Devers is a career 4 for 33 against the Astros, but all four of those hits were RBI doubles.

Not to mention his inside the park homer in the ALDS.

Nunez should have had 3 errors last night, but was spared by the circumstances.
-
I'm already wiped out. Late night last night, up at 5:00 am for the Texans game, all morning in the baking sun, watching the Texans pull their dicks out of their way at the last minute, now getting tuned up for Game 2. If I miss any calls tonight, I apologize in advance, feel free to challenge.

Nice AB by Altuve.

Got a call there.

Back to back walks.
Here's Yuli...
-
Come on, Yuli. Damn.
-
Yuli got carved up there.
-
Uncharacteristic bad AB from La Piña.

Bregman with a patient walk too.
Price painting corners now though. K’d Yuli.

89 mph first pitch meatballs to Altuve and Yuli.

He knows he’s got to get ahead. He may not get away with it for much longer though.

He painted a corner to White on the first pitch. I was hoping he'd stick with his previous pattern.
-
Betts is not subtle.
-
Not a good start by Cole.
-
1-0 Sox after five pitches
-
Not fooling anyone so far.
-
Sox being aggressive early in the count. Hopefully Cole can adjust and use that against them.

WTF Cole?

Not a great start. Cole needs to settle down.

Benintendi singles to RF on the first ptich, Betts scores
Martinez lines out to 2B, Altuve drops the exchange, so no chance to double off Benintendi
Bogaerts taps back to the mound, Cole looks to 2B, but decides on 1B and throws it into the camera well...Benintendi to 3B, Bogaerts to 2B on the TE1
Pearce...3-0...walks

Correa ground to SS, Bogaerts takes his time, nice and easy throw to 1B, and Correa beats it out for an infield single
Maldonado doubles down the LF line, Correa to 3B
Reddick pops out F4 on the first pitch
Springer punches a double right over 1B, Correa scores, Maldonado scores
Altuve...0-2...strikes out swinging
But the Astros tie it up 2-2

Neither was that.

Darling trying to sound knowledgeable by dropping the same nugget that the Astros had some injury issues. For the second night in a row, he appears to have no clue as to who was hurt.

His theory about the batters loosening up when a great pitcher is on the mound may sound good, but it's obvious he hasn't watched a Verlander start this year.

Usual metric: you’d take a split starting on the road, but this game is still in reach. Need to get some base runners in the 8th to get back to the top of the order.

The 7th isn't done yet. That's step 1.

The fact the Cole pissed away a 2 run lead early is almost as infuriating as the fact that the Astros hitters have completely abandoned the approach that got things going.
Wild swings at shitty pitches is not a recipe for success.
-
B7:
McCullers in
Betts...full count...walks
Benintendi strikes out on a wild pitch that gets away from Maldonado, Betts to 2B
Passed ball...Betts to 3B
Martinez...infield now in...full count...strikes out swinging
With Bogaerts at the plate, another passed ball on the firt pitch, Betts scores
That's it, Lance out, James in with a 1-0 count...
Bogaerts...3-0...walks
Pearce grounds out 6-3
6-4 Sox

Yes. The sudden lack of good at bats is jarring.

Come on!!
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!!

Yes. The sudden lack of good at bats is jarring.
It's unfortunately very familiar.

Yes. The sudden lack of good at bats is jarring.
Bregman is the only one retaining any semblance of an approach.

Tony Kemp missed that by a hair.

Are you kidding me, foul pole?

Damn! Less than a foot.

Using your game #3 starter in game #2, with your game #1 starter shitting himself inside out in hospital, is an interesting choice.
-
Whatever the outcome, hell of an AB by Kemp.
-
Tough play well executed by the Bosox.
Now Marwin down 0-2

Jesus Fucking christ, Rick Porcello is a slop throwing 3rd starter. Stop making him look like Cy Fucking Young.

How does Marwin swing at the little league high fastball strike out pitch? settle down.

Another slop pitch yanked foul.

T8:
Porcello in for the Sox
Kemp, pinch hitting for White...0-2...1-2...fouling off pitches...grounds out 3-1
Marwin...0-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch in his eyes
Correa...quickly 0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
6-4 Sox
-
That was motherfucking pitiful.

Started on same trajectory as the 2 breaking balls before it?
-
That first pitch FB to Correa was the pitch he should have jumped on to RF.
-
If we end up losing by this score or a score close to it, the Cole throwing error, the Machete collapse and the magic rolling on the shelf ball that allowed Devers to score will be the things that haunt.
-
Hey Google, how do you get Red Sox cum stains off a cheap suit?

Jesus Fucking christ, Rick Porcello is a slop throwing 3rd starter. Stop making him look like Cy Fucking Young.
He is a Cy Young winner.

Exactly.

That's why you weren't on the ALDS roster, Rondon.

Anyone else want to throw some BP?

Is AJ trying to get everyone acclimated? His BP usage is slightly atypical.

