 full count grounder ends it.
-
Argue with the score keeper.
Kissing Bregman’s ass and hurting the pitcher.
-
I just saw the video of Alvarez's home run. Holy shit! It was a line drive way back into the upper deck. A LINE DRIVE with a 25 deg. launch angle ended up in the upper tank. 112.5 mph exit velocity. Wow!
-
Yeah, all the stress of being paid to watch and comment on baseball games just builds up over time.
These schedules are in place well ahead of time, and they are about to leave on a long road trip. What they do may not seem tough, but it is tiring.

Missing fairly badly on his arm side. Lance will tell you why.

You know, for a guy who’s otherwise a bonehead, he does know some things about baseball and does have some interesting and thoughtful insights. He’d be fine if he cut down on his chatter by about two thirds.

Yep. I feel about him like I do about Keith Moreland. “You know the game and have good insights; now shut the fuck up.”

One of my favorite things about Jim Deshaies was when he would explain pitch selection, count, location, etc. He's say things like "two sliders down and away, so he's got him set up to come hard in..." Berkman has the same insights. If only everything didn't lead to "when I was playing..."
-

It doesn't sound like he's had any significant schooling on being a broadcaster. The network needed someone for a few days here-n-there to fill in since they dole out in-season vacations and they start a list of most well-known ex-Astros. I wonder why they don't or can't get Bagwell to come in for these games. He has some modicum of broadcasting experience. Or maybe dust Dierker off?
-
No doubt Berkman has verbal diarrhea, but Eschenfelder is part of the problem. A play by play guy has to control the booth and respond to the tempo of the game. But Eschenfelder is a studio host by trade, and a studio host is trained to just tee up the commentators around him. So he’s teeing up a guy who just won’t quit talking instead of controlling the booth.

He certainly was all over their alignment and pitch selection/location and runner being held on first with Altuve up.
-
Eschenfelder is absolutely a huge part of the problem. But Lance wasn't that much better with Kalas. In fact, Kalas seemed to sort of egg him on.
All of this goes to show that broadcasting baseball is not all that easy a thing to do well. JD and BB were GOAT I think, but Kalas and Blum are far, far better than most. Lots of other teams have the equivalent of Eschenfelder and Lance every game. Or worse.

Totally true. Eschenfelder cannot control him.

Fwiw, Dierker seemed to enjoy being in the booth this weekend. (For Astros HoF weekend).

Schooling? Are you kidding? He’s Lance Berkman. No one can tell him how to talk on an Astros broadcast.
My guess is Bagwell does not want to commit that much time. No Dierker ever, please. His arrogance knows no bounds.

Speaking of JD and Blummer...just an observation: I think JD was better at strategy...alignments, matchups, pitch selection, etc...why they did what they did. Blum is better at the technical things, swing mechanics, positioning of fielders, how a guy had his feet wrong and that's why the ball ate him up, or arm got under a ball and it sailed.... Both are strengths.

Changed to a hit.
Changed back to an error.

There has been an official scoring change in the #Astros game on Aug. 6 vs. COL. Daniel Murphy reached to lead off the Rockies 6th, which has been changed to an error.
Greinke's updated pitching line that night: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER.

Error is what it was originally scored, and it should have been error all along. His helping Bregman hurt Greinke’s ERA. Scorers often do not think when the play is close. Someone (Hinch or Luhnow’?) has been talking to him.
I did not know they had this much time to change a decision. Changes happened in RR my first year when I was on the payroll and knew things, but I did not think they had this much time.

Greinke's ERA went from 3.08 to 2.91 just by that change alone

The official scorer has 24 hours after the game to submit his scoring report, so he/she can change the call within that 24 hour period. After that, a player or club can petition the Commissioner's office for a scoring review within 72 hours following submittal of the official scorer's report. The Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations can change the scoring within that time period if he determines the official scorer's call was "clearly erroneous". So either Greinke or the club petitioned to have it reviewed and changed, and the EVP agreed it was a bad decision.

Likely the club, imo. That time frame is what I recall from my RR experience.
