-
OK...perhaps I've gone about this all wrong...pretty please...which a cherry on top...SCORE SOME FUCKING RUNS!!!
Here comes a 10-9 loss.
-
I wonder what it's like to be able to swing a bat like Cano does.
-
T1:
Haniger...0-2...1-2...grounds out 5-3
Segura flies out F9 on the first pitch
Cano singles to CF
Cruz...0-2...strikes out swinging
No score
-
I wonder what it's like to be able to swing a bat like Cano does.
Effortless.
-
Effortless.
It's like Freddie Couples swinging a golf club.
-
I wonder what it's like to be able to swing a bat like Cano does.
Well let me tell you...
I have no earthly idea.
-
B1:
Springer flies out F8
Altuve strikes out swinging
Bregman...wearing the pants bloused and real stirrups...grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
No score
-
Not a fan of the 0-1 bunt strike.
-
It would be nice to get Bregman going again, too. Seems like the last week has been pretty lackluster.
-

3 for 38, with one double, no HR and 3 RBI.
-
T2:
Span pops out F5
Seager strikes out swinging
Gamel strikes out swinging
No score
-
I wonder what it's like to throw 100 mph like Josh James...
-
Watching James pitch feels like Christmas.
-
3 for 38, with one double, no HR and 3 RBI.
Ouch.
-
I see that Leake is following the league's scouting report: throw it down the middle.
-
I remember reading The Umpire Strikes Back. He told a story of watching Nolan Ryan throw a high fastball that exploded. He waited for the crowd reaction, but nothing. Then the catcher threw the ball back. I think he said it happened again.
So he goes to an eye doc. Both times the ball was coming in more or less directly at his eyes. The speed at which it went from a dot at 60+ feet to a full size baseball inches from his eye was too fast for his eye to adjust so he just saw stars.
-
B2:
Marwin singles to RF
White pops out F4...had a pitch to crush and just missed it
Correa pops out to shallow CF
Gurriel grounds into FC, Marwin out 6-4
No score
-
Ouch.
Hard to notice since there are worse problems in the lineup, but he's in a pretty pronounced slump now.
-
What is it with the Astros' obsession with walking the 8 hitter?
-
What is it with the Astros' obsession with walking the 8 hitter?
Right on cue, Blum makes the same point.
It is maddening.
-
I find it mindboggling that Haniger is hitting only .280. I thought for sure it was closer to .580.
-
T3:
Hermann...3-2...walks
Gordon flies out F8 on the first pitch
Haniger chops to 3B, Bregman charges and tries for the shorthop, in and out of the glove, Hermann to 2B
Segura strikes out swinging
Cano lines out to CF...Kemp barely had to move
No score
-
I find it mindboggling that Haniger is hitting only .280. I thought for sure it was closer to .580.
Yes, I'll be happy to see him leave town.
-
Man I'd love to have one of those zero turn mowers.
-
Man I'd love to have one of those zero turn mowers.
It's not how fast you mow, it's how well you mow fast
-
It's not how fast you mow, it's how well you mow fast
With an attitude.
-
I thought that was going to be a double-play. Instead, it's a double.
-
Kemp!
And McCann has a step limit.
-
Mariners must have watched the D-back's OF.
-
I like 3 run innings.
Just sayin.
-
I am also fond of doubles.
-
Marwin hits the yellow line (I think).
ETA: I was wrong. Off the railing above the line for a home run!
-
THE KING!!!
2-run shibby!
-
Homer!
-
I thought it was a homer off the bat. It is! Long live good King Marwin!!
-
I like 3 run innings.
Just sayin.
Do you like 4 run innings?
-
B3:
McCann...0-2...hit by pitch
Kemp "doubles" to the RF corner, McCann to 3B...Gamel kicks it around down in the corner as McCann stops at 3B for a cigarette. Kemp has to hit the breaks rounding 2B
Springer singles to LCF, McCann scores, Kemp to 3B, Span kicks it and Springer to 2B
Altuve...infield in...chops to 3B, Kemp scores on the 5-3, Springer has to hold at 2B
Bregman...full count...flies out F8 on ball four in the dirt
Marwin doubles off the yellow line on the LCF wall, Springer scores...HR review in progress...HOME RUN! Marwin scores
White...0-2...strikes out swinging
But the Astros put up a crooked number...lead 4-0
-
Do you like 4 run innings?
That'll do.
-
I thought it was a homer off the bat. It is! Long live good King Marwin!!
I thought it cleared live too, but then when they stopped thought it must have hit the yellow line. But it clearly hit the railing. He hit the shit out of that ball.
-
Holy shit, Julia, what are those ear plates?
-
Holy shit, Julia, what are those ear plates?
She's fit.
-
We seem to have an inordinate fear of Denard Span.
-
Anyone know what the magic is to sync up the mlb.tv broadcast with the mlb.com Astros radio broadcast? The closest I can get is like a 3 second (aggravating) delay. Sound behind the video.
-

