Kemp gets his shot.
-
Please let us get good first inning Keuchel today...
-
Kemp gets his shot.
I like seeing Kemp in there. He's a handy guy to have around, especially against a righty who throws a ton of fastballs.
-
Right now is not a good time for my DirectTV Now to take a shit.
-
Come on, let's jump on this motherfucker early.
-
Ford provided the saddest double call that I've ever heard. He clearly thought Bregman's rip was getting out.
-
Ford provided the saddest double call that I've ever heard. He clearly thought Bregman's rip was getting out.
I was watching from the porch and couldn't tell, how close was it to going out?
-
T1:
Springer...quickly 0-2...blown away...Springer started his swing after the ball was in the mitt.
Altuve grounds out 6-3
Bregman doubles off the top of the LCF wall...hits the yellow line, centimeters from a HR
Gurriel...full count...strikes out looking at a fastball down the middle
No score.
-
I was watching from the porch and couldn't tell, how close was it to going out?
As close as it gets. It essentially hit off the top of the wall.
-
If only Clevenger was an all star... it’d be 1-0. I thought strike 3 on Yuli was off the corner. I’d like another look.
-

Looked right over the plate to me. But coulda been fooled. Either way, can't take a fastball for strike three w/RISP.
-

I thought it was out until I saw Brantley picking it up.

B1:
Lindor...0-2...1-2...grounds out 6-3
Brantley grounds out 3U
Ramirez grounds out 6-3

Good inning by Keuchel.

Jerry Lane is struggling a little bit behind home plate
Is he in your ears and in your eyes?
-
T2:
Marwin...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
Reddick...quickly 0-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch that bounces
Correa takes a ball a foot off the plate for strike two to fill the count...walks
McCann grounds out 3U on a nice diving stop by Encarnacion.

Yes... Finally got KBME synchronized to TBS on Youtube TV.
-
Astros need to make some adjustments. They are completely overmatched by Clevinger this first time through.
-
Right now is not a good time for my DirectTV Now to take a shit.
Mine too and I'm in north Texas.
-
Mine too and I'm in north Texas.
It says it's my connection, which isn't true because, you know, you can see me.
-
Yes... Finally got KBME synchronized to TBS on Youtube TV.
I had to listen to the tbs broadcast on my drive home.
Stopped in the garage to put my head on the drill press table so I could put a 3/4" bit in my ear.
-
It says it's my connection, which isn't true because, you know, you can see me.
I'm firing these fuckers. Every time it rains.
-
I'm firing these fuckers. Every time it rains.
I'm on the internet version. Rain isn't an excuse.
-
I had DirecTV but decided I didn't need that many channels. I did PSVue for a few months before YoutubeTV was available in my area and then switched to YouTubeTV. I pay for MLB.tv as well so I stream everything now.
-
I see TBS has stopped showing the strike zone...
-
My DirecTV is working fine. Of course there's not a cloud in the sky. Not that it would matter if it were pouring rain, my dish is installed correctly.
-
I see TBS has stopped showing the strike zone...
Mine has it.
It's just little corner brackets.
-
Mine has it.
It's just little corner brackets.
Yeah, the few pitches I saw before didn't have those little corner brackets... Now it does.
-
B2:
Encarnacion...full count...flies out F9
Donaldson lines up the middle, Altuve there in the shift, throws him out 4-3
Diaz...taking his time...lines one up the middle...outfield shift on so no outfielder around, and Marwin finally runs it down in CF for a double.
Guyer grounds into FC, Diaz out 5U as he runs right into the tag at 3B.
No score.
-
My DirecTV is working fine. Of course there's not a cloud in the sky. Not that it would matter if it were pouring rain, my dish is installed correctly.
You have the only dish installed correctly in America.
-
You have the only dish installed correctly in America.
Mine worked through heavy wet snow and pouring rain when I had it...
-
You have the only dish installed correctly in America.
I don't know what slack-jawed yokel installed yours, but seriously...you need to call DirecTV and get them out to fix it.
-
It's raining sideways in the Hill Country and my dish is doing just fine, in case yall wanted to know.
Hoping the 2nd time through the lineup is better against Clevinger.
-
I'm firing these fuckers. Every time it rains.
It's funny. I just fired them yesterday; going back to U-verse.
This dude's 94 really gets on the batter quick
-
I don't know what slack-jawed yokel installed yours, but seriously...you need to call DirecTV and get them out to fix it.
We have a guy coming out tomorrow because the guys that do the shrubs and whatnot clipped the cable from the dish. I'm using the TBS app to watch the game right now. But anyway, I'm going to have him check on that, because if we just get light rain, the damn signal goes out. I'm pretty sure it went out with just heavy clouds one time.
-
Springer has been carved up today. Two strike outs on six pitches. He hasn't come close to contact.
-
Kemp is a gnat, which I am using as a term of endearment in this instance

