Altuve in the leadoff spot...
-
Juiced!
-
Astros load the bases with nobody out in the 1st...
-
2 mound visits before an out is recorded
-
Alvarez is a beast.
-
That was a grownup AB from Alvarez.
And he tattooed that ball.
-
Alvarez with an RBI single...bases still loaded...
-
La Piña!
-
Yuli drives in a run...2-0...bases still juiced, still no outs...
-
Red Dawg with a sac fly...3-0
-
30 pitches per out is less then optimal.
-
My fault.
-
T1:
Altuve singles to LF
Bregman...3-0...3-1...walks, Altuve to 2B
Brantley...3-0...walks, Altuve to 3B, Bregman to 2B

Reddick flies out F8, Brantley tags and scores on the sac fly
Chirinos grounds into 6-4-3 double play
Astros hit the pay station thrice...lead 3-0
-
My fault.
Yep...way to kill that rally.
-
Rangers with three straight singles...3-1, Rangers on the corners, one out...
-
3 straight hard hit balls against JV.
Someone diagnose it and fix it.
-
Perfect game ended on the first pitch in the ninth in Baltimore. Against the shift single.
-
B1:
Choo...0-2...flies out F8
Calhoun singles to RF
Andrus singles to LF, Calhoun to 2B
Mazara singles to RF, Calhoun scores, Andrus to 3B
Gallo...0-2...strikes out swinging
Mazara steals 2B
Odor grounds to SS, Straw on the 1B side of the bag in the shift dives and stops it, Andrus scores, Mazara tries his luck and is caught in a rundown...he's out 6-2-5.
But the Rangers close the gap...3-2
-
Well, there weren't any home runs, at least.
-
Perfect game ended on the first pitch in the ninth in Baltimore. Against the shift single.
Wow. Baltimore almost threw a perfecto?
/kidding/
-
Straw's speed at SS saved a run and preserved the lead there.
-
Straw's speed at SS saved a run and preserved the lead there.
Good call. For some reason, I forgot that was Straw out there.
-
Nice play for sure.
Enjoyed Altuve pointing for the appeal to 1st on that check setting.
-
Astros on the corners, one out...
-
Contrast the Straw play with the one Odor couldn't make.
-
Coming into the game, Alvarez has a .480/.519/.920 slash with RISP (25 AB). And he's 1-1 today.
-
Bregman with a sac fly...
To you kids at home...bad play by Calhoun to throw that ball home. He had no shot at Straw and it allowed Altuve to move to 2B...scoring position with two out.
-
As soon as the LFer stutter stepped Straw was safe.
-
To your point, HH.
-
QED...throwing home just cost the Rangers a run.
-
T2:
Marisnick strikes out swinging
Straw...full count...walks
Altuve...3-0...3-1 on the corner...3-2...singles up the middle...Straw, who was running on the pitch, moves to 3B
Bregman flies out to shallow LF, Straw tags and scores on another sac fly...Altuve to 2B as the throw comes home
Brantley singles to RF, Altuve scores
Alvarez flies out F8
5-2 Astros
-
Mrs. Hawk went to HEB. I hope she's getting more beer, we could be here all fucking night.

Do you ever hope she isn't getting more beer?
-
Do you ever hope she isn't getting more beer?
Good point. Just a routine trip, I suppose.
-
B2:
Cabrera walks
Guzman...full count...strikes out swinging
Federowicz...0-2...strikes out looking
Choo...0-2...strikes out swinging
5-2 Astros
-
JV snapped off a few nice breaking balls in that frame.
-
T3:
Gurriel singles to LCF
Reddick flies out F7
Chirinos strikes out swinging
Marisnick flies out F9 at the wall with Choo spinning in circles
5-2 still
-
2 hours in and we're not out of the third.
-
B3:
Calhoun pops out F2 behind the plate
Andrus...full up...pops out F4 as Altuve makes a basket catch over his shoulder
Mazara...0-2...strikes out swinging
5-2
-
Suck it, Odor
-
2 on 2 out for Alvarez
-
Jurado... um.. you're a pitcher. so pitch.
-
Bases drunk for Yuli...
-
T4:
Straw lines out to LF on a shoestring catch by Calhoun...ball hit the fingers of the glove which was on the ground
Altuve lines one up the middle that almost takes Jurado's head off and off of Odor's glove as he leaps for it...ruled an E4, but damn that was a tough one
Bregman strikes out looking, turns around and bitches about it, even though it was a full ball inside the zone
Brantley doubles to RF, Altuve to 3B
Alvarez...3-2...walks to load the bases
Gurriel grounds into FC on the first pitch, Alvarez out 6-4 at 2B
Astros leave the bases loaded...but lead 5-2
-
Alvarez with an RBI single...bases still loaded...
Rangers announcers marveled at Alvarez's 2019 RBI total - including RR - equals 100, so far.
RR - 71; Astros - 29.
-
B4:
Gallo flies out F9
Odor flies out F8

Bases juiced for Altuve as Rangers go to the pen.
Hope no one has anywhere to be tonight.
Or tomorrow morning.

