Correa seems like an almost automatic sac fly
-
Correa seems like an almost automatic sac fly
At this point, I'm just glad he didn't strike out looking.
-
T1:
I tuned in late, but there was one single, Keuchel pitched out of it
B1:
Springer singles to center
Bregman singles on a bunt, both runners advance on Chapman throwing error
Altuve singles scoring Springer. Bregman had to hold up to make sure it wasn't caught.. he moves to third
Correa sac fly, scoring Bregman
Passed ball gets Altuve to 2nd.
White walks, runners on 1st and 2nd, one out.
Yuli runs the count full... and a 6-4-3 double play
Astros up 2-0
-
goddamngidps.
-
Chapman singled in the first for the As.
-
T2:
Piscotty flys out to shallow center
Olson strikes out looking. Olson upset with the call. Looks like we got the benefit of the call on strike 2 and 3.
Pinder infield single on a soft chopper to Bregman
Laureano.. 3-1 count.. and ball 4. runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 out
Phegley 2-2 count... swinging strike, 2 left on

B2:
(forgot to mention, Trevor Cahill pitching for the A's)
Reddick... 0-2 count... ground out to 1st
Stassi.. 3-1 count.. ball 4. Stassi to 1st.
Kemp.. 1-2 count.. fly ball to deep center, Laureano with a great over the shoulder catch. Stassi gets back to 1st.
Springer grounds out to 3rd.
Astros 2-0
-
God Fucking Damnit, I am so fucking tired of the A's getting every fucking break in every fucking game.
-
That ball clearly hit the runner's foot. Did Hinch not challenge it?
-
That ball clearly hit the runner's foot. Did Hinch not challenge it?
You can't... Because for some fucking stupid reason you can't challenge if a ball hit a runner despite that being a very easy thing to see/review.
The review rules are fucking idiotic.
-
Good ol' Keuchel. Gagging it up.
-

What the fuck.
-
T3:
Semien ground ball to the right side, against the shift, base hit.
Chapman with another hit to the right side, Semien to 3rd. 1st and 3rd, no outs.
Replay shows ball may have grazed Semien, but no review (apparently not reviewable)
Lowrie a base hit to LF. Kemp with a dive and a tumble almost came up with it. Semien scores, 1st and 3d again, no outs.
Davis pops up to Altuve. big out.
Piss-ant Piscotty kills the Astros again with a double, scoring both runs. A's take the lead 3-2.
Olson hits a line shot to Altuve. 2 down.
Pinder grounds out to 3rd, but damage done.
A's 3-2
-
Dammit.
Come on bats. Get em back.
-
Shiftfuck.
-
Bad luck inning
-
What a shitty AB.
-
Fucking christ, Altuve. What a shit at bat.
-
Fucking christ, Altuve. What a shit at bat.
Correa not to be outdone!
-
B3:
Bregman.. 3-0 count.. 3-1.. ball 4, lead off walk for Alex
Altuve.. swings at a ball near his head for strike one... takes a fat one down the middle for strike 2.. 1-2.. flails at strike 3. terrible at bat
Correa pops up to Olson. 2 down
White.. 1-2 count.. strikes out looking on a fastball
3-2 A's
-
SWING THE FUCKING BAT!!!
-
Correa not to be outdone!
Way to reward Bregman for working a leadoff walk, boys!
3-4-5 shit all over themselves.
-
Lead off walk, 3-4-5 up
Holy crap. Pathetic effort.
-
Let this guy off the hook with that gidp in the first.
Now taking turns having shittier and shittier ABs.
-

clearly it's the batting eye.
-
Keuchel is fucking infuriating.
-
Laureano has made it his mission to make the Astros regret cutting him loose.
-
Laureano has made it his mission to make the Astros regret cutting him loose.
Not a big challenge when the guy you're facing throws you three pitches you'd need a fucking broom to hit then a meatball.