-
Kemp as DH is already paying off.
-
Astros with runners on the corners, one out...
-
Gotta luv Altuve smiling at the PO move.
-
Bregman hit by pitch to load the bases...one out for Yuli...
-
Juiced for La Piña
-
54 pitches by Clevinger so far.....
-
No room for Marvin....
-
May not see another FB this AB.
-
Damn I thought he got that
-
La Pina swung through a meatball for strike 3.
-
nearly 30 pitches in this inning - closer to the BP....
-
T3:
Kemp...takes five pitches to make it 3-2...takes ball four for a leadoff walk
Springer...quickly 0-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch a foot off the plate
With Altuve at the plate, errant pick off at 1B and Kemp to 2B on the TE1
Altuve singles to LF, Kemp to 3B
Bregman hit by pitch, Altuve to 2B
Gurriel...quickly 0-2...strikes out swinging...first time in his career Yuli has struck out with the bases loaded
Marwin...hammers the first pitch 500 feet but foul...1-1...2-1...flies out F7
Astros load the bases, but get squat
No score

Dammit.
-
rats
-
Also, I'm so glad that the TBS scoring widget thing thinks it's important to know the fucking series score but not the count at all times.
-
Dammit.
Just 2nd time through the order..........
-
Also, I'm so glad that the TBS scoring widget thing thinks it's important to know the fucking series score but not the count at all times.
That's so someone tuning in to see Andy Griffith can catch up with the series.
-
That's so someone tuning in to see Andy Griffith can catch up with the series.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaatlock!
Oh, it's on right now!
-
Hazel Mae is no Julia Morales.
-
Back to back singles by the 8 and 9 hitter, Indians have two on, nobody, top of the order...
-
Right now is not a good time for my DirectTV Now to take a shit.
It must be the day for it, broadband in our area went down about 12 hours ago and they predicted a 36 hour outage. Watching on the tablet isn't quite the same as watching on the 60 inch tv. I hope it ain't a fucking omen.
-
I'm glad McCann is in today. I feel a Brgman/McCann out coming.
-
Damm
-
Jerry Lane, could we trouble you to make a strike call before the next pitch is delivered?
-
Indians grab a 1-0 lead...runner at 3B, two out...
-
B3:
Gomes singles up the middle
Kipnis singles to RF, Gomes to 2B
Lindor bunts, out 1-3, Gomes to 3B, Kipnis to 2B...not sure if it'll be a sacrifice, he was bunting for a hit
Brantley flies out F8, Gomes scores, Kipnis to 3B on the sac fly
Ramirez flies out F8 as the announcer reaches orgasm on the can o corn
1-0 Indians
-
Let's get that one back, boys.
And some more.
-
That could have been a lot worse.
It did not take long to realize how incredibly awful Eckersley is. And for some reason Eck is corrupting Orsillo who prior to this has had a full career of being competent play by play announcer.
-
Keuchel not happy with McCann
-
Strike 1 to Reddick def outside
-
Geez...back to taking fat pitches right over the plate. Every pitcher in the league knows it's automatically 0-1 to every Astro hitter.
-
SWING THE FUCKING BAT MCCANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
That could have been a lot worse.
It did not take long to realize how incredibly awful Eckersley is. And for some reason Eck is corrupting Orsillo who prior to this has had a full career of being competent play by play announcer.
I can’t stand the way he puts “piece” at the end of every type of baseball activity as if that somehow makes what he’s saying cool. Once I realized that was going to happen at least once an inning I’ve been listening to the radio broadcast.
I’m even getting pretty good at syncing things up. It only means I’mmore than a bit behind HH and his apparently mainlined DTV connection. (He always seems to be at least two pitches ahead of whatever I’m watching)
-
T4:
Reddick...3-2 chasing ball five...flies out F7
Correa flies out F8
McCann takes a meat ball for strike one, takes a meatball for stike two, waives weakly at a ball three feet off the plate. Pathetic.
1-0 Indians
-
SWING THE FUCKING BAT MCCANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He heard you.
-