As many reasons for this shit show, Cole not showing up until the 4th is key.

That'll do it for Rondon.
This game has been dick-stomped then pissed away.

IDK what the numbers say but he always seems to own us.
He’s a lumbering ninny against everyone else but he always gets the hit against us.

That, and the bats going silent after Marwin's HR.

Cole first and foremost.
Then Machete, Then the relief corps.
And the offense figures in there somewhere.
-
B8:
Devers singles to RF on the first pitch
Kinsler strikes out swinging...may that was a pathetic swing
Bradley strikes out swinging
Moreland, pinch hitting for Vazquez, grounds sharply to 2B...shiftfuck...Devers to 2B
Leon pinch runs for Moreland
James out, Rondon in
Betts doubles to RCF, Devers scores, Leon to 3B
Rondon out, Sipp in
Benintendi...3-0...flies out F8
7-4 Sox
-
If there is any possibility of a need for a future 25 man roster: Hello, Peacock. Rondon, we hardly knew ye.
-
4 runs should be enough.
This.
-
This is a good chance to rough up Kimbrel.
-
That's why you weren't on the ALDS roster, Rondon.
I think AJ figured that this game was likely an L anyway, and it was an opportunity to find out if he can trust Rondon again. He found out.

If we can get to Bregman...

Yeah, I'd be surprised to see him again in a pressure situation.

It’s a clusterfuck, sir.

Gattis PH for Machete.

What a fucking bullshit at bat by Gattis. YOU GOT A FUCKING FAT ONE 3-1 AND YOU DID FUCKING DICK WITH IT!
This is just a miserable overall performance.
-
Dammit.

Man, whatever happened to zone control? The guys have swung at a lot of bad pitches tonight.

Springer with the tease.

There's a heartbeat.

Too little, too late.

T9
Kimbrel in for the Sox
Gattis, pinch hitting for Maldonado...full up...pops out F4
Reddick...0-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch over his head
Springer doubles to LF
Wild pitch, Springer to 3B
Altuve singles off the top of the LF wall, Springer scores
Bregman flies out F7 at the wall
Astros stomp the ever loving shit out of their dicks and head back to Houston, series tied 1-1

Just missed it. <sigh>

Well, it was only one of seven and taking a game on the road is mission accomplished I reckon, never thought were would sweep these mofos anyway.

He was far from sharp, but with just a little luck he gets out of that inning with the 4-2 lead intact. Instead, Bradley slaps a two-out excuse-me double that does goofy things along the wall. That's unfortunate, but I don't think that's a meltdown.
-

Any word on Gonzalez? He played after hitting the Green Monster, but how is he?

I agree. All the breaks went to Beantown today. That is hopefully what it takes for them to win.

It happens.

Time to nut up, Dallas.

I almost never disagree with you, but I do here to a degree. I understand the first inning; he let his emotions override his pitching. The third was more than a little bad luck. Marwin was a hair away from catching the ball Pearce hit (I wish he had thrown a two strike slider), and if Bradley’s ball had not taken the weird bounce onto the pad, Devers would have stopped at third. Getting down to Bradley 2-0 was a killer because he could sit fastball.
I am much more worried about our failure to drive in those baserunners they have given us. I do not know how or why Yuli keeps turning a fastball down the middle into a two hop chopper to SS. We split in Boston, which should be cause for celebration, but I have this nagging feeling we are behind. The Sox regained their swagger, but Bregman’s 9th inning flyball should have reminded them the Astros do not quit.
-

They will not be the only ones haunted by Bregmans's last out - that may likely be his last hitable pitch for a while.
Both teams have had some of their shine knocked off; now know they are in a dog fight.
-
When Matt Barnes next gets into a game, watch him go to his left forearm between pitches with his right (pitching) hand. There is something shiny on that arm ( I doubt it was perspiration last night) and what he's doing is not a natural motion. He's loading up with something and a trained umpire should notice that. I'm surprised someone in the Astros dugout did not notice.

What's the old saying about momentum being as good as tomorrow's starter?
We split, but it was a little deflating to lose Game #2, especially in the manner in which it was lost. They will leave Boston on a high and we come home with a little road rash. If the results had been flipped, the emotions would be very different.
Anyway. MMP will be rocking - unlike Fenway which was eerily quiet most of the time - and that is going to help the home 9 get their vaunt on.

I appreciate this and see now I was a bit more emotional and irrational than I typically would be. It's funny how easy it is to let the emotions take over in the elevated stakes. I can't imagine how it must be for them.

So, I went to the game watch at MMP last night. It really was fun. Of course, the beer, if you buy it, is expensive, but it did have a game-like feel.
The con is you can't mute the audio.

They had all the kid stuff outside too. We met up with a friend who had taken her kid and it was great for them.

Right. Better to remain silent than to open your mouth and prove to everyone that you are clueless.

Yes, AJ was asked about it.
And as usual, AJ was fucking spot on in his response.
