Astros go meekly in the first:
Springer strikes out
Bregman strikes out
Altuve strikes out
No score after one.
-
Damn batter's eye.
-
"Strike" 3 to Altuve was an inch off the plate.
And he never swung the bat. Which in his case may be taken as 'at least he wasn't hacking.'
Or he's in a slump.
-
I like Framber.

He went 2 for 4 yesterday, didn’t strike out.
-
He went 2 for 4 yesterday, didn’t strike out.
Hell of a slump.
-
To Preston's point, maybe Correa should give up taking hittable pitches.
-

please adjust sarc meters
-
Five batters in the Astros make contact. Baby steps.
-
To Preston's point, maybe Correa should give up taking hittable pitches.
He’s a deer in the headlights. Looks terrified up there.
-
I am so tired of every hitter taking meatballs right down the middle.
-
He’s a deer in the headlights. Looks terrified up there.
He ain't right.
My guess would be his back won't let him unleash.
I also wonder if he picks up the rotation of the ball way late.
-
This team strikes out a ton because they refuse to swing at hittable pitches and flail at garbage. That’s the book. Why are they the only team in the league to not see this?
-
He ain't right.

Then he needs to be on the DL.
-
The offensive offslaught continues. AKA: "The Devauntening"
-
Then he needs to be on the DL.
If that's the case, then I agree 100%.
I'm convinced we're not going to see the real Correa until next spring.
-

I'm convinced we're not going to see the real Correa until next spring.
Perhaps not. But they can’t win with this Correa hitting cleanup.
-
Somebody please reintroduce Framber to the strike zone.
-
Damn it, throw strikes!
-
This team strikes out a ton because they refuse to swing at hittable pitches and flail at garbage. That’s the book.
Why some of these guys are ever thrown strikes escapes me.
-
It's going to be another 5-inning night for Valdez. At best. Good job on the DP, though.
-
Hey Angels, that's OUR play!!
-
It's going to be another 5-inning night for Valdez. At best. Good job on the DP, though.
5 is all they're asking from him.
-
It's going to be another 5-inning night for Valdez. At best. Good job on the DP, though.
I doubt they were expecting anything more than that.
Just as I wasn't expecting Josh to swing at the first pitch meatball.
-
Jesu Cristo.
Machete tambien.
-
Where exactly do you want your fastball, Maldonado?
-
Ok, so you wanted it a little higher in the zone.
-
Nice, nice job of battling in that AB by Springer.
-
Bregman has become a pop up factory.
-
Barria is starting to throw some very hittable pitches.
-
If Bregman is heading into a funk, we are truly fucked.
-
Time to capitalize.
-
Strike 1 to Altuve also not a strike.
-
Strike 1 to Altuve also not a strike.
So ready for Robo-ump.
-
Bregman has become a pop up factory.
No kidding. Frustrating as hell.
He threw a fat first pitch slider to Springer too.
-
So AJ got tossed.
-
Hinch tossed
-
Robo umps would have kept their cool.
-
Nice frame there by Framber.
-
Hinch tossed
I wonder if Jose was chirping and Hinch ran interference.
-
Hinch: I'd like to inquire as to the methodology you employed to secure your current employment as a Major League umpire. My curiosity stems from the obvious reality that you are very bad at umpiring.
Umpire: That hurts my feelings.
Hinch: Understandable, nevertheless the question remains. Were sexual or monetary favors involved?
Umpire: Now I feel very bad and you have to go away.
Or something like that.
-
I wonder if Jose was chirping and Hinch ran interference.
Jose told Cooper his belt didn’t match his shoes.
-
Ejecting AJ was a chicken shit maneuver .
-
And there it is.
FUCK THAT UMP.
Stares down Altuve after he makes the strike call then walks out on the field barking after Altuve.
What a bush league move.
-
I like Framber.
He reminds me a little bit of Wandy

Aka, the ump show

Where's Mark?
I think we need his brand of eloquent profanity to describe the shenanigans leading up to that ejection.
-
Marwin, we really don't have the depth to handle a player ejection.
-
Marwin begging to be ejected.
Sitting on the top step, home plate side barking.
-
This is one of the most unprofessional displays of a MLB home plate umpire I ever seen.