I got a chicken sitting on the grill with a can of Shiner up his butt. I think there are potatoes in the oven. I'm on my sixth beer this game.
-
Altuve!!!!
-
That'll do, Jose.
-
Bird: "Dear God, holy fucking shit, help me the hell out of this mess. Amen."
God: "Done."

I'm working from memory but unless I'm mistaken that was his first slam.

I'm working from memory but unless I'm mistaken that was his first slam.
He hit one earlier this year, didn't he?
-
The team has hit a shitload of them this year but I remember seeing a stat some time in the last two weeks or so where a player, and I think it was Altuve, who hits lots of home runs and who's been around for a while surprisingly has no career slams.
-
Altuve was behind 0-2. Ball one nearly untied his shoes, ball 2 was 3 feet above the zone and outside.
Chase pitches need to be in the same zip code.
-
Another Pina colada.

OK, he hit one in 2017 and you're right, another this year.
I wonder who the player is I'm thinking of.

That was his third. He one in 2014 off of Joe Kelley in Boston, and one earlier this year off of Shawn Armstrong in Seattle.
-
2014 rather than 2017.

No sure, but since we're gonna be here a while, I'll do a little research.

Carlos Correa has never hit a grand slam. Neither has Jake Marisnick
-
I'm stuck with the Arlington broadcast so Worrell button has been engaged from the outset.
Turned it up after the slam, heard a few seconds of Raymond pining about how it was barely a homer, then re-Worrelled it before my ears started to bleed.
-
I never hit a grand slam in all my years. Never hit more than one HR in a game either.
-
Carlos Correa has never hit a grand slam. Neither has Jake Marisnick
It has to be Correa because it was someone that has hit enough that it was truly surprising. So what I'm misremembering is when I saw that statistic. I thought it was pretty recently but obviously not.

Yeah, those runs just barely scored. Don't know about you folks but I'm penciling them in...
-
Strikes, Devo.
Throw strikes.
-
Via Berman: Yuli Gurriel of the @astros has 60 total bases in his last 15 games, the most by a Cuban-born player in a 15-game span all-time. The previous high was 59 by Hall of Famer Tony Perez in April 1970.
-
Devo a mess. Walks the bases loaded...with a 10-run lead

Walks the 8th and 9th place hitter no less. After walking Gallo 30 minutes ago.

Damn it. He’s lost out there.

Not even close. Devo walks his fourth to force a run in.
And he's out. Smith in
-
Damn it. He’s lost out there.
He's not been the Devo of old for a while.

He's not been the Devo of old for a while.
I thought he’s been decent to good lately. This type of outing is surprising.

Mrs. Hawk went to HEB. I hope she's getting more beer, we could be here all fucking night.
when I was a kid, growing up in Corpus Christi, HEB did not (1) open on Sunday (2) sell beer or wine any day of the week. They dominated the Corpus grocery business with 80% market-share or so before taking on an expansion into other South Texas markets.

Buying beer on Sundays is a relatively new thing, isn't it? I remember when Randall's ruled Houston, and they did not sell beer or wine either until they were bought out by Safeway and went right down the johnnyflusher.
Growing up in Florida, Publix was king of the supermarkets. They were closed on Sundays too. You basically couldn't buy anything on Sundays except gas and medicine.
-
When you've got to go clear to Alabama to buy your Sunday beer, you know you're living in a fucked up state.
In Necktown in the same era the blue laws apparently were such that an establishment had to be closed one day a week, but that day was not specified. That's my surmise, anyway, because there was a store called Sage that managed to stay fully open on Sundays by closing or at least roping off most of their departments on Saturday. I guess that ploy worked well enough for them because they managed to stay in business until the repeal of the blue laws, whenever that was.
The Sage nearest my childhood home was on the southeast corner of 610 and Beechnut. There's a Lowe's in that spot now. The main thing I remember about Sage was the nearly overpowering aroma of popcorn.
