Ho hum. Another first inning solo homer. Seattle leads 1-0 going to the bottom of the 1st.
-
Alvarez with a 110mph bases-loaded double into RF that scores Springer and Altuve following a Springer walk, an Altuve single, and a Bregman walk. Bregman is at 3rd and Alvarez at 2nd, still with no outs.
-
And, of course, White stands there like a fucking mannequin and watches strike three.
-
Grrrr... Reddick pops up to SS, leaving it to Stassi to try to pick up his teammates.
-
And Stassi strikes out (swinging, in case you were watching, Tyler White). Nice opportunity squandered, but the Astros lead 2-1 after one inning.
-
How long is White going to be on this team? A ground ball to SS or a fly anywhere would have scored a run.
Should have been a 3-4 run inning.

Bad result but great AB.

At least he battled. I’m so sick of White I could vomit.

Yeah, I should have pointed that out. 10 pitches, I think, and he really made the pitcher work.
-
Sorry, doing housework, didn't really see what happened other than Cole striking somebody out to end the top of the 2nd, and Kemp with a single but wiped out on a Springer GIDP to end the inning.
Astros still lead 2-1 after 2 innings.
-
Cole dominates the top of the 3rd, briefly discombulated by a weirdly spinning comebacker that briefly handcuffed him.
Turns out Blum was the last Astro to have back-to-back walk-off hits before Yuli. His quote is great: "You know the best thing about that? Watching the Cubs walk off the field. I love beating up on the Cubbies."
-
Altuve running well, but why not challenge that?
-
How long is White going to be on this team?
"Well that's too long."

Worked to kill another rally. White needs to be shipped
-
There are so many good things to say about Josh Reddick. He doesn't care what spot in the order, doesn't care who bats behind him, doesn't care if it's a righty or a lefty pitching, and breaks the other team's heart in right field.
-
Altuve grounds out on a close play 5-3.
Bregman smacks a ball high off one of the LCF pillars and rolls into 3rd base.
Alvarez obliterates a ball into RF for a single, driving in Bregman.
White strikes out, but at least he got the message that he'd better swing at the damn ball.
Reddick singles up the middle, Alvarez stops at 2nd.
Stassi hits the ball hard but winds up with a 5-4 FC.
Astros lead 3-1 after 3 innings.

I thought that was the Wolf Brand Chili guy?

Neighbor, how long has it been since you had a big, thick, steamin' bowl of Wolf Brand chili?

+1.

I just got out-Whataburgered.
-
Crawford strikes out (looking, I think).
Santana singles up the middle off the mound. He hit that ball pretty hard.
Vogelstump strikes out on a foul tip.
Narvaez beats the shift on a single to LF (with two strikes, of course).
Seager strikes out on a high FB.
Still 3-1 going to the bottom of the 4th.
-
Fun to watch Cole rock and fire.
-
I just got out-Whataburgered.
My granddad used to always follow that commercial up with "not long enough"
-
Neighbor, how long has it been since you had a big, thick, steamin' bowl of Wolf Brand chili?
When Wolf Brand was on the menu (thankfully, not too often), my sister and I would beg to eat in front of the TV (with "TV trays", of course) just in case that commercial came on. Then hilarity ensued.
There wasn't as much to entertain kids back then.
-
Our special treat was those (probably awful) "Mexican" TV dinners with those tiny tacos in one of the trays. If we had been especially good, we could eat those on the old folding metal TV trays while we watched The Rifleman.
-
Straw grounds out 4-3.
Kemp works a walk.
Springer pops out to RF.
Altuve strikes out swinging.
Astros lead 3-1 after 4 innings.
-

I'm scared to say anything, but this is the Cole they needed to show up today.

Hmmmmmm...now wondering if my father had a secret second family.
-
???? singles on a slow chopper that Straw can't grab.
Murphy strikes out looking at a big bender that catches the inside corner.
Moore hits a should-be DP ball that only results in a FC at 2nd. Straw's feed to Altuve wasn't smooth.
Straw makes up for it by tagging Moore on an attempted steal. For some reason Moore didn't bother to slide. Very odd.
Astros lead 3-1 going to the bottom of the 5th.
-
BTW: "The Rifleman" had the greatest opening in television history. Keeping the extra bullets in his shirt pocket was beyond cool.
-
Bregman pops out to shallow LCF.
Alvarez rips a line drive that Santana gloves.
White strikes out swinging.
Astros lead 3-1 after 5 innings.
-
White stays consistent.
-

We used to try to flip our BB guns like he did. It didn't work well.
-
White stays consistent.
Perhaps he wants to finish out the last couple of weeks of his MLB career on an even keel.
-

The Daisy Red Rider. Glad I'm not the only one that tried that, and failed miserably.
-
Great point by Blummer, I'm so fucking glad Ron Kulpa isn't behind the plate today
-
And, of course, White stands there like a fucking mannequin and watches strike three.
Dear Past Austro,
If it makes you feel any better, he's swung well over two breaking balls to strike out in his 2nd and 3rd at bats.
-
The Daisy Red Rider. Glad I'm not the only one that tried that, and failed miserably.
We would shoot at everything from the hip, like Lucas McCain. We never hit anything. Various dads told us that nobody really shoots like that and you had to put it up against your shoulder and actually aim in order to hit anything. We didn't believe them.
-
and breaks the other team's heart in right field.
Reddick is right on cue.