Altuve’s was world class crap.
-
Altuve’s was world class crap.
I won't even argue with you on that one.
-
T4: (got ahead of myself, apparently.. top 4 it was)
Laureano.. 3-1 count.. drives one to left center, lead off double. Great, Keuchel.
Phegley flies out to right on a productive out.. Laureano to 3rd, one out.
Semien ground out to 3rd. Bregman had thoughts of tagging Laureano out, but takes the out at 1st. Runner stays put. big out
Chapman.. 1-2 count.. gets him on a fastball.
Still 3-2 A's
-
I won't even argue with you on that one.
How could you?
-
How could you?
If I was insane, I suppose.
-
That MLB Game Day graphic of that Altuve at-bat should be taped on his locker.
-
That MLB Game Day graphic of that Altuve at-bat should be taped on his locker.
The red dots mean WHAT?!
-
Springer ties it up with a single. Bregman up with the bases loaded, 1 out.
-
Bregman walks and Stassi scores.
-
Why was there no appeal on the 2-2 to Bregman?
-
So much for all the breaks going the A's way.
-
Bregman got very lucky on "ball" 3
-
Bregman got very lucky on "ball" 3
I thought it was a strike live. MD Anderson said just off the plate.
-
For fuck's sake, Altuve. That was a fucking meatball.
-
Jesus, Jose.
-
Why was there no appeal on the 2-2 to Bregman?
Not close to a swing
-
B4: (back on track)
Yuli with a lead off walk. Let's make this one count, please.
Reddick.. 2-2 count.. ground out 4-6, Reddick to 1st.
Stassi up the middle for a base hit. Reddick holds at 2nd (wise idea with Laureano throwing)
Kemp.. 0-2 count.. 1-2.. 2-2.. runs it full.. 3-2.. ball 4. great PA by Kemp. bases loaded, 1out for George
George, ground ball base hit to the left side. run scores. all tied up! bases still loaded, 1 out for Bregman!
Bregman.. 1-2 count.. 2-2.. 3-2 on a CLOSE pitch.. BALL FOUR, Stassi scores, RBI for Bregman. Astros regain the lead, 4-3!
Cahill out.. in comes Shawn Kelley.
Altuve.. 2-2 count.. strikes out swinging. for fuck's sake, Altuve. 2 down, bases still loaded.
Correa 0-2 count.. ground out to short, 6-4. Two stars fuck up again.
BUT..
The Astros lead 4-3.
-
Altuve is the worst great player I have ever seen.
-
Can someone please fucking explain to me why Correa refuses to swing at first pitch meat?
-
The gamblers got Altuve.
-
Can someone please fucking explain to me why Correa refuses to swing at first pitch meat?
He's a thinking man's hitter.
-

-
T5:
Lowrie grounds out to Altuve 4-3.
Davis.. 2-2 count.. strikes out swinging
Piscotty with a ground out to Keuchel on a nice play, 1-3
Astros up 4-3.
-
I have kitchen duty and dinner. Someone else will have to do PBP.
-
I only have Game Day so I can't tell, but is Dull really that sharp?
-

Throwing strikes.
-
Bottom 6
Springer with a two out, four pitch walk.
Alex grounds out.
4-3 Astros after 6
-
I only have Game Day so I can't tell, but is Dull really that sharp?
He makes a point of honing in on the zone.
-
Peacock in for the 7th.

Fuck

WTF Peacock!!!
-
Peacock in for the 7th.
What a shitshow of an inning for Peacock.
I can't believe Hinch left him out there that long. He clearly had no idea where most of his pitches were going today.

was anyone warm then?
In this type of game, after watching the first walk, somebody would have been up and getting hot after the first walk

Not sure what Hinch is thinking! Updates on phone but 3 walks and you leave him in. No excuse

His patience got the better of him.

Great job from sipp

Sipp was warm. I remember thinking that it was a sort of odd choice to bring Sipp in to face Davis which is what I expected would happen since I assumed Peacock would be removed after the second walk.
-
I would have sent Keuchel out to at least start the 7th. He only had 90 pitches.
-
Nice job by Smith and Sipp. But how many giftwrapped runs are we going to give the A’s this series?
-
B7: (I'm back)
Lou Trivino pitching. 4-4 game
Altuve.. 0-2 count.. 1-2.. 2-2.. 3-2 on a very wild one.. strikes out swinging on a fastball down the middle. Not a good day for Jose.
Correa 0-2 count again.. 1-2.. 2-2.. strikes out swinging.
White 0-2 yet again.. 1-2.. base hit on a line drive to CF.
Yuli 3-0.. ball 4. White to 2nd, Yuli to 1st. 2 down.
Reddick.. 1st pitch gets away on a wild pitch, runners advance.. Josh intentionally walked
Marwin will pinch hit for Stassi with the bases loaded, 2 outs... count is 0-2 on a pitch off the plate.. hard hit ball right to 2nd. Marwin out 4-3.
Tied 4-4
-
I hope Marwin doesn't pull anything busting his ass down the line to first.
-
sigh!
-
I hope Marwin doesn't pull anything busting his ass down the line to first.
Wegner bent Marwin over in that at bat.
Strike 2 was 2 inches off the plate, and wasn't a strike until about an inning ago.
-
Nice job by Smith and Sipp. But how many giftwrapped runs are we going to give the A’s this series?
How many are they going to need to win by one? Right now that looks like 5.
-
T8:
Smith still pitching
Laureano.. 1-2 count.. strikes out swinging
Phegley grounds out 4-3 on a nice diving play by Altuve and a good scoop by Yuli.
Semien flies out to right.
Still 4-4
-
Stupid gidp keeps a run off the board
-
What in the fuck is Altuve doing!?
-
Crud!
-
B8:
Fernando Rodney in to pitch
Kemp.. 3-1 count.. 3-2.. BALL FOUR! Lead off walk for Kemp!
Springer 4-6-3 double play. ho hum.
Bregman show's them how it's done. Doubles down the left field line. Altuve with a chance to redeem himself.
Altuve 2-1 count on a swing on a pitch not close to the strike zone.. 2-2.. strikes out looking on a pitch on the outside corner, down. Altuve fails to redeem himself.
4-4
-
What in the fuck is Altuve doing!?
He's going for the consecutive strikeout record.
-
What in the fuck is Altuve doing!?
Ensberging ain’t easy

