Sounds like he is trying to convince himself.

It always seemed to me like he didn’t feel quite like part of the team in Houston. I don’t know exactly why that was and maybe it’s bullshit, but you know he went from a losing Phillies team to a high-performing Astros team to a losing Blue Jays team and felt comfortable in the bookends. That might be significant.

I think he has issues. Emotional ones.

What, punching yourself in the face is not normal?

Nope. Nor is “Fuck you” to the manager on live TV.

Hinch had a great rebuttal to Giles’ crybaby shit posted last night on At Bat.

Quote
"I didn't know what I was doing there," Giles said. "I'm getting thrown out there like I didn't know what's going on. It keeps me out of the loop a little bit. I wasn't told some information that I needed to know, [and I was] going out there in the dark.

"Other than that, it's a shame. I enjoyed my teammates there and we made a lot of great memories and I'm very blessed to be with those guys and got to learn from those guys. I give them all the love in the world. I'll tell you one thing, I gave everything I had with that team and went to war with that team. ... It's bittersweet the way I had to exit, but overall it's for the best. I'm happy. They're happy. It is what it is."
...
"I'm disappointed he would go down that path given how much work and time and energy and communication our front office, our coaching staff -- we all went through this with him," Hinch said. "I understand there's some disappointment with his tenure with the Astros.

"We gave him every opportunity. We communicated with him effectively. We had an incredible culture. Every single player will tell you it's one of the best cultures they've had and one of the best communication environments they've had. They all know their roles. They all know their situations. To have one person, of all the guys in our clubhouse, to come out and claim otherwise is flat wrong."

That is as riled up as I can ever remember seeing (or reading) AJ.  Even when last year when he complained about bogus strike calls in the 9th inning (the game where Josh got tossed) he tempered his remarks about umpires saying 'these are good men'.

The Giles quote sound like someone who is trying to build a defense, and a weak one at that: "It's their fault".  Unnecessary and immature.  He lost his job in the playoffs last year and it damaged his psyche.  He did not get over it and it bled over into his performance this year.

I do not think Giles is a quitter, and for almost all of this time with the Astros, he faced the media and owned his failures. Bottom line, imo, is he cracked, both professionally and personally, under the pressure of intense baseball situations for a high-achieving team and the crush of the demanding expectations of his performance, both his and the fans. I do not doubt he is more comfortable on a team going nowhere.

This was the kicker, which came after the above quote:  "I wish Ken Giles well, but my advice to him would be to participate in the culture which he's in if he wants the benefits of it."

Giles is Selig spelled backwards.

Still hoping Selig punches himself in the face.