No kidding. Where exactly would you like your fastball, sir?
-
What a terrible At bat by McCann.
-
No kidding. Where exactly would you like your fastball, sir?
Apparently it's not right down the fucking center of the plate.

Is that a quote from Blum regarding Ashby?
-
If the Astros are fortunate enough to in another game this year, they have to think long and hard about Correa's place on the roster.
-
Geez...back to taking fat pitches right over the plate. Every pitcher in the league knows it's automatically 0-1 to every Astro hitter.
That was a ball outside.
-
If the Astros are fortunate enough to in another game this year, they have to think long and hard about Correa's place on the roster.
I think we need his solid defense. No way he doesn’t play.
-
I’m even getting pretty good at syncing things up. It only means I’mmore than a bit behind HH and his apparently mainlined DTV connection. (He always seems to be at least two pitches ahead of whatever I’m watching)
Me too. In synch and two swings behind HH.
-
That was a ball outside.
The first pitch to McCann? It was right down the middle.
-
If the Astros are fortunate enough to in another game this year, they have to think long and hard about Correa's place on the roster.
Who would replace him and who would play shortstop?
-
The first pitch to McCann? It was right down the middle.
No. Reddick.
-
That was a ball outside.
Every taken called strike fastball by the Astros is a meatball right down the middle. You should know this by now.
-
Who would replace him and who would play shortstop?
They're not going to do it, but the answer is Bregman, with Yuli or Marwin at 3rd
-
Who would replace him and who would play shortstop?
Marwin or Bregman would play SS. I realize it'd be hard, but you have to resign yourself you're essentially getting less than the pitcher hitting with him in the lineup.
-
Eckerley literally just babbles incoherently
-
B4:
Encarnacion grounds out 6-3
Donaldson...3-0...swinging fouls it off...walks
Diaz pops out F4
Guyer strikes out looking
1-0 Indians

There are alternatives.
-
Let’s get some runs, boys!
-
There are alternatives.
I know. Just don't have the energy for all that.

There are alternatives.
Yeah, like rum.

Kemp must have been surprised by that 3-1 FB. It was in his wheelhouse.

