Verlander walked Trout but that was it for the Angels in the 1st.
Berkman is the color analyst. To the chagrin of some around here no doubt.
-
Astros down in order (2 groundouts and a flyball to left).
-
Pujols leadoff single, K, then an inning ending double play.
Verlander moving up the career strikeout list.
-
Uncle Mike solo shot to right.
Astros 1-0.
-
Forgive me for not keeping up but who is doing color with TK tonight?

Motor Mouth Berkman
You ain't kidding. Take a breath, buddy.
-
Alvarez and Yuli K, Josh flies out to right.
1-0 Astros.
-
Good God, the inanity...
-
There's tonight's home run.
-
Single and a blast over the pen in right center (Calhoun).
2-1 Angels.
-
There's tonight's home run.

There's tonight's home run.
Ahem.
-
HR #2 was a blast off the batter's eye.
3-1.
-
That Japanese kid has some skills.
-
Straw walks/steals 2nd.
Springer grounds 5-3, Straw stays put.
-
Why the hell is Straw still on second? He could have jogged to third on George's GO.
-
Altuve drops a bunt foul then flies out to left.
End 3, Angels up 3-1.
-
Pena appears to be attempting to bring Mr. T’s necklace look back into style.

Not worth the risk of attempting to advance to 3rd with 2 outs.

The ball was a slow roller down the line. The third baseman had to charge it. Nobody was covering third. Baserunning 101: take the base when it is given.
-
Lucroy hit a 2 out double but no damage in the 4th.
-

I remember when they used to make pitchers remove (or at least hide) necklaces because they distracted the batter. I guess those days are past.

Third baseman fielded it about three feet right beside the bag, and the SS was covering as well. Had Straw been running, he’d have run right into a tag.
-
How does Brantley not score from 2B on a double off the top of the LCF wall?

Ok, Rickey.

Uncle Mike stretches a leadoff hitter into a double, Alvarez doubles off the wall in left. Brantley holds at 3rd (difficult to read I'd it would be caught).
-
Yuli drives Brantley in with a grounder to short.
Alvarez stays put.
3-2.

I thought he was suggesting that straw run after the 3B made the throw to first because, as you point out, it was clear Straw would have run into the tag if he was running right after contact.

That would have been just as dumb. I read it as suggesting he had 3B on the ground ball. He would ave been dead meat either way.
-
Reddick goes down swinging.
End 4.
Angels 3-2.
-
How does Brantley not score from 2B on a double off the top of the LCF wall?
I think he was holding up because it was unclear if Trout was going to have a play on the ball. And then it bounced immediately to him off the wall.

No, not that it matters since Altuve ended the inning immediately thereafter, Straw had a normal second base lead and could easily have made it to third on the roller down the line. The third baseman made the play and the throw on the run about 15 or 20 feet up the line barely getting Springer at first. He could not have stopped, pivoted and thrown to a shortstop who could not have beaten Straw to third. The way I saw it, it wouldn't have been close.
Who the fuck is Rickey?
-
Calhoun drives a 2-2 cement mixer to the RF corner.
1 out now for Trout.
-
Trout pops out to Brantley.
Ohtani falls behind 0-2, grounds out 3-1 tio ends the inning.

He was literally standing next to 3B when he fielded the ball. He could have reached over and touched the bag. Straw would have had to run right into him to reach 3B. But you’re right, it would not hav been close.

Trout had no shot at it. It hit the top of the wall. Terrible read I thought.

You and I remember very different plays. If he, as you said, fielded it on the base then obviously Straw doesn't try to advance. I remember the ball being charged by the third baseman, fielded at least 15 feet down the line and thrown on the run and shortstop being nowhere near third base. Which is why I made my original comment.
The video will not be on any highlight reel since the play was not consequential.
-
Bottom 5
Chirinos flies out to center
Straw grounds out 6-3 (nice play)
Springer walks
Altuve 5-4 FC
End 5
Angels 3
Astros 2
-

Agreed. That ball was either gone or hitting the wall. Nobody was catching it.