Donaldson is headed to the tribe

Yuli...1 for his last 16.
-
Donaldson is headed to the tribe
Interesting. Will Baez move to 2B?
-
Yuli...1 for his last 16.
That's just about the same average as Correa.
-
That's just about the same average as Correa.
In the month of August, Springer, Altuve, Correa, and Gurriel have combined for five home runs.
-
My apologies, I was making dinner and missed the the nonsense.
Just rewound the DVR to review everything that I missed, and Jesus Christ, Cooper's strike zone has been horrendous all night, and his fat ass chest puffing is pretty much vintage Joe West, which is not a compliment.
I suspect AJ wasn't leaving until he got tossed, and good for him. If this butt plug is going to make himself the show, get the fans really on him.
-
Well, Framber ain’t been the problem tonight.
-
Well, Framber ain’t been the problem tonight.
I think he’s good for another inning.
-
Josh was ready for that one. Just missed it.
-
I think he’s good for another inning.
Nah, top of the order due up...third time through....do t imagine he will.
-
Harmless fly ball after harmless fly ball.
-
Shows what I know.
-
Framber for at least 1 more batter.
-
The damn batter's eye.
-
Pitches 1 and 3 have been strikes at various times tonight.
-
Framber for at least 1 more batter.
Who he walks on four pitches.
Valdez out.
-
Who he walks on four pitches.
Valdez out.
So technically you were right. Framber leaves after 5 IP.
-
Fuck this umpire and his morphing nebulous zone.
-
Who he walks on four pitches.
Valdez out.
Who then goes to 2B before the next pitch.
-
Well that was unfortunate.
-
God damn it, we're going to give this one away too.
-
God damn it, we're going to give this one away too.
That's exactly what's transpiring.
-
Walk, TE1, single...Angels with runners on the corners, nobody out for Trout...
-
Great.
1st and 3rd, no out, and Trout at the plate.
-
1-0 Angels
-
1-0 Angels
Insurmountable.
-
Insurmountable.
It is when your 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 hittters are in a huge funk.
-
Fuck. 3-0 Angels
-
McHugh asks himself "What would Will Harris do?"
Yep, lets hang a slider.
-
Fucking shit. This is very depressing. And I"m tired of Simmons bending us over. They can walk him for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned.
-
I have no fucking clue what’s a strike tonight.
-
Fucking embarrassing.
-
Fucking shit. This is very depressing. And I"m tired of Simmons bending us over. They can walk him for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned.
I wish we had a slick fielding shortstop that can also hit.
-
I have no fucking clue what’s a strike tonight.
If he stares down the batter, it's a strike.
-
Eleven outs left.
-
The replay of Altuve's second AB makes it clear he was gonna call a strike and stick his chest out no matter what.
Unprofessional to the nth degree.
-
Fuck. The Astros’ refusal to swing is mind boggling.
-
Fuck. The Astros’ refusal to swing is mind boggling.
It's because the other guys are throwing strikes. We'll start swinging when they start missing the zone.
-
Fuck. The Astros’ refusal to swing is mind boggling.
I'm not a headhunter when it comes to coaching staffs, so don't think I'm trying to get the hitting coach fired.
But...
Doesn't some of this fall at his feet, if nothing else than there's a mess and it needs to be fixed?
Maybe the gameplan comes from the analytics folks, but good grief the 1st time through the lineup it was first pitch meatball after 1st pitch meatball. Later in the counts weak contact for fly balls.
And God forbid there's a runner on 1st with less than 2 outs.
-
These are the kind of games that make me feel like a sap for sticking them out to the bitter end when almost any alternative option would be more pleasurable.
-
McHugh strikes out the side.
An inning too late.
-
The fans in the stands are so bummed out they can only muster a half-hearted "Let's go Astros" chant.
-
There we go, that GIDP is what we needed to make the evening complete.
-
No help from the Sea Hags tonight: Leake shelled for 5 in the 1st inning.
-
Cam Maybin is who he is.
-
Kemp with a double.
2nd/3rd, no out for the top of the order.
-
George took a hack at a good pitch to hit on the first pitch, and the HPU fucks him on a strike 2 call off the plate on the second pitch.

And Springer is tardy on a belt high fastball for the punchout.
-
Juiced, 1 out for Altuve.
-
Not to be a pessimist, but I’d prefer that Alex not set the DP table right now.

One hundo from the Butto.

Altuve is fucking lost right now. Jesus that was pathetic.

Not to worry.
-
There is no way Correa is doing anything with this heat.
-
How utterly predictable.
-
How utterly predictable.
Two spinning sliders for strikes.
-
Altuve’s take/swing decision mechanism is malfunctioning.

-
If Correa doesn’t want to swing the bat, he needs to be dropped in the order or given some time to clear his head. It’s like he’s going up there with the mindset of only swinging when absolutely necessary.
-
Two spinning sliders for strikes.
The Astros hitting philosophy is very messed up right now. Take get me over strike one to swing at crap out of the zone on pitch two.
-
Anger.
Much anger.
-
Second and third and nobody out with the top of the order up.
Didn't even scratch one fucking run.
No meat in this order, straight tofu.
-

Blum made the point the the top of the order needed to step up when it was 2nd and 3rd and no out. They didn't.
-
Correa needs to go back on the DL. He’s s fucking anchor right now.
-

2 strikeouts and a popup in foul territory, well short of 1B.
Pathetic.

