Top 1:
Springer walks, Altuve singles, and then Bregman, Brantley, and Alvarez strand them.
Bottom 1:
Rondon does Rondon things, giving up 5 runs without an out on an assortment of doubles, bleeders, and walks.
Spare yourself the time, folks. Get some sleep.

Rondon decided to function as both the opener and the closer tonight.

Can’t forget the bases loaded HBP.

Seeing eyes hits more than hard hit, but the runs count.
Early bedtime tonight.

Jake dives an misses, resulting in a triple. 6-0 and AJ finally goes out to tell Rondon thanks for his help.

Yes.
Yes it was.

I’m old enough to remember when he was closing effectively for us.

Yuli doesn't swing the bat so much as sling the bat.

Remember when we had like 7 quality starters and 2 of those guys had to go to the bullpen? That was nice

Bad to worse in a week. Did not know that this level of shitshow was possible.
Note to self - take a break tonight, do not get sucked into pageantry of shit

These kinds of comments are what are fucking jokes.

Agreed. Rondon has been mostly good this year and is being asked to do something he's never done.

Never give up, never give in.
Absolutely it can. Will it? We'll see. Who could have predicted Yordan or Yuli going on a tear?

Yes, it can but.....

One good starter can go a long way towards fixing it. Peacock coming back at some point would get you back to 5 solid starters

True, I’m just pissy because he’s given up runs in 3 of his last 4 outings, against division rivals.

For sure. Very frustrating to basically give up 1½ games worth of runs in the 1st inning

I think every spot in the rotation has had a first inning implosion (or 2) this season.
So frustrating.

We need five players in my estimation to make another run (2 of which we own contracts of):
Correa Healthy
Diaz Healthy
RP: Shutdown bullpen arm - 7th/8th/9th (combo with Pressly/Osuna)
SP: Top Starter (Thor, Sherzer, Grienke, or Bauer) - no Madbum
SP: Inning Eater (DBacks, Royals, White Sox, Reds, Mets, Giants) -
Need to sort this out soon. Not a great deal of trading partners for the Stros at the moment
-
Btw,
18 LOBsters in 4 innings of work. Only Astros without one - Yuli Gurriel.
This is insane.

Not so much. With JV, Cole and the guy you get from number 4, you'll have 3 guys who will eat quite a bit of really good innings. With Miley and Peacock giving you 6 innings most nights.

That's reasonable.
Just don't want to fuck around with McHugh/Peacock with their injuries, inconsistencies at times --- we do not have a huge window to win this thing (maybe 1-3 to years --- even with all of the talent we have in the organization). Would like to see balls to the wall, going for it (finding that 4 starter combo really won the series for us with Peacock/Morton/McCullers.
Just don't feel like we have anywhere near that kind of depth at this point. So I'll hold onto my skepticism, but still want two SP's
-
The biggest problem with the deadline is that with almost all of the pitching in the upper levels of the farm system being wiped out by injuries and/or regression, a lot of their potential trade stockpile has lost value. That makes it hard when they need two starters, two bullpen arms and maybe a bat (depending on how confident they are about people staying healthy going forward).

24 Lobsters in 5 innings - anyone know the modern day record for most LOB's in a 9 inning game?
Sum gigantic bull patties here.

Smith is a bullpen addition that didn't require a trade (this year), and McHugh has looked good since returning.

McHugh
Rondon

If we're talking regular season, which is all we should talk because nothing has been won yet, then the pen to me looks like much, much less of an issue than that elusive starter.
And I only say starter in the singular because we haven't been told what Peacock's situation is.
-
If Luhnow/Hinch doesn't keep Sneed in the roster going forward while they need pitchers, they've lost their minds.
-
Did I miss something obvious as far as HBPs? Why did he get drilled?

Good stuff Big D.
Just not sure how Smith will come back, Peacock's shoulder as you mention, and McHugh's velocity. In a series with the Yanks, Twins, Red Sox or Rays, there are only a few on this list that really engender confidence (at least for me).

*** Greedy of me, but would kind of like this sorted before the trade deadline, with White, Stassi something we could improve upon as well.

So the Angels are basically chuck regarding Keuchel on the whole topic. Got it.
-
Felt bad for Jake there.
He took his medicine like a pro. Pujols on the other hand needs to ditch his rabbit ears and drop the tough guy act.
-
For those who missed it, Jake was nailed by a 90 mph pitch that hit him on the M on his nameplate.
He promptly ran to first without looking over to the Angels.
-

It's your dad that can't get over it, dickhead. And won't stop talking about it at every opportunity.

Can't someone adjust the field mic so that we don't hear that loudmouthed idiot who's yelling after every pitch?

Everyone knew it was coming. Jake said "you made your point, now let's move on and play ball". Let's hope everyone else takes notice and that's the end of it.

Everyone knew it was coming but the Angels were too chickenshit to risk their starter doing it.

The only issue I have with Ramirez was the location- control your shit- and the ridiculous lying he did after the game.
There are ways to say it wasn't on purpose while still owning it.
But I agree: it's done, that should be it.

Ramirez can't admit to doing it intentionally. Everyone knew what was up. Jake said so after the game, as did Hinch. Hinch mentioned the location thing as well, but other than that, it's boys being boys.

The correct response is "it just got away from me."
No admission, everyone move along.
Ultimately it's a quibble on my part. I don't think Ramirez should be suspended but he probably will be.
"I was just trying to sneak a fastball by him,” said Ramirez. “I threw two sliders away. I think the scouting report on me is I might sneak a fastball in there after a couple offspeed pitches. I tried to sneak one by him in, and it just got away from me.
“They’re a good team so I wasn’t trying to give them any sort of chance. They get a baserunner on, they’re a pretty good team. They get a rally going pretty good. That’s the last thing I was trying to do.”

throwing a "message" pitch that close to the head is chickenshit. If I had been Hinch I would have retaliated but to the rib area. Then he could have said "that's how it's done" while writing the check out.

Maybe he can just write the check to Correa's masseuse to visit Ramirez.

I’m not saying I disagree with you. It was a chicken shit way of trying to even the score. I’m just saying I don’t think he’ll get suspended. Hopefully he does, but I doubt it.

DId not see that coming.

On a semi-related note, I wish MLB would institute an automatic suspension for bullpen personnel running in for these fracases (fracasi? fracaseses? ).
It's an enormous waste of everyone's time, and they constitute a potentially dangerous second wave in the case of an actual brawl.
-

I agree. While it would be unreasonable to suspend them all, there should be some consequences much like the NHL rule for first man off the bench.

I am sure the team is mad at Jake, but....
Not much upside in being in a fight, especially for a professional athlete, out of the pen or otherwise.
They would be wise to be careful to avoid a career-ending injury.
Not many options are available if you can't pitch out of the bullpen.
(PS: Wonder if some of the guys are excited about running from the pen.