I’ve rewatched it 5 times. He charged it because he was deep, but Fletcher was three feet from 3B when he fielded the ball. Straw was 80.

Fuck. HR number three...
-
How does Brantley not score from 2B on a double off the top of the LCF wall?
The ball landed on the visitors bullpen fence. OFers had a bead on it, didn't give up on it until late. Ball was in hand quickly.
-
There's tonight's home run.
-
Simmons to left.
Slider didn't slide.

Trout didn’t have a bead on it, he had no chance whatsoever to catch it. But it bounced off the wall right to him. Still thought it was a bad read by Brantley.
-
Nothing after the homer.
4-2 Angels.

Fair enough, I don't have a replay available.
-
Brantley doubles again.
Bounces into the stands, keeping Bregman at 3rd.
2 on for Alvarez.
-
So what's that ground rule? Did it leave the field?
-

It bounced over the yellow line. Unless my eyes deceive me again.
-
Alvarez Ks on ball 4 after battling from 0-2.
Yuli pops out.
Opportunity in danger . . .
-
Bases juiced for Chirinos...
-
Definitely pitched around Josh.
-
Thud
-
Fuck, that's frustrating.
-
Justin Anderson pitching.
Bregman battles, walks
Brantley doubles into the stands in right, Bregman to 3rd
Alvarez goes 0-2, then 3-2, Ks on a FB high/outside
Gurriel pops out to 2nd
Buttrey (RHP) faces Reddick
Reddick goes 3-0, 3-1, walks to load them
Chirinos first ball 5-4 FC.
End 6
Angels 4
Astros 2

Squandered

Needed a fly ball or a ground ball from your 5 or 6 hitters. Nope.
-
2nd/3rd with no outs.
4 batters. 2 balls put in play. Neither left the infield.
-
Squandered
Some seriously crappy at bats
-
Some seriously crappy at bats
Alvarez battled. Hit some balls hard foul, laid off some pitches. Just got a little anxious trying to drive in a run. Bad result, but not a bad at bat.
-
On another note, starting pitcher Paredes for CC Hooks has 12 SO and no hits through 6 innings.
-
Angels down in order in the 7th.
HRs remain Verlander's Achilles heel this season.
-
How about a crooked number for the good guys!!!!

Well that was anemic.

Buttrey painting the corners at 100 mph. Ouch.

HR number four...

Fuck this game!

I suppose Rondon looks so good its not Buttrey (Lobster Butt)

Another Bregman pop up. Sigh.

Brantley is 4 for 4. The rest of the team is 1 for 23.

Some hitting instructor needs to keep that video for an example of how to stay back and hit the breaking ball.

Needless to say...gotta keep this a 1-run game
-
Bottom 8th
Cam Bedrosian pitching
Bregman pops out in foul territory behind 1B
Brantley singles sharply to right
Alvarez in the hole 0-2, Ks swinging
Gurriel likewise goes 0-2, but homers to right scoring Brantley
Reddick F9
End 8
Angels 5
Astros 4
-
Needless to say...gotta keep this a 1-run game
Trout is the best player in the game. But I'm still irritated at Rondon.
-
The most disappointing thing tonight was Berkman asking if the “Cole Train” bobble head was a reference to The Dukes of Hazzard.
-
Straw didn’t get much of jump on that ball right at him.
-
Great throw by Chirinos to end the 9th.
Now gotta get a run.
-
Top 9
James pitching
Parker Ks swinging
Lucroy Ks swinging
Rengifo singles sharply yo the middle
Fletcher bats but inning ends when Chirinos nails Rengifo trying to steal
Mid 9
Angels 5
Astros 4
-
Chirinos, Gurriel, and Brantley a dozen dingers each....
-
This is where Tyler White’s worthlessness is glaring.
-
Well piss.
Missed opportunities
-
Bottom 9
Robles pitching
Chirinos full count, grounds out 4-3
Kemp hits for Straw, Ks swinging
Springer 6-3
Astros lose 5-4.

2nd/3rd no outs.
Nothing.

I enjoyed his story about trying to catch a peacock then thinking better of it.
Turned the volume down soon thereafter though.