I just tried it, and it's perfect. You are using the audio overlay on the video, right? Hit the broadcast button and choose KBME 790?
-
Holy shit, Julia, what are those ear plates?
They looked like those old mini compact disks.
-
T4:
Cruz strikes out swinging
Span walks
Seager...0-2...1-2...2-2...lines out to LF
Gamel singles to LF, Span to 2B
Hermann strikes out swinging
4-0 Astros
-
Love James yelling into his glove on that K.
-

Ah, ok. I was over complicating it. Playing the video feed on my computer and the audio on my cell. I’ll try your suggestion.
-
If James can improve his command a bit, he'll be pretty formidable.
-
Drinking Teeling single malt.
-
If James can improve his command a bit, he'll be pretty formidable.
He's generally had that problem all along in the minors.
-
I wish I had a blowjob from Scarlett Johansson every time Correa popped up.
-
I wish I had a blowjob from Scarlett Johansson every time Correa popped up.
I don't think anybody could keep up that pace.
-
B4:
Correa pops out F3 in foul territory
Gurriel grounds out 6-3
McCann...full up...flies out F9
4-0 Astros
-
T5:
Gordon flies out F7 right on the LF line
Haniger pops out F5 about 20 feet from home plate
Segura taps back to the mound
4-0 Astros
-
I know it was just a fly ball, but Springer staying back and extending his arms going to RF is a good sign.
-
B5:
Kemp...full count...takes a meatball right down the center of the plate for strike three...GRRRRR
Springer flies out F9 on the first pitch
Altuve...0-2...grounds out 4-3
4-0 Astros
-
I know it was just a fly ball, but Springer staying back and extending his arms going to RF is a good sign.
Except it was a hanging changeup right down pipe. Would have liked to have seen him crush that ball over the LF wall.
-
Altuve looks lost at the plate. Nothing like Correa but lost nonetheless. I’m just not used to seeing that. He on top of everything.
-
James out for 6? Um, ok. Is he stretched out? He’s been relief for a while now.
-
Nobody seemed too interested in chasing down that ball after it bounced off the bag.
-
James leaves with one out in the 6th and a runner on 2B
Helluva job there, kid.
-
Sipp time?
-
Sipp time?
Three lefties due up
-
James leaves with one out in the 6th and a runner on 2B
Helluva job there, kid.
+1
-
I hate walks (for the other team). But that was a pretty tough take by Seager.
-
Sipp got squeezed with Seager, not he's out, Harris in. Two on, two out...
-
Tony, doing half the job isn't doing the job.
-
I hate walks (for the other team). But that was a pretty tough take by Seager.
At least two of those pitches called balls were strikes.
-
Well, that's not a very difficult "Name that Astro" quiz.
-
Harris has to be pitching for his post-season spot here.
-
T6:
Cano chops to 1B, ball hits the bag and pops right over Yuli's head and dribbles into RF for a double
Cruz...0-2...strikes out swinging
That's it for James, Sipp in
Span flies out F8
Seager...full count...walks...fuck...three of those balls should have been called strikes
That's all for Sipp, Harris in
Healy, pinch hitting for Gamel, lines out to CF
4-0 Astros
-
Harris threw 1 pitch in the zone in that AB.
Glad he got that 1.
-
B6:
Bregman...0-2...grounds out 4-3
Marwin...0-2...flies out F8
White grounds out 4-3
4-0 Astros
-
I'm grateful for the 4 run inning.
But my goodness the ABs have been anemic since then.
-
White has also been quietly scuffling a bit lately, hitting .180 in the last week.
-

