First at-bat Alvarez does not homer. He sucks. Send him back down.

I'm sitting behind the plate today - he's a big dude

Wait, are these the same seats from which your father screamed something everyone could hear on the tv broadcast? Do I have that story right?

Not a fan of Fisher at lead off spot.

Luhnow waited to long to bring him up, fire Luhnow.

What was Crane thinking when he hired him? What has he ever done? I want McClane back!
-
It seems like the Astros should try and get some hits here.
-
Alvarez!!! 2 Run BOMB

Wow Yordan. That ball was CRUSHED

Ok, well maybe Alvarez can hang around a little longer.

You post this right as they announce that Berkman will be doing color in Blum's place over the next series.

That's what I'm talking about.

Early returns are promising

Let the wild unrealistic expectations begin!

That's ridiculous. Those seats were in Chicago.

Sure would be nice if this kid can stick around

Tyler White shifts uncomfortably on the bench.

So with two swings this guy ties White's hr total on the season.

And about a quarter of his RBI

I move to have Deadpool 2’s “Holy Shitballs” as Yordan’s walkup music.

Unrealistic? Legitimate power hitter.

Unrealistic? Legitimate power hitter.
So now over the top hyperbole isn’t allowed in the GZ because of Alvarez?

I expect 4 MVPs but only because Bregman steals votes in the other seasons.

Well, ok. Have him scream something again so we know where you are. Or you could just give your location relative to the two Geico cavemen masquerading as ZZ Top circa Rio Grande Mud.

That’s crazy, he doesn’t even play defense.

The sad thing is there are people out there who are actually believe something like that will happen. And of course if not then he’s a failure.

Now we’re cooking.

That's the thing, from everything I've gathered and from the very little I've seen, this lunatic is just a great hitter who happens to be a giant human that results in his hitting the ball a goddamn long way.
I mean, just now, that was a pretty good pitch. He didn't crush a mistake, he hit a good pitch where the pitcher wanted to put it. And rather than try to pull it he just went with it. It seems like that's what he always does, and that's an incredible level of maturity and wisdom for someone with that kind of natural power.

And he was acquired for a reliever at the deadline, so no comparisons will be made to any hall of famers, of course.

5 rows directly behind them; luckily for the viewership, probably out of the frame.

One odd thing is just last year, there were public scouting reports that had him with 55 power. Baseball projections are hard.

2 MVPs would be fine for me.

Not at all. He can throw left-handed.

On the other hand the last guy with similar expectations both offensively and defensively who homered in his first major league game was Jon Singleton. So from that perspective the bar could be set pretty low.

As far as we know, Alvarez doesn't have his dealer on speed dial.

Great job by Pressly.

I was resigned to a worse outcome. Miley owes him.

I am watching sans commentary. Can someone explain what just happened? Infield fly, interference called on Kemp, Mayfield to first?
-
Kemp on 1B, Mayfield hits a pop-up near 1B, Kemp runs into the first baseman. Kemp out on interference, dead ball, Mayfield to 1B.

Technically, I think the first baseman ran up Kemp's back as they were both watching the popup (or maybe Kemp was starting to back up and they collided), but it doesn't matter, it's Kemp's responsibility not to block the first baseman's clear path to the play.

Gotcha, thanks.

Last month during a lull in the rain delay in San Antonio during the Express/Missions game, after the stands cleared for shelter, I wondered over behind the Express dugout where Stubbs, Tucker, and Alvarez were hanging out waiting on the far end. Tucker seemed preoccupied while Stubbs and Alvarez were very engaging tossing bubblegum to the few kids and the one old guy who didn't mind a little rain. Alvarez seems to have a pretty good command of English and a nice sense of humor. One kid kept yelling "Kyle, Kyle, Kyle ... can I have your autograph... Kyle, Kyle, Kyle" but Tucker wouldn't turn around. I told the kid to say, "Please Mr Tucker can I have your autograph?" Guess what? Being polite worked.

After two quick outs, James issues back to back walks. Now gotta bring Osuna in for a save situation.
-
Osuna induces a comebacker.
Astros win 4-0

Thank goodness for Pressly.

And just and FYI...since the '17 postseason, Love Street has been my go-to GameDay brew. But I recently switched to Crawford Bock. Since then, the Astros are something like 25-6. You're welcome.
-
Very disappointing effort by James. Osuna could have used the day off.

Osuna had the day off yesterday. And the day before that. He also had off last Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In fact, before today, he'd made only one appearance in the last week. He'll have a day off tomorrow, and at least again on Thursday. He's fine. If anything he needs the work.

I know I said ditto in my lost above, but I was more agreeing with the disappointment of James not being able to finish off the game, not the fact that Osuna pitched. Should have clarified.

I think we all wish James could have nailed it down. I just disagree with the implication that Osuna is somehow been overworked or is tired or otherwise needs a day off. He hasn't pitched much lately.