Third time is the charm for George! He looked awful his first two at bats.
-
Go George!
-
Hoping the 2nd time through the lineup is better against Clevinger.
How about the 3rd?
-
Let's get an Astros hit parade going!
-
Third time is the charm for George! He looked awful his first teo at bats.
First time he made contact today, and he hit the shit out of it.
-
The 7th pitch.
-
Bauer warming
-
Altuve swings at ball 4 a foot outside
-
You hang em, we bang em.
This is a Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
-
No guarantee that would have been called a ball but I wish Jose hadn't swung at that one.
-
Surprised they left Clevinger in against Bregman
-
Altuve swings at ball 4 a foot outside
After fouling off two cookies.
-
93 pitches
-
Clevinger is a dancin', dancin', danciiiin'!
He's a dancin' macheeeeen!
-
After fouling off two cookies.
Strike 2 was the one to mash
-
I love Alex Bregman. His approach at the plate is a thing of beauty.
-
Yuli is due a hit.
-
Marwin or Bregman would play SS. I realize it'd be hard, but you have to resign yourself you're essentially getting less than the pitcher hitting with him in the lineup.
Who would be added to the roster in his place?
-
La pina k’s for the 3rd time
-
T5:
Kemp...full count again...flies out F7
Springer homers to LF on the first pitch
Altuve...works the count full...waives at a pitch three feet off the plate...had a couple good pitches to hit, but fouled them off
Bregman...full count...walks
Gurriel WAY late on strike three swinging...his third K of the day
But the Astros tie it up 1-1
-
Yuli missed the same fastball he watched for strike 3 in the first inning.
-
First time he made contact today, and he hit the shit out of it.
Hyperbole sure, but isn't that a microcosm of his career?
-
Yuli has not looked good in any of his three bats against Clevinger
-
Yuli has not looked good in any of his three bats against Clevinger
Consistently behind the fastball.
-
Who would be added to the roster in his place?
Rondon, probably. They'd add another pitcher anyway, so one current position player would be left off.
-
Consistently behind the fastball.
Yep, and he swung over a poor breaking ball with the bases loaded in the 3rd.
-
The plate is in the shadows at this point, the pitch coming out of the light...
Granted, it was the same w/ Springer.
-
IMO the only way Correa is left off the roster is if he injured.
-
Damn.
-
I honestly believe I can recognize pitches better than eckersley.
Damm you lindor.
-
He got all of that one...
-
Fucking knew that was coming after the jabbering about how Keuchel keeps the ball in the yard.
-
With two outs..
-
B5;
Gomes...full count...flies out F9
Kipnis strikes out swinging
Lindor crushes a home run to LF on the first pitch...hanging 88 mph "fastball" right in the wheelhouse.
Brantley grounds out 3U on the first pitch
But the Indians retake the lead 2-1
-
Good ol' reliable Keuchel.
-
IMO the only way Correa is left off the roster is if he injured.
If he's not, and he's simply turned into a sub-.150 hitter with no power, it doesn't bode well.
-
Well 1 run wasn't going to win it.
Let's get after them.
-
Fucking knew that was coming after the jabbering about how Keuchel keeps the ball in the yard.
You could see McCann asking for that ball up. Why, I have no idea. But it appears he hit "his spot" with that.
-
Good ol' reliable Keuchel.
He needs run support, and that was always likely to be the case.
-
It's my fault.
I just said "Keuchel's really pitching well" with the word "well" in synch with the swing.
Fuck. Sorry.
-
It's my fault.
I just said "Keuchel's really pitching well" with the word "well" in synch with the swing.
Fuck. Sorry.
Don't blame yourself. After calling around any department of AT&T that would take my call, I finally got my DirectTV Now service up and... BLAMMO.
So blame AT&T.
-
ah the old 6 inches off the plate strike.
-
ah the old 6 inches off the plate strike.
Yeah. They don't need help with Correa, blue.
-
If Correa can’t hit that, he’s not going to be of any use offensively anytime soon.
-
So far I've seen 5 incredibly fat pitches, and one that's been hit further than the infield. You're not going to win many games popping up spinning curves at your thighs.
-
If Correa can’t hit that, he’s not going to be of any use offensively anytime soon.
He hasn't been any use offensively since June.
-
T6:
Bauer in for the Tribe...
Marwin lines out to RF...blistered but right at Guyer's nuts
Reddick singles to RCF
Correa pops out F4
McCann...0-2...1-2 strikes out swinging
2-1 Indians
-
At least Correa can field his position. What exactly are we getting from Brian McCann right now?
-
Reading about how far behind the fastball McCann is today still doesn't prepare you for actually seeing it.
-
He hasn't been any use offensively since June.
I’m aware. Simply agreeing with your suggestion earlier of putting Marwin or Bregman at short for the remainder of the playoffs and getting Kemp in the lineup every game.
-
Fucking Keuchel.
-
Keuchel out, McHugh in for the 6th
-
At least Correa can field his position. What exactly are we getting from Brian McCann right now?
Shut the fuck up. Go fucking away.
-
Fucking Keuchel.
He wasn't terrible.
Unfortunately that's his 2018 yardstick.
-
At least Correa can field his position. What exactly are we getting from Brian McCann right now?
A catcher. What's been wrong with his defense?
-
B6:
McHugh in for the Astros
Ramirez pops out F6
Encarnacion...0-2...1-2...strike out swinging
Donaldson...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
2-1

McHuge.
-
McHugh was nails that inning
-
Nice inning from McHugh. Give him another one. That breaking ball has to be tough in these shadows.
-
He wasn't terrible.
Unfortunately that's his 2018 yardstick.
The pitch to Lindor for the home run was not smart (regardless of outcome) but, otherwise, he pitched fine.
-
Good job Tony!