Yeah, I had noticed his OBP+ had dropped below 1.000.
-

Just the facts. It's the stretch drive, results now matter.
-
White has also been quietly scuffling a bit lately, hitting .180 in the last week.
I'm not sure how many bright spots there have been in the last week. Maybe Kemp and Marwin. Reddick had been showing signs of life, but of course now he's hurt.
-
T7:
Hermann grounds out 4-3
Gordon taps back to the mound, 1-3
Haniger flies out F8
At the stretch...4-0 Astros
-
It was very helpful that Harris was able to clean up the 6th and take the 7th.
-
That was a much needed inning from Harris.
-
That was a much needed inning from Harris.
I assume Pressly for the 8th and Osuna the 9th
-
Harris has turned it around but I'm not sure I trust him with inherited runners in scoring position just yet.
-
Here comes Scarlett.
-
I assume Pressly for the 8th and Osuna the 9th
Yes. That's what I'd do anyway.
-
Here comes Scarlett.
You'd think I'd be more excited about this.
-
So a fly ball to right.
Is that a lap dance from Rhea Perlman?
-
¡Me gusto los doubles!
-
So a fly ball to right.
Is that a lap dance from Rhea Perlman?
I'm thinking a hand job from Rachael Ray.
-
McCann with an RBI knock! 5-0
-
If he pops it up but it goes out of play does that still count for that blow job deal? Because if it does that hardly seems fair.
But if it does, I want that same deal but with Bregman.
-
Nice job by McCann.
5-0.
-
Looks like McQ for the Astros in the 8th
-
Looks like McQ for the Astros in the 8th
He's the fresh arm.
-
B7:
Correa...0-2...1-2...2-2...flies out F9 in foul territory
Gurriel doubles to RCF
McCann singles to LCF, Gurriel scores
Leake out, Bradford in
Kemp flies out F9
Springer grounds into FC, McCann out 5-4 at 2B
5-0 Astros
-
I wish I had a blowjob from Scarlett Johansson every time Correa popped up.
#MeToo
Sorry ladies... I’ll show myself out.
-
Helluva bid by Springer there.
-
Damn. Had it and the ground knocked it out.
-
That divot he left was impressive.
-
Man, soooo close for Springer. I was worried about his shoulder after that divot he took.
-
He's out.
-
Wow that was some slow baserunning.
-
Man, soooo close for Springer. I was worried about his shoulder after that divot he took.
Marisnick would have had that. From left field.
-
Wow that was some slow baserunning.
You're gonna lose if you chop your steps.
-
Astros continue to be deathly afraid of Denard Span
-
Why does Span strike such fear into Astros pitchers? He's been a walk machine the last couple of days.
-
Astros continue to be deathly afraid of Denard Span
Does he have compromising pictures of the pitching staff?
-
Collin suddenly allergic to strikes.
-
T8:
McHugh in...Marisnick in to CF, Springer to RF
Segura...0-2...1-2...2-2...pops out to shallow RF
Cano doubles to RCF...Springer really laid out and had it in his glove, but it bounced out when he hit the grounds...
Cruz grounds to SS and beats it out for an infield single...Hinch challenging...replay shows he's out...yep, overturned...6-3, Cano to 3B
Span...3-0...takes a pitch almost down the middle for ball four
Seager flies out F7
5-0 Astros
-
What was that, Jose?
-
Why no slide?
-
That was as half-assed an effort as you'll see at this level.
-
I would have called him out just for being a dumbass.
-
That was bizarre.
-
Why no slide?
Is a puzzlement.
-
#MeToo
Sorry ladies... I’ll show myself out.
As a male member of society I realize it is no longer my place to ever say me too. Therefore I have started substituting, myself as well for, me too in all conversation written and spoken.

Dunh dunh... dunh dunh..
-
You take it. No you.
-
Ha!
That was like the 2 cartoon magpies.
You catch it.
No, I couldn't possibly catch it. You catch it.
No no no I insist ....
-
Correa being pinch hit for here...whodathunkit.
-
Dunh dunh... dunh dunh..
ISWYDT
-
Why no slide?
Is it still his knee?
-
Correa being pinch hit for here...whodathunkit.
Scarlett breathes a sigh of relief.
-
Correa being pinch hit for here...whodathunkit.
How the mighty have fallen.
-
At least Denard Span is as afraid of deep pop ups as the Astros are of him.
-
B8:
Rumbelow in for the M's
Altuve...3-0...3-1...3-2...walks
Bregman...3-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch that almost hits him, Altuve thrown out 2-6, half jogging into 2B...throw was WAY off the bag towards 3B, but Segura able to run go get it, and run back to the bag and tag out the non-sliding Altuve...HInch challenging..,overturned, and it's a stolen base for Altuve. But it wasn't pretty.
Marwin walks
White flies to deep LCF...Span and Gordon converge, and it's the old "I got it, you take it" as it drops between them...scored a double...Altuve scores, Marwin to 3B
Tucker, pinch hitting for Correa, grounds out 4-3 on the first pitch, Marwin scores, White to 3B
Gurriel strikes out swinging
But the Astros take a 7-0 lead to the 9th
-
Is it still his knee?
I think it was brain discomfort.
-
Tucker's ground out was on the second pitch. He swung wildly at a pitch about two millimeters off the ground for strike one.
-
Vogelbach his a fireplug. A large fireplug.
-
Tucker's ground out was on the second pitch. He swung wildly at a pitch about two millimeters off the ground for strike one.
Must have blocked that out.
-
Tucker's ground out was on the second pitch. He swung wildly at a pitch about two millimeters off the ground for strike one.
And yet he still managed to get his patented grounder to the right side.
-
T9:
Devo in...lots of defensive substitutions...Tucker stays in to play LF, Marwin to SS, Davis in for Bregman, and Straw in to RF
Healy lines out to 2B
Hermann singles to RF
Vogelbach, pinch hitting for Gordon, grounds out 3-1, Hermann to 2B
Negron, pinch hitting for Haniger, strikes out swinging
Astros win!! 7-0 is your final
-
The Pilots are eliminated.
-
Subdued strut from Devo, but he seals the deal.
-
Subdued strut from Devo, but he seals the deal.
Good to see him with a scoreless inning, and a couple of weeak swings.
-
No score in the 4th in Oakland.
-
And yet he still managed to get his patented grounder to the right side.
The good news is that this time he got Marvin in from 3rd.
-
The Angels scored a run but have this far given up 4 in the 4th.
Astros division lead will likely stay where it was before tonight's action.
-
Angels with a six run inning (so far) to lead 7-4 t6.
All sorts of weirdness this inning including an assist from an enormous lesbian in the Oakland version of Jackass Cove. She was ejected but her partner is still sitting there.
-
Much more weirdness including an rbi triple from the guy who hit the grand slam earlier. Nfi what his name is. He hit the triple to Laureano who often throws out guys when he's in the concourse somewhere.
I haven't seen the lesbians in a while.
Anyway, 9-4, b8.
-
A's lose 9-7. Astros up 5 games with 11 to play.