4 Ks
Wow
3 of those times with Rist
Make that 2 times, but still terrible ABs
-
4 Ks
Wow
That's a first for him.
-
Thank Christ Blum is back next series. Stanton talks more than Eschenfelder stops and starts mid-sentence.
-
T9:
Osuna in to pitch
Chapman.. 1-2 count.. struck him out on the high fastball.
Lowrie hard hit ball off Yuli and down the RF line.. Lowrie in to 2nd with a double.
Davis.. 0-2 count.. 1-2.. 2-2.. swinging strikeout, 2 down
Piscotty.. oh no.. 0-2 count.. struck him out! Way to go Osuna!
Still 4-4 heading to the bottom of the 9th.
-
Not sure what Hinch is thinking! Updates on phone but 3 walks and you leave him in. No excuse
Hey Man! How you doing?
-
Osuna looked pretty fucking good in that inning.
-
Thank Christ Blum is back next series. Stanton talks more than Eschenfelder stops and starts mid-sentence.
There's also been a Bart Ennis sighting this series, too.
-
I don't do Stanton. I'm listening to the radio guys.
Hearing Kalas with anyone else really sort of sharpens how good Blum is.
-
Correa pops up again
-
Can't buy a go-ahead hit in the late innings.
-
Stanton has said "what I mean by that," half a dozen times. Makes me think he has never sat in a room and critically listened to a recording of himself.
-

Stanton just makes stuff up as he goes along.

White walk off!
-

B9:

Correa weakly pops up to 1st in foul ground
White.. 0-2 count.. HR!!!!!!!!!! GREAT WHITE! Astros win!

I stand happily corrected.
-
El Gran Tiburon Blanco!!!!!

Just got enough.

Somewhere Biggio is slightly smirking listening to Tyler White's postgame interview.
-
Also... Bart Ennis... Woof.
-
Tony Kemp and Tyler White have made themselves important cogs in the machine.
-
Stanton just makes stuff up as he goes along.
I'll take your word for it.
-
Funny story, attended fan fest this year and Tyler White was the only player we got to take a picture with. Wife says who's this nobody we waited in line to get a pic with. Glad she is so now very very wrong.
-

Yup. Everybody contributes.

I'll take your word for it.
I prefer your approach of not even listening.
-
Also... Bart Ennis... Woof.
How about the hard guys? You like hitting the guys who throw the hard stuff? Is that what you like?
-
The walk-off group stare was pretty epic.
-
Just got enough.
Whew!
From MLB's director or research and development, Daren Willman:
Tyler White's walk off HR was hit 96 MPH at a 44 degree launch angle... Hit probability 1%. Similar batted balls were HRs 0% of the time.

So who's NOT in favor of the Crawford Boxes right now?
Familia, I guess. All of Oakland.

3-4 rows deep
Correa’s in WS Gme 5 must have been negative numbers.
-
White said in post game that was the first walk off HR he's ever had, even all the way back to Little League.

For what it's worth, he did hit one on Friday too.

Sweet Jesus, watching the highlight reel, the A's announcers proclaimed that Bregman's 2-2 take was "right down the middle". It was 50/50, but it definitely on/off the corner, nowhere near the middle of the plate.

Good example of watching a game with the heart. That pitch either was or was not a strike on the outside black.

I'm on the local library board, and the Astros sponsor bookmobiles to neighborhoods. At the board meeting they reported that White had shown up with a bookmobile, read the kids a story, talked to every kid who showed up, and stayed way over time. Sounds like an authentically good guy.

Wonder what the probability would be...
.... for a 33rd round draft pick to be batting 5th in a key game during the stretch run for the former WS champion team, would it be less than 1%?
.... that that player would hit his 1st walk off HR (ever) in baseball in a key win over Oakland, giving the Astros needed breathing room!!! (It there a probability lower than zero?)
What a wonderful story - for White, and for the organization!