It would be fun to extend this inning to get Bregman to the plate.

Let’s focus on getting Kemp home first.

Let’s focus on getting Kemp home first.
Bauer's working on it.

Runners on the corners for Altuve. Need a good at bat here.

He hit the shit out of that ball.

swinging bunt!

Kemp sets the table nicely for the top of the order.

Astros on the corners, nobody out...

Wasn’t pretty, but it will do.

That'll do.
Tie game.

Altuve with and RBI fielder's choice...tied 2-2
-
Nice job, Tyler

Oh yes Bauer w the crap throw everyone safe!

2nd throwing error by Bauer this inning. La Pina needs to make him pay.

I feel like Bauer could use a little something on his hands...

Late on another fastball.

Yeah, can't let that go unpunished

I feel like Bauer could use a little something on his hands...
His 1st baseman surely thinks so.....

Great at bat by Yuli. Bases juiced for Marwin.

HAH. I thought that was foul off the bat. I dropped an f-bomb before realizing it'd turn out better than taking the walk.
-
Come on Reddick!
-
With the need for a fly ball, really surprised to not use Gattis here.

Correa looks at a hittable fastball again.

Almost surprised Pettis didn't send him there.

Altuve...infield back...grounds into FC, Springer out 6-4, but can't get two...Kemp scores
Bregman taps back to the mound, Bauer fields it and the throw pulls Lindor off the bag, who tries for the relay, but Bregman beat it out...everyone safe on the second TE1 of the inning
Gurriel...checks his swing to make it 3-2...Eckersley is extremely disappointed...walks, Altuve to 3B, Bregman to 2B
Marwin...3-0...3-1...doubles to LF, Altuve scores, Bregman scores, Gurriel to 3B
Bauer out, Miller in
Reddick...infield in...flies out F7, everybody holds

Headed your way, JG.

That Lindor kid is pretty darn good.

Hey Lance.. mind pitching instead of just throwing?

McCullers takes the pill...Jake into CF
Kipnis flies out F8
Lindor singles to RF
Brantley singles to LF, Lindor to 2B
Ramirez grounds into 6U-3 double play into the shift

The 8th was definitely Correa's.

To the bottom of the 9th...Astros clinging to a 11-2 lead

And Harris promptly issues a 4-pitch walk with a 9-run lead

Ok Will, a lead off walk would be kinda silly here.

Doesn’t really matter. Good teams get the job done no matter who they are playing.

The statement is that the Astros are a very good baseball team.
-

A little of both. The Indians were not the best team in the league, but they still had good starting pitching, and the Astros went out and kicked them in the nuts.
-
I dunno, really. But I do know I'm very happy Bauer got the loss. Fuck Tyler.
Hehe. For all the whining about spin rates, if you give up 11 runs you're not going to win many games.
-
I will be happy if there is no more night shift this season.

The statement is that the Astros are a very good baseball team.
Talent wise, this is the best Astros’ team of all time. But games aren’t played on paper.
-
I will be happy if there is no more night shift this season.
Have to imagine that the Astros - NYY/BOS is going to be a bigger draw than Brewers - LAD/ATL, so likely to get the prime time slots. Of course, if it's the Dodgers, the west coast time zone thingy comes in.
-

Tip of the cap to you, fine sir.

If they're playing Boston or New York in the ALCS they might get prime time. Of course the Brewers will be in the NLCS, and Selig can still throw some weight.
-
but they still had good starting pitching, and the Astros went out and kicked them in the nuts.
Carrasco and Clevenger kept them in the series. But like last year the Astros wore out the starting pitchers and then ate the bullpen.

We had at least one of the games in NY last year in the day. I think the key to night games is the Bravos eliminating LA

Looked right over the plate to me. But coulda been fooled. Either way, can't take a fastball for strike three w/RISP.
HPU’s plate was wiiiiide yesterday.