Smith puts up quite a battle before finally succumbing to an inside FB.
Crawford grounds out 4-3.
Santana singles to CF.
Stumpelbach lines out on a fine diving catch by Reddick in RF.
Astros lead 3-1 going to the bottom of the 6th. Cole at something like 93 pitches.
-
Reddick is pretty good.
-
A quick camera cut to the bullpen led to a close up of Cy Sneed.
Blummer promptly quipped "Here's a quick look at Yukon Cornelius, AKA Cy Sneed."
-
Mike Wright in to pitch for Seattle. His numbers don't look great; let's light him up.
Reddick flies out to CF.
Stassi flies out to Smith at the wall in LCF.
Straw singles into CF.
Kemp flies out to CF.
Astros lead 3-1 after 6 innings.
-
I’m really not sure about our team strategy of “always swing first pitch when Straw is on first”

South Denton lost 6-2.

Especially odd since they seem to love watching first pitch strikes in all other situations.

Some of it Is on Straw. He should be more aggressive IMO. For a guy with his speed, he should run more and earlier in counts.
-
Cole back out for the 7th.
Narvaez strikes out swinging at a high FB.
Seager flies out to Springer in CF.
Beckham strikes out swinging at a slider down and away.
That's probably the end of the day for Cole. 10 strikeouts.
Astros lead 3-1 going to the bottom of the 7th.
-
For a guy with his speed, he should run more and earlier in counts.
I think he's still getting comfortable with new pitchers and their moves. And as the new guy, I'll bet he's still pretty sensitive about possibly taking the bat out of the hands of guys like Springer and Altuve.
-
Alvarez I-walked after taking ball one to bring up... >sigh< Tyler White.
-
Surprised they even threw one to him, with White coming up.
-
Springer flies out to CF.
Altuve singles to CF. Advances to 2nd base on a bizarre passed ball.
Bregman grounds out 5-3. Altuve remains at 2nd.
Alvarez to 1st on an IBB. With Tyler White behind him, I'd do that too.
White lines out to LF.
Astros lead 3-1 after 7 innings.
-

You assume he has a green light. I do not.

I always wanted to do that, so I could say; "But, but, I'm eating it right now?"
-
McHugh in to pitch the 8th. Marisnick in to CF, Reddick moves to LF, Springer moves to RF, Kemp out.
Somebody (Murphy?) grounds hard to Altuve in the shift, out 4-3.
Moore flies out to CF.
Smith hits a chopper over the mound and beats it out for a single.
Crawford works a walk.
All of a sudden things are a little too exciting. Hinch comes out to get the ball from McHugh. Pressly in.
Santana strikes out looking at a heater at the knees.
Astros lead 3-1 going to the bottom of the 8th.
-
Pressly!
-
You assume he has a green light. I do not.
You are correct, probably on both our assumptions.
Nice to get out of that jam.
-
You assume he has a green light. I do not.
He doesn't. 100% from the dugout. Hinch said as much the other day.
-
Somebody get the name your price tool. Time for some insurance.
-
Good to see Stassi put a good swing on one. Astros with runners at 2B and 3B, nobody out...
-
2nd/3rd nobody out . . .
-
Jake with a 2-run knock!
-
Jake!!
-
They're wearing Beckham out this inning.
-
Straw with a nice AB. He can play.
-
Straw with a nice AB. He can play.
I was glad to see him attack the first pitch. I think he needs to be more aggressive at the plate. Hit an at 'em, but it was a good approach and a good swing.
-
Altuve drives in a run with his third hit of the day...
-
Altuve!
-
Altuve has looked like himself since returning.
-

He knows who he is. A walk is a double if they let him run. Straw’s working the count is fine by me.
-
Altuve has looked like himself since returning.
He blistered some balls yesterday, and had nothing to show. They fell today.
-
Wright still pitching for Seattle.
Reddick hits the ball hard into the shift, but the 2nd baseman can't field it. Don't know if it's a hit or an error, but he's on 1st.
Stassi doubles into the LF corner, Reddick goes to 3rd.
Straw smacks a like drive right at the drawn-in 2nd baseman for the first out.
Marisnick singles past the drawn-in infield, Reddick and Stassi score, Jake goes to 2nd on an absolutely dreadful throw by Santana.
Springer strikes out swinging.
Altuve singles to RF, Marisnick scores.
Bregman out 4-3 on a checked-swing ground ball.
Astros lead 6-1 after 8 innings.
-
I always wanted to do that, so I could say; "But, but, I'm eating it right now?"
Kids were so easy to entertain back then.
-
Sweep!
James mowing 'em down.
-
James gets the 9th.
Stumpelstump strikes out on a checked swing on a nice slider by James.
Narvaez strikes out swinging through a high FB.
Somebody strikes out on a knee-high FB.
Astros win 6-1. Nice job by James.
-
Sweep!

When was the last time you saw an intentional walk to a rookie playing in good 16th game?
-
When was the last time you saw an intentional walk to a rookie playing in good 16th game?
He got IBB a bunch of times in AAA, and he was a rookie there also. He is a keeper.
-
Altuve has looked like himself since returning.
Since returning June 20th:
Altuve has
-raised his BA from .235 to .255
-collected 14 hits
-had 4 multi-hit games
-driven in 3 and scored 6 runs