Anger.
Much anger.
I haven't progressed to anger yet, still stuck in shock/denial...
-
And the Angels are about to tack on more runs.
So there's that.
-
Was Correa’s popup a strike or ball four?
-
Correa needs to go back on the DL. He’s s fucking anchor right now.
It’s like he doesn’t want to hit. His first at bat tonight he drew a walk without swinging at any of the eight pitches.
-
Was Correa’s popup a strike or ball four?
According to Game cast it was a fastball right down the middle
Yep, jut saw the replay. It was a cookie right down the pipe.
-
According to Game cast it was a fastball right down the middle
Top/inside of the middle rectangle on the strike zone thing.
97 mph.
-
Hey, the Angels put a ball in play with the bases loaded. No fair.
-

He acts like a lot of things hurt.
Noticed it when they threw to second and he dove back in the early innings.
-
Cam Maybin is who he is.
Nope.
-

His back still bothering him would certainly explain him being so passive at the plate. But if that’s the case, he needs to go back on the DL.

HH and I will add your name to our petition.

Time to shit or get off the pot.
-
Altuve last two games 7 Ks
Can’t wait for outlawscotty to tell me how pure that is.

Its pure something.
-
Its pure something.
To be fair he has had 9 hits in two games before. Sample size being what it is and all.
-
I don't know why I hoped for anything different.
-
Cooper is fucking terrible behind the plate. Amazingly inconsistent.
-
To be fair he has had 9 hits in two games before. Sample size being what it is and all.
Which matters not at fucking all tonight or last night.
I fucking cannot stand the “but he is hitting .326” shit. What did he do with the bases loaded and one out tonight?
Stuff that “to be fair” shit.
-
This ump is consistent in that he is calling a shitty zone.
Yuli swings at ball 5 and gets on anyway.
-
Josh watches 92 mph down the middle for a strike and waves at a splitter off the plate.

Okay... Just don't let it stress you out too much, Jim. Or as you have often told me, chill.
-
Absolutely pathetic 2 games to a bad baseball team that had dropped 7 of 8 coming in to the series.
-
How many times has this team been shut out this season?
-
The Angels lost 7 of 8 coming into this series.
In 18 innings the Astros have scored 2 runs.
-

11, according to this site, unlikely to include tonight's game.
https://www.statspros.com/mlb-team-shutouts/ (https://www.statspros.com/mlb-team-shutouts/)
PS: Were the BB to Bregman in the 8th and White in the 9th "effectively" intentional?
No one else is much of a threat right now.
-

If you mean unintentional intentional, White definitely not (leadoff), Bregman maybe.

There lineup has some hitters with Upton back, but those pitchers? Shut out in 17 of 18 innings? I was hoping we would pick up Ruth and Gehrig at the deadline. Altuve and Correa are helpless, and Yuli is not much better. That is a lot of offense to be missing.

Plenty of opportunity for Tucker 's bat....
-

Yep, I was having trouble describing it.
-
Bregman, Altuve, and Gurriel need to snap out of it in a hurry. They will need to shoulder the run producing burden (not just hits, RUNS).
And as Kalas pointed out, if the Astros didn't have another gidp the rest of the season they'd likely still lead the majors.
-
Plenty of opportunity for Tucker 's bat....
What bat? AAA?
-
What bat? AAA?
If the vets are not producing, why not let some rookies have a chance?
Rookie pitchers are getting their chance: Valdez started for the 2nd time last night and James is going to debut tonight.

Why not see if some of Tucker's AAA hot bat and confidence can carry over some as several Astros regulars struggle.
After (almost) two SO in a row vs the Angels, what do we have to lose?
-
If you mean unintentional intentional, White definitely not (leadoff), Bregman maybe.
I saw White's BB (not pitching aggressively to him) as possible SO protection sense he spoiled one the previous night.
-
Yep, I was having trouble describing it.
Pitching around Bregman because they do not fear Altuve. Wow.
-
His back still bothering him would certainly explain him being so passive at the plate. But if that’s the case, he needs to go back on the DL.
With all hitters that go through these ruts, there's always an element of being a little stiff in your actions. He's putting in a lot of work trying to get his timing and rhythm back. He's not going to come out of the lineup. I'm not going to move him. Hinch on Correa.

Another game. I think he has showed he is not ready. This is not LL. We’ll see.

Come on, man. Teams do not care about this.

Pitching around Bregman because they do not fear Altuve. Wow.
Altuve - 6 for 25 in last 6 games (.240) & 3 for 17 in last 4 (.176) - 9 K's in last 4 games
Bregman - 8 for 21 in last 6 (.381) & 5 for 14 in last 4 (.357) - 2 K's in last 4 games

Altuve is un-Altuve lately. Looking forward to his return - hopefully, today.
(Added later) White - 4 & 7 for 24 (.292) in last 6 games & 5 for 15 (.333) in last 4 games - only 1 K in last 6 games
-
Come on, man. Teams do not care about this.
I remember following lowly Astros teams that would celebrate a SO of the reigning WS champion.
