George did what George does. Astros 1-0 after one batter.
-
He turned on that with a vengeance.
-
SPLAT!
-
Correa is pretty good at baseball.
-
Greg Gibson is having a rough afternoon behind the plate so far. His strike zone is all kinds of fucked up.
-
Gameday says the HPU's ball-strike calls are just random utterances.

That is accurate.
And George checked his swing on strike 2.

Eh, that was 50/50. He was right on the line.
However, it was pretty rough after "strike 1" was called on 3 inches inside.

Did he seem to cut down his swing a bit w/ 2 strikes this time?
-
Tough slider got him.
-
Springer got fucked with an elephant dick

Gameday also says there's no correlation between an Astro swinging the bat and the pitch's actual proximity to the strike zone.
-

No. He was fooled on the pitch.
-
Yordan!!
-
Yard-gone!
-
Oh, Yordan! That kid is so strong

Number 12 for Yordan.
-
Man, when he connects...that was a line drive from below the strike zone.
-
Haha! Tried the down and in slider again. He was waiting.
-
Could use a double play here.
-
Could use a double play here.
K and a 6-3 works.

Huge inning for Miley! Bullpen be ready.
-
Jala-pina! I like it!
-
Miley is a cool customer.
-
Batting Averages as of 5th inning in St. Louis
Springer: .292
Altuve: .286 * (just started hitting now)
Brantley: .322
Alvarez: .333
Correa: .290
Gurriel: .301
Reddick: .280 *** (been above 300 for most of the season)
Bregman: .259
Chirinos: .232
Batting average may be going the way of the dinosaur if you believe Bregs, but damn 7/9 of our hitters have a chance to hit above .300 this year. Has this ever happened?
-
Both of these pitchers are throwing a *lot* of pitches today.
-
Miley escapes trouble again. Nice job, but I've got to think that 5 innings is the best we can hope for today.
-
Wade sure is playing around with fire at a gas station today

Great out by Miley as Martinez is a pretty tough hitter to get pitches by. At least appears that from what I’ve seen this series.
-
Miley needs a courtesy runner.

Loved him hitching up his pants as he pulled into 3rd.
-
I really like Miley.
-
Jose!
-
Altuve!!!
1500!!
-
That little guy is good.
-
What was the HP ump jawing at Altuve about when he crossed home plate. Ump seemed pissed.
-
Hudson was not going to give Yordan anything to hit that at bat.

Can you blame him? He launched a slider at his shins last time over the fence

I noticed that but Jose ignored it, so I did also.
-
I like that Alvarez got the green light on that 3-0 pitch. That's going to make other pitchers think twice about get-me-over pitches on future 3-0 counts.

TK said good-natured exchange about a call.
-
I don't want to seem greedy, but I really thought we were going to get more runs that inning.
Altuve can be incredibly maddening at times, but 1500 hits in 1194 games is amazing. 1.25+ hits per game.
-
Did AJ see Alvarez catch that ball?
autocorrect has taken over.
-
Did AJ see Alvarez cast how that ball?
My decoder ring is failing me on this one. "Chase down", maybe?
-
Four innings for the pen. Gulp.

Thanks, missed that.

Look at the revision. Autocorrect took over.

"Hall of Fame jacket statue" seems like one of the lamest giveaways in quite a while. I"d rather have a bobblehead of the infamous three-man infield tumble.
-
What a turd Bauer is.

.....or a happy accident and new OWA slang. Ex.: Judge thought he had a homer but Marisnick cast howed his ass at the wall.

I like that the catcher had to ask the umpire for another ball so that he could give it to Tito to give to the new pitcher.

I’m laughing at the second baseman’s reaction, he thought Bauer was gonna drill him.

This.

Once again, Altuve lives at the extremes of the exit velo spectrum.

After the game I hope his teammates mock him til he cries. What a dipshit.
-
Francona came out and asked a very trenchant question, then chased him up the tunnel.

Bauer's behavior is that of a petulant child's.
-
Interesting route by Springer to a good catch.
-
Oof, Alvarez misplayed the heck out of that double allowing the runner to score.
-

No, no, no. That runner was going to score. Two outs, he was running on contact, the misplay did not cause the run. He would have scored if Reddick was out there.

Serpentine!

Yep, wasn't "expertly" played off the wall, but that run scores regardless.

Good point.
-
Stassi is as automatic an out as it gets.

We really needed more than that after that error. Need to make that cost them.
-
They gave us a couple extra outs and we got nothing.
-
Crap. Stassi’s AB.
-
Come on Hector.
-
My second son is named Max, and Stassi is his favorite player. He asked for the number 12 on his little league team. Fear this is going to end in heartbreak soon.
-
Crap. Stassi’s AB.
Someone tweeted that w Contreras back, Cubs may turn around a re-deal Maldonado. Maybe Luhnow will bite.
-
Diaz, that is not what we needed.
-
Good grief, Diaz. Let's not let these guys back into it.

Show him videos of Scherzer. Or start calling him Alex

This. Not Stassi.
-
Good job by Hector. Especially working around the error.
-
Well done, Hector.
-
Glad Rondon was able to work around Diaz’s error. Now let’s get more runs!
-
Good job by Rondon. He is an enigma. He throws 97-99 and has a good slider. He has been a solid closer for the Cubs and for us. I think perhaps our view of him is skewed by an occasional spectacular failure and by his disastrous stint as an opener. He can be important down the stretch.
-

Yeah, getting a scoreless while facing the heart of the order was big. Wonder who throws the eighth? Devo, Smith?
-
Looked like it took Altuve a little while to get serious about getting it going between 1st and 2nd, and it cost him in the end.
-
Wow. Hard to believe Altuve did not score.
-
Well, that OF play and relay by the Cards was pretty much perfect.
-

Yep. He was out by a lot.
-
AJ needs to ask Altuve the same question Tito asked Tyler.
-
Important update:
AJ Reed is pitching against the Twins

I’m with ya, I couldn’t believe he was out by so much, Cards absolutely played that perfectly.
-
Everyone thinks this team needs bullpen help that's not currently on the roster.
That may be true, but guys like Rondon and Collin need to step up. Hopefully today is something Hector builds on.

Well, they have been having bullpen trouble.

This is so true.
Devo also.

Nice tag! He must has seen Altuve tap the plate after he ducks the tag.
-
That split screen of Straw and Devo was great!