It's raining sideways in the Hill Country and my dish is doing just fine, in case yall wanted to know.
Hoping the 2nd time through the lineup is better against Clevinger.
It was not in Austin. My buddy and I were watching at Pinthouse Pizza North, and its DirectTV went down 5-6 times during the storm.
-
The pitch to Lindor for the home run was not smart (regardless of outcome) but, otherwise, he pitched fine.
Once fucking again, a pitcher’s job is to protect a lead or tie. When his team scores, he MUST put up a zero. Keuchel threw a “please hit me” BP fastball to a great hitter and allowed a go ahead home run. That is fucking NOT pitching “fine,” and saying “except for the HR, he pitched well,” is totally missing the main purpose of pitching, especially in a tight playoff game. I may be alone, but I will be glad when Keuchel is elsewhere.
-
Great job in the GZ, folks. I read it straight through with my coffee as I often do the morning after a game. I said to my buddy watching with me yesterday I did not care if Correa never got another hit in 2018, he should stay in the lineup for his defense. I am glad my thesis will not be tested; although it was merely piling on, his homer was important.
I will be leaving on a trip 10/13-28 but hope to be able to stay in touch through the GZ. I am bummed about missing the ALCS, but I did not have a November option for this trip as I did last year, and I booked it in January. If you will please get our heroes to the WS, perhaps I can attend a game when I return. I am rooting hard for the Red Sox for several reasons but hope it goes all five games either way.

I was happy when he didn't give up 3 in the first. I'll miss Kuechel for the what he has contributed and I'll wish him well when he's gone. I think he might have peaked in 2015. He is still a pretty good pitcher but has lost his consistency and is prone to having too many bad innings.

I think we all get it. But Keuchel hasn't inspired "throw up zeroes" confidence all season. There's a reason AJ lifted him after 5.
On a related note, McHugh was freaking awesome.

You are correct, but just because he hasn't inspired confidence all year, that doesn't mean it isn't his job/responsibility.
I told my work buddy after the Astros scored to take the lead that I'd be him lunch Keuchel wouldn't hold it. He wouldn't take the bet, and rightly so.

NYC for three days, then cruise NYC to Quebec City, then QC for two days. I am hopeful to be able to watch night baseball along the way. I have At Bat, and cruise ships often provide sports tv.

Jim, we are taking a similar trip 18-28: NYC for a few days, cruise up New England coast to Canada (stops inc Bar Harbor, Boston, Halifax) then back to NYC. Enjoy your trip! I’ll be following the games and game zone and will be sure to get pics in our Astros gear in front of Yankee Stadium and Fenway!

I wonder if Luhnow would sign Kuechel even with a deep hometown discount.

Why would - or should - Keuchel settle for a hometown discount, much less a "deep" one?
edit: Okay, I think you're asking if Luhnow would bite even if Keuchel made the extremely unlikely offer of a discount. I suspect he would, but it's not gonna happen.

Very similar. Mine is Princess one way. Some stops are the same.

I don't think Luhnow would do it even with the discount. He's going to have a logjam soon, and he needs to make some room. Circle of life, and all that.

I doubt Keuchel’s ego has room for a discount.
-
I'm sure Keuchel's contract expectations are sky-high, but what do people mean by "discount" here? As a benchmark, do yall think he'll do better or worse than Arrieta did last offseason?
-
The Astros have already gotten the best of Dallas Keuchel. I would not re-sign him, even at a discount, unless that discount was the league minimum.

Prior to the season, I had really good intel that the team was not planning to sign him unless the FA market was very weak for him. He would start to be an option at 3 or fewer years at a reasonable price tag. That shouldn’t be breaking news, and I assume Keuchel has heard the same message which is why he speaks about free agency, potential end of days with the Astros, etc. in the manner that he does.

You give him the "qualifying offer", which I think is 17M for 1 year, if he takes it that's ok, but when he rejects it the Stros get an extra draft pick after the 1st round.

That seems to be the thinking of several people here, but I'll be shocked if Luhnow doesn't extend him the QO.