The late game's result was a nice surprise this morning.
Thanks for keeping up with things.
-
Did not see any of the game last night, and I really enjoy reading the GZ straight through with morning coffee.
Every game I expect Correa to bust out of this horrible slump. Maybe I will have to wait for ST. As y’all pointed out, Bregman has not been much better lately. Could be the BBGs did not appreciate his look at me strutting.
-
Just the facts. It's the stretch drive, results now matter.
This is an important point, I think. Stats about past performance do not matter. All that matters is THIS game and now. When a hitter fails in a key AB in a winnable game, I get no consolation from someone’s telling me what his BA or the cursed OPS is. This is magnified in a pennant race or the postseason.
-
Was it just me, or was Devo falling more to the 1b side than usual on his delivery?

This is exactly why Gattis with 24 or 25 HR and 74 rbi can barely get an AB right now.
I don't know whether this grind is wearing them down or getting them sharp. But it is fun to grip the rail and watch.

Every game is like a postseason game and is infinitely more exciting than a runaway division win. I know I was on a very small stage, and perhaps my experience is not relevant to you, but for me there was nothing better than coaching a playoff game. Mark could share a player’s perspective on what it was like for him. His team won five pressure-packed games against the state’s best to reach the UIL State Tournament. All that matters is this inning and this AB and this coaching decision today.

I didn't think so, but it's hard to tell as it is normally so pronounced anyway. I didn't think he looked any better last night. He got his change over and one of those lefties just watched a few, but it didn't seem COD like.
-

He didn't get his tits ripped. So that's a nice positive. I didn't notice anything different in his delivery either, but wasn't really looking for it either.

Finally saw the highlight. I assume the fans were pissed something fierce as that was catchable by the RF.

They boo'ed the replay. You'd be surprised what a racket seven hundred people can make when they really get their dander up.
But had they given the A's the out that would have been tremendously unfair because had Piscotty caught the ball, the runner on third most likely would have tagged.
So it was a fucked up situation all around.

On spectator interference, you rule is to nullify the interference. That means awarding outs that would have been made, and placing runners where they would likely have ended up. They certainly could have, and likely would have, allowed the runner at 3B to score, and possibly the runner at 2B to move to 3B.
-
I had never really considered the possible outcome of an out mentioned by Chuck or the out and run mentioned by HH. I just assumed (wrongly of course) that if your own fans are stupid fuckers and prevent you from catching the out, then you pay. That's why I figured the fans would be pissed. You know, the Bartman scenario.
-
Funny thing is, one of them had a glove and the other one didn't. The one without the glove was sitting next to the railing, which, in retrospect, seems like a lapse in judgement or at the very least a lack of foresight.
Reminiscent of Springer's attempt, she had the ball in her glove but in the end couldn't make the play. The ball trickled out of her glove and fell pathetically onto the dirt as Piscotty stood there channeling Alou.
-

The Bartman Play wasn’t interference as Alou was reaching over the railing. He would have caught the ball, but it was not in the field of play. In that case, the fielder reaches into the stands at his own risk. It wasn’t a “your fan” kind of thing.
